Voting Girl: My Election Experience

Most of you know, I was a very busy girl yesterday. I thought it might be fun for you to see highlights of my day. My morning started off by voting! Initially I was jumping up and down when I didn't see a line of people. I should've known it was too good to be true. My smile turned upside down when I found out the place where I vote (school) changed it's layout and voting was actually taking place on the opposite side of the building. So when we walked to the opposite side of the building, there was a HUGE line outside and inside. We ended up waiting a hour and a half to vote. They didn't even have any "I Voted!" stickers! :( Despite the grey skies, it didn't rain. So I was thankful for that. But ohhhh my mootsie tootsies! HaHaHa Well, Jessica Simpson bow flats! HaHaHa Just kidding! They were comfortable.

Then my mom decided to change out her SUV for a newer model. So we went to Lakeside Toyota and that took several hours. I've been holding on to my SUV and now I know WHY! Gosh, all the paperwork you have to sign is CRAZY! She purchased a 2013 Toyota Highlander and really likes it. So that's all that matters.

After all of that, I was super duper hungry! So we ended up going to a nearby restaurant called Deanies in Bucktown! It's not fancy, but they have REALLY good seafood. I had their seafood gumbo, ice cream pina colada, and their mate combo plate (shrimp and fish). I guess I was more tired then hungry, because I ended up bringing nearly all of it home! HaHaHa We had two other things on our to-do-list, but were too pooped to continue.

So that was my day everybody! If you live in the United States, how was your voting experience? If you live outside the United States, what's the voting process for your country? I would LOVE for you to share! I often wonder what others go through. We had lots of things to vote for, but I've never had to wait to vote for a hour and half. :S LOL!

  2. That was a jam packed day lady! I voted by absentee ballot and tracked that sucker online. Vote tallied and I did it from the comfort of my desk/laptop. No more long lines for this Floridian.

  3. Voting was actually pretty simple in my precinct. I was in and out in about 5 minutes! The traffic though, was another story. :)

  4. This is a great story to share Kim. You are one awesome and responsible citizen. I was not too eager when voting season was near back home but i think i went anyway. I have yet to have an experience to share here in the states but my husband waited about 30 mins yesterday due to technical problems with machine. Your day sounded like an eventful one girl. Love your mama's new hot ride.

  8. Wow, that took a while to vote! I had to vote with a provisional ballot since I went to a polling location out of my county. I was the first one there to use it! And I didn't get a voting sticker either :(

  9. Busy busy day! I was worried that the lines at the polls would be ridiculous, but thankfully in my small town it was quick and painless. And what a rip off that they didn't have "I Voted" stickers! That's the best part :)

  13. Sounds like a nice day, Kim. Specially the food part :)

In Spain the voting process is quite similar. We have two big parties and elections are held every four years. I've never had to queue that long, though! a couple of minutes maximum!

Have a nice day today too

  16. Kim, yum! You and I could probably throw down some food. Your day with mom sounded exhausting to me. I would have needed a nap..seriously. I poop out easily, especially after eating. I popped over to IFB...I loved seeing your name and Catherine. Wow two bloggers I know getting recognized...that is awesome. Congrats on 400 plus readers. You work hard at this and it's paying off. 18. I voted a couple weeks back. I've always voted absentee because I despise waiting on line anywhere. Well, here in California now you don't have to be out of town or sick to vote absentee. We have mail in ballots you can either mail in or go to your precinct and hand in. I'm wondering whether or not all states have the option of mail in.
Your reward for standing on line so long looks delish!

  20. My voting only took half an hour, which I thought was long until I read this! But then again I got there as soon as it opened. I think they should do it on a Saturday or make it a holiday for those of us who work or have school, or both like me yesterday!

  21. Boy you had one busy and productive day Kim! The food looks so yummy!

Because of the hurricane, the governor of NY signed an order letting people vote anywhere instead of just their polling site so my polling site was crazier than usual but at least they were organized and there weren't too many people on line for my district when I went. I did yell at a guy for trying to cut in front of an old lady and me but it was otherwise a smooth experience. I didn't get a sticker either boo.

Thanks for all your support Kim! We got power back but are still without heat/hot water. And despite that I still feel lucky cause I have a roof over my head!

Hope you're having a great week sweets!

  22. GOOD for you for standing in line despite the wait! It's always so great to hear people vote no matter how long they have to wait!
Lucky for me, we (my husband and I) went early and were the 1st and 2nd people to vote! It was such a good feeling.

Loved hearing about your day went! =)

  28. An hour & a half?! Crazy! I've only had to wait in line once, in 2008, & it was only about 20 minutes. I love voting! It's the most patriotic-feeling day of the year for me. I love the process but I'm so glad this election is over. Two years of campaigning was waaaaay too much. And I'm glad that my fb feed will finally go back to "what I ate for lunch" posts rather than the "I'm going to spew a bunch of ignorant crap about the elections" posts.

  32. Goodness, sounds like a busy day alright! I'm sorry it took so long to vote :/
I voted (for the first time ever, eee!) yesterday, and it took about 10 minutes. Aha, but keep in mind I live in a verrrry small farming community, so by the time I strolled in and registered to vote at around 1, the place was hardly busy.
Anyway, seeing the delicious seafood pics makes me sad...I'm allergic to seafood >_< Haha, so ironic since I'm half Filipino, but ah well. I may get curious enough to test whether I'm still allergic. You never know... ;)

I must have gotten really lucky on election day. My voting place had absolutely NO line. There was no one there! No one came after me (besides my parents). But every single other person I know had to wait for at least an hour. Wtf.

  44. The US presidential election is a big thing in Singapore too. No guess for getting it right whom many of my fellow Singaporeans supported. There was a almost a party on FB when the results were announced.

  45. Good for you for getting out to vote, Kim! I can't believe the crazy lines you have to brave in the States just to be part of the democratic process, so kudos to you for sticking it out :) In Canada, as long as you go to your polling station early in the morning on your way to work, there's usually no line up and the process takes about five minutes. Sadly, the elections in my home country never turn out the way I want them to :(

  47. Sounds like such a busy day!

Can't believe you had to wait that long to vote! Voting is compulsory here - you are fined and can be prosecuted if you don't vote. But even then I've never had to wait an hour and a half! I think the longest we've waited is maybe 30 minutes.

  50. Man, that sucks you didn't get a sticker. Your JS flats are super cute though!

    Here's our experience(hope it's not too long):
We woke up at 5:45 AM to vote with our Dad. It was very cold and raining but there was only 7 people ahead of us in line and were under a tent. We stayed in line for an hour because our voting place didn't open until 7. It took us 10 minutes to vote and then we were out of there!
Later that night, we went to a watch party for young professionals in Atlanta with our friends and cousins. It was so mush fun and nice to see young folks out and about.
