Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam Product Review

Another item in my Sephora haul (my last review was Philosophy's Orange Pineapple Body Wash) was Shiseido's White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam. It received wonderful reviews on both Sephora and Makeup Alley. The only thing I wish I would've done was READ the reviews in FULL. If I had done so, I wouldn't have purchased this for myself. Nearly every review mentioned "tightness" and "drying".

company name: Shiseido
product name: White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam
size: 125 mL net et. 4.7 oz
scent: clean & light scent
allergic reaction:sensitivity, flaking of the skin
purchased from: Sephora
cost: $35

Sweet-Bittersweet-Not Sweet
Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam is Bittersweet
The reason I give it a Bittersweet rating is that in my opinion, it's not good for ALL skin types.

Positive: Fabulous plastic squeezable container, with a sturdy flip cap. The scent is clean and it has a rich creamy texture (pearlized in appearance). Add water. Apply to the face. A little goes a long way and it works into a wonderful lather. Your face feels really clean, after using it. I didn't have any break-outs (pimples) while using this product.

Negative: If you have DRY or SENSITIVE skin (like me), don't purchase or use this product. I'm just cutting to the chase. I noticed dryness and tightening after the first use. I didn't stop using it, because I felt a light moisturizer would correct the problem. Well, it didn't. So I continued to use it, along with a heavier night moisturizer. My skin began to flake (see below) in my T-Zone, by my nose, cheeks and under my chin. I stopped. My skin also felt super sensitive to everything. My skin never looked brighter after using it.

Sorry for the up close and graphic photos, but it was the only way to show the flaking and peeling I experienced while using this product (plus I like to keep it real with my product reviews, which sometimes means showing the ugly hahaha). I used this product for two weeks everyday and this was the result. Why did I give it a Bittersweet instead of a Not Sweet rating? There were SO MANY people that stated they loved this product! I can only say, they must be Oily to Normal skin types. Hope this review helps you. Now for some GOOD NEWS!!!
GOOD NEWS! Jurlique must've known I was in trouble! HaHaHa They sent me a box of new products to test out (look for reviews in the upcoming weeks). They also sent me more cleanser and serum (which I've been using faithfully since this fiasco). To see my review on Jurlique Purely Bright Cleanser, click HERE. 3. I wish more people were more graphic/honest about their makeup reviews. I'd rather read this than someone "loving" something or being very vague about the effects.

  5. I looked at Shiseido once or twice, but I think some of the products had parabens in them, so I never bought anything. Thank you for such an honest review, Kim!
And yay for the Jurlique top up! :)

  6. Oh such a shame that you had such a reaction to it! I'm glad you got some jurlique to help rebalance your skin. Will be interesting to see if they have a product that helps your skin heal up quickly. I have super sensitive skin too so have to be so careful what I use.

  8. Wow, Kim, you are a dedicated blogger - the second I started to see flaking, I would have been looking or a new cleanser. But you toughed it out for us! Thank-you! Although my skin type is normal-to-oily, Paris is very dry {I'm used to living by the ocean, after all} so I think I'll be avoiding this cleanser at least until I'm back in Vancouver. Can't wait to hear about your new Jurlique products!

  9. Great review & thank you for being honest! My skin would have done the same...some products tear my skin apart, which is why it takes me ages to choose something. People need to know these things!! I hope all the new products they sent make your skin feel much better!! Super review doll!! Have a great day <3

  18. I could't use the product myself because my skin is very sensitive. I'm testing Wash Off The Years by Lulu and for now I'm quite happy! I will be looking forward your next reviews of Jurlique because I did enjoy the first seven :-)

  19. I never have much luck with Sheshido..ever! All of their products from foam cleanser to moisturizer dry my skin as if they suck moisture out of my body. Ouch..your poor skin looks quite irritating, poor Kim. I source out for a natural brand and it seems to work quite well. The key thing is to stick with what works for you (but us women like to try new stuff...ha). Unfortunately Jerlique products dont do any magic for me but thank god no break out.

I will look forward to your post on Vegas Kim. We didnt even make it to the Venetian, too little time.

  20. Thank you for another honest review Kim! I tried a lotion form this line awhile back and it didn't really agree with my skin which sounds like the same problem you had with this cleanser. Can't wait to hear what you think about your new Jurlique goodies.

  21. Yikes! Thanks for always keeping it real and honest. It means a lot to me, because I take bloggers' opinions very seriously. I need a good moisturizer, but like you, I have dry skin, and I would be so horrified if it got any worse! Good to know about this product!

  22. That's why I rely on your reviews Kim - you can be brutally honest! Haha, its very helpful to all the other sensitive skin types out there though. Jurlique couldn't have swooped in at a better time, eh? ;)

  25. So sorry to read that the Shiseido product didn't work out. Thank you for the honest review.

  26. I love that you were honest Kim. I have dry super sensitive skin, so I'm really finicky about what I use. I've heard so many women rave about Shiseido, and being a beauty editor you would think I would've tried it--but somehow never have. Sorry you had to experience the after-effects, but really appreciate that you shared :)

  28. Aww, I'm sad this product didn't work out for you! I have normal-combination skin (as does my mom) and we both love this product! Good thing Jurlique stepped in to save the day ;)

  29. Hi Kim, Thanks for the review! The only product I use from Shiseido is their makeup remover, that's it. Too bad it didn't work out for you but at least you tried. Can't wait to see more of your Jurlique reviews. That's too bad, eShakti hasn't reply to you. They're usually very good. Give them a shout. I had the same problem with Miss Dressy. They contacted me twice and I replied but they never responded. Have a great day!

  35. Wow, I was considering buying this with all the rave reviews and all, but considering I have dry skin as well, I'll pass. It may still work well for some family members with oily skin, but not for this girl.

    Thanks for the heads up!

  37. that's interesting kim, i'm sad as they didn't work for you - my mum has been using shiseido since she was a teenager (they have a few ranges for all age groups and she slowly made her way thru them haha) and she looks like my older sister now still! i have to admit i'm a bit partial to their products too, and they smell amazing! but as always what works for some might not work for all.. anyway jurlique to the rescue :) xx
