Benefit The Porefessional Agent Zero Shine Review

I won Benefit's The Porefessional Agent Zero Shine last year in a giveaway from Benefit. It's a shine-vanishing powder! Whether you have DRY, OILY, NORMAL or COMBINATION skin EVERYONE experiences a little shine every once in awhile (or ALOT lol )...Right??? The concept Benefit came up with for shine control is very CUTE! They give you a cylinder (filled with powder) that opens on BOTH ENDS. One end releases the powder that you shake into a cap. The other end is a brush, that you dip into the cap of powder and then apply to your face. I experienced two problems. The bristles of the brush are so fluffy, that they're hard to place back into the cylinder afterwards (see my gif below). Bristles were sticking-out everywhere. I eventually got them all back in, but it was a struggle. So much, that my face started to shine again (I surely didn't feel like taking out the brush AGAIN to reapply). So what about the powder? Does it reduce shine? Somewhat. I didn't see much of a difference. It did make my skin lighter and unfortunately more ashy. I would NOT recommend this for WOC (women of color). Benefit wants you to be able to take your powder with you (brush & all) and easily apply it to your face when you need it! I get it! But if I have to struggle each time putting the brush back into the container and the powder makes me look ashy ... it's so not worth it! I rather use my compact with pressed powder & cosmetic sponge or blotting oil papers to remove any shine/oil from my face. Benefit should at least make the brush end opening as big as the powder end (then there wouldn't be a struggle). Hire an engineer Benefit! It's a real simple solution! Plus this costs $30!!!!!!! Super cute design & concept (BUT THE PRODUCT). I suggest you keep using your favorite face powder and skip this. So how do you girls powder your nose on the go?

UPDATE: Blogger (Cups and Roses) just told me there's a sliding apparatus that you pull up to make the brush SMALLER!!! I tried it and it does help! Thank You! I still think it's bittersweet because the powder is average :(

  2. I don't use powders in general as I don't like the finish, but this is the only one I have and I only use it to set my Mac Paint Pot before appying any shadows on top! As for the brush, there is a way to make it smaller and insert it back!http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KVsH1JMpC5s/Utb-X3rDG3I/AAAAAAAAEp4/yvYpGX_uFwM/s1600/benefit-porefessional-agentzero.png

  4. I don't use much powder, but this is good to know. I was intrigue by the name and packaging itself, really clever and cute. Thanks for the review.

  5. The concept of this packaging definitely sounds much better than the actual execution. I'm generally not really one for powder since I prefer a dewy look.

  7. Oh really? Im kinda disappointed by it now, I thought it works better! You know, I dont like the packaging, maybe they have to improve it and also change the brush, making it stiffer! Kisses Kim! xo

  8. I agree with Rowena...the concept did sound good, but too bad that the actual thing did not work. Kim...I gotta tell you...that GIF makes me LOL so hard:D

  9. This does seem like a product that's for on-the-go, and loose powders never go over well with me for on-the-go. I can understand why you would be frustrated with this.

  10. The concept of the product is great, glad you were able to discover the apparatus to make the brush smaller, otherwise the whole thing wouldn't make much sense, haha. I don't know how I feel about Benefit. I only ever tried one of their products the Porefessional primer, which broke me out. I don't know why because it claims to be oil free, but it did. I really hate to jude an entire brand based on one product, but then again, I don't know if they use some of the same ingredients in their other products. I guess we'll see :) Thanks so much for sharing, girlie, and I hope you're having a great week so far!

  11. I actually have used Benefits powder and primer and both did not work for me at all. My skin did not like them, but I've sensitive skin and even though many bloggers/vloggers praised it, I had to skip it. I had the same reaction as Jalisa. It broke me out. Thanks for this review Kim. You always keep us updated in the beauty world. :-)

  12. When I was younger, I loved Benefit products and really felt they worked wonders. The last few experiences I've had with the brand, sadly, have been very different. They have some great ideas but it seems like their products don't always live up to the promises they make. I haven't used the brand for a few years now and I have no plans to go back, unless you start writing lots of glowing reviews ;)

  13. There's been lots of mixed reviews on this, I do shine a tiny weeny bit at the end of the day but honestly nothing major so I don't need this. Seems like the latest additions to Porefessional range have also been receiving mixed reviews. I think Benefit it trying hard to ride on the wave of success of Porefessional and releasing as many products as possible with mediocre qualities.

  14. Since I am a WOC, I don't think this is for me. I love the term WOC, though. Too bad you had to face these two problems, but it feels good to win.

  15. Oh such a shame it's not a great product as it sounds so promising Kim, and looks handy! It's a wonderful idea, just not the best results! :(

  20. I haven't tried this but I would probably be annoyed about the packaging too with the brush! I'm glad someone mentioned an easier way but I don't think I'd want to mess with it lol!! Too bad this didn't work work, the concept sounded nice! Thank for sharing Kim, I'd rather use a pressed powder too lol!

  24. I love the packaging and the product concept - sorry to hear it was not up to par. In order to control my oil shine I use rice powder paper.
