Mulberry: Where the Wild Things Are

Ahhhhh! Children's Books and Fairytales! Mulberry has channeled inspiration from the popular children's book written by Maurice Sendak, "Where the Wild Things Are" for their 2012 Fall ad campaign.

Model Lindsey Wixson and photographer Tim Walker, worked their magic in the Blackheath Forest in Surrey, England. I'm very impressed. I loved Mulberry's candy-themed 2012 Summer/Spring campaign earlier this year. I seem to love their ad campaigns more than their clothes. Oops! I wasn't suppose to say that. Bad Fashionista! But it's the truth! I can handle the truth! HaHaHa

Shhh! I have a confession you guys. I've never read 'Where the Wild Things Are' or even seen the movie when it came out several years ago. HaHaHa! For some reason those monsters always frightened me, but I heard it was an excellent story. I guess if I can handle the Grimm Fairytale, Hansel and Gretel, surely this should be a piece of cake. LOL

Were there any fairytales that scared you or made you cry?
I still can't watch Bambi or Dumbo! LOL

  1. These are amazing pictures! I would love to cuddle up with the monster! I haven read or watched the movie too.

The only cartoon I cried was Lion King. Over and over again the part where Simba's dad died.

*I named my cat now deceased cat Simba.

  2. That is a very adorable campaign! I definitely do like Mulberry accessories, though. Sometimes I also like the clothes, especially more classic pieces.

  6. Haha! I don't think I was too frightened by any fairy tales... I was scared of the witch in Ariel though! These are beautiful photos!

  7. I adore how they interpret and turn the children book into fashion scene. The monster is too cute for word, looks like giant hairball..lol.

  10. Very cute but a bit strange! Love the clothes but the images make me giggle more than they make me look at the clothes! Still a fun idea though.

  12. I love Where the Wild Things Are and Mulberry bags! I love all of the orange in these looks and those fun wedges in each of the featured outfits.

I had a tough time with Bambi and Dumbo too, but E.T. was the one that really scared me as a kid!

  13. Oh, I know what you mean. There are def. some ad campaigns that look more beautiful than the clothes in the ad. But I do like that orange dress. I can't think of any fairytales that made me cry, unless you count The Lion King...gets me every time.

  17. This is a delightful campaign. I'm such a fan of Tim Walker's work that he rarely does wrong in my book. I liked this book as a kid. It's nowhere as scary as those Grimm fairytales! This shoot does a fantastic job of channeling the spirit of the books.

Kim, I just saw this Olympic themed editorial and totally thought of you since I know you've been eagerly anticipating the Olympics - http://www.fashionmodeldirectory.com/editorials/4758-olympia/

    Happy Wednesday!

  21. What a cool campaign! Those monsters look way too cuddly to be scary.

I read Where the Wild Things Are as a kid & loved it. I don't remember being scared by it - I don't even really remember the story very well. Although I didn't see the movie either because I didn't really want it to ruin what little memories I do have of it.

The only things that really scared me as a kid were movies & stuff that I wasn't supposed to see. Ya know, like when I was at my best friend's house in 3rd grade & her older brother was watching Chucky...yeah, I had nightmares for daysssss. I still do if I see a creepy doll!

  22. I haven't been all that impressed with editorial shots. These ones are fun and eye catching. BTW, I love the new Hitchcock nail color collection. I'll have to check them out when I get a chance to go to the Chanel counter.

  24. I love these photos! Sooooo cool! You should read the book, it's pretty easy to take, not at all traumatizing like Bambi or Dumbo!!!

  27. I love this campaign! I've seen the movie, and though I didn't love all parts of it, the actual wild things looked wonderful - cuddly and cute but still kind of creepy wild!

  28. So much fun! I never read the book but I did watch some of the movie with my (future) nieces and nephew- I think I'll have to watch it again because I couldn't get into it the first time around.

  29. I was never overly impressed by Where the Wild Things are as a kid - I preferred stories with bears, like Winnie the Pooh and Paddington :) But I have to admit, these monsters make a much bigger impact in the Mulberry campaign than any friendly clothes-wearing bear would have. What amazing photos! I`m not a huge Mulberry fan, although I do love their handbags. Especially the studded one in the second last shot!

  30. OMG, this is such a great concept and I wish more brands were creative like this with their fashion shoots. I totally remember this book as a kid and I remember a book called Hegedy Peg scaring me and I can completely relate to you on Bambi and Dumbo, I cried so much reading and watching those movies as a kid.

Nice post Kim! You always pick great content I haven't seen before

  31. I had seen this spread and though it was genius, although like you I didn't see the movie (and skimmed the book--if it's possible to skim a children's book, lol) because I don't like monsters, ha!

p.s.l I'm glad we agree on the jcrew tee. I'd still like to find another medium weight white tee for summer.

  34. I didn't have any scary fairy tales but with that Grimm Tales tv show nowadays I probably would have!

Anyway, this layout looks fun but I'm not sold on the looks for myself.

  36. I love it!! This was my favourite book as a child. I really wanted the costume he was wearing in the book, haha. The movie was so bloody depressing though. Haven't watched it since the first time. But, I love the book and my girls read it too :) Bambi made me cry and E.T. but, that's not really a fairytale, haha. Cinderella because her step mother and step sisters were so mean to her, but I loved when she got the prince :))))
