Savvy vs. Splurge: The Celine Trapeze Bag

Today, we have a guest post from Chic N Cheap Living blog. I love this blog, because it offers compatible & impressive alternatives to pricey products in both beauty & fashion. It's also a great source for sales & rebates to some high end & popular stores. Subscribe to her blog today. It's a WIN for your wallet & money.

Céline seems to be turning out one IT bag after another. It seems like every famous blogger and fashionista has some type of Céline purse. I definitely started looking at the mini shopper and box bags a bit more after seeing them on quite a few arms. But, with every famous bag comes an inspired bag at a more down to earth price. I'm all about paying for artisan made goods made with high quality materials. However, a similar bag that can be used for everyday purposes can be quite tempting as well though. The beautiful flamingo pink color of the Celine bag makes it a little bit of an unfair comparison, but I wanted to highlight the color possibilities of this bag (black and gray is also available at select resellers). Would you be savvy or splurge on the Céline Trapeze bag?

  1. Hi sweetie - I didn't realize I would be on today! I do love a nice Celine bag and admit I would totally splurge on this (but again, is it the color?)

  3. wow the "steal" one is almost exactly the same.. i bought the zara version earlier this year :)

would definitely stick with the celine if i could afford it, not the biggest fan of cheaper things if only from a quality point of view! they don't last and two months later end up in a bin somewhere :(

  4. I'm a huge fan of Celine, as I think I've made quite clear... but the trapeze bag is my least favourite style from their collection. I find all of their other pieces to be quite classic and timeless, whereas the shape of the trapeze bag seems so impractical and can't possibly be a lasting trend - at least in my opinion. I vote save in this case!

  5. You know what, I started thinking that only bloggers use Celine hehe :) cos I only see these bags on the arms of popular bloggers, not on the street or not on fashion magazines. For this bag I'd be savvy cos I don't like box shaped handbags, I prefer soft ones that I can carry easily like miu miu ones or louis vuittons, guccis etc.

  6. I must be living under a rock or something, because this is the first I've heard of Celine handbags. Haha. They're both equally cute, but I am drawn to the colour of the Celine bag. Have a fabulous day, Kim darling!

  7. Hi, Kim! Both are nice looking bags... Myself, I'd likely keep a splurge purchase capped in the $500 range. But...I am a bit of a tightwad. ;) xo T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  8. I love the black version! But Celine is way to expensive for me. I would still buy the cheaper version ^_^

  9. Oh I'd not splurge on this sorry! You know I like my bags but the Celines are just not me at all! Too stiff and boxy for me.

I think how once a design is really popular if you look around you can find an inspired one that's similar at a better price if you don't want to or can't splurge :)

  10. I'm not sure if you know it but I'm a bagaholic Kim, so this blog can be really useful for me.
Although this Celine item is not "my bag" I'm more into bowling models.

  11. I actually love the savvy one more. I would have to see the other one in the other colours to see how they look, but I love the texture of the savvy one. I love this topic on Chic N Cheap Living, it's a favourite :)) Have a gorgeous day doll :) x

  13. I'm a fan of that Celine bag, but I must admit I would never pay that much for a bag:( That OASAP one looks good enough that I wouldn't mind buying that one instead.

  15. Great feature Kim! I'm a huge fan of CnC living :-) This is a dilemma: for nowI will do without the trapeze as I can't afford the real thing, but I reserve the right to change my mind tomorrow :-)

  25. I have been tempted.... but I know me and I will not spend that much on a bag. So the savvy one fits the bill.

  26. Celine bags are right up there with the Chanel bags. Nice to know there is an alternative that is more cost effective. Thanks for the post! :)

  33. I love this bag, the shape is so unique and stylish. I would, however, go for the savy option; similar look, much lower price

  34. Love the Cheap N Chic blog, especially this series, she laws finds the best savvy saves that look so much like the original designer pieces. Great work!

  35. wow based on these photos, the save option is such a great copy!
There are some things I would totally save for but the mere splurge seems like such a nice idea doesn't it? If only I really could afford such things haha

  38. While I would say the steal - when it comes to bags, I'm all about quality, and they must be leather. So I'd have to splurge on this one.

  39. The price of the cheap version is great, of course, but I would never ever buy it. Even if I was paid. Buying a bag that looks exactly like Celine is sort of like buying a fake or looking too desperate to own an original. Having said that, I wouldn't buy the original Celine version either because I've seen it on so many people by now, it doesn't feel special any more. :)

  41. As a Celine bag owner myself, I would probably save more to get another Celine. It's a great bag. The quality is great and of course, I'm sure you pay for the design as well.

  42. I don't think you could go wrong with either bag but I think I'd want the real thing in this case :)

  48. I would definitely buy the 2 way contrast tote. I don't feel like you are getting thousands of dollars more value from the Celine bag. I guess brand names aren't that big a deal to me. I like the sound of the Chic n Cheap Living blog. I'm going to go check it out.
