Japonesque Velvet Touch Finishing Powder Champagne Collection Review & Swatches

Sponsored: Hey Everybody! Quick post today. I was sent a full size sample of Japonesque's Velvet Touch Finishing Powder Champagne Collection (available at ULTA). This set contains a really pretty gold compact that includes both powder & mirror. You also receive a brush to apply the powder. When I received this, the first thing that came to my mind was that it was an all over (face + body) dusting powder for the holidays. You know! The kind that shimmers. But it's not. I'm not familiar with Japonesque products, so I looked it up. This is suppose to be a micro-fine translucent powder (universal shade) that will blur the look of imperfections and leave a soft matte finish to your complexion. Now look at my swatch (on the back of my hand)! Do you think so? LOL You better have PORCELAIN SKIN if you want to wear this! Even blended out, it appeared white & chalky against my skin tone. This special holiday edition is ONLY AVAILABLE IN THIS SHADE 01. They do offer this finishing powder in 3 DARKER SHADES with regular packaging. Maybe those would work better for me!?! I read some reviews and they go from GREAT to I DON'T LIKE IT. I tried putting the color issue aside and only judge it on formula. Unless this matches your skin, there's no forgiveness.

  1. Oh my goodness, this powder is way too white! I don't know who it would work for, but it's definitely not you or me. Which is a shame because the packaging really is lovely. Thanks for an honest review, Kim!

  2. The white shade would probably work for me, I am fish-belly white, but matte, nope that's not for me then, I need something to make my skin glow, tho. Thx for your honest review, Kim.

  3. Looking at the swatch it is super white. I think it would look extra ghostly on me. Maybe you should try baking with it under your eyes to set your concealer and brush it off. I don't even know why I am giving you this option. I never bake when I apply my powders. LOL 😂💕

  5. Ah yeah that color clearly is not the best match! I wonder if you would like the formula in darker shades but I honestly don't appreciate when brands don't think of all skin tones whether it's for main collection or holiday!

  6. It looks like it would be too white even for under my eyes where I use really pale concealer. Thanks for the review, I'll be avoiding this one.

  9. Conceptually this sounds like it could be a good product but boy did they miss the mark on the execution. That shade is very limited and doesn't even look all that flattering. Thanks for your assessment Kim. Can definitely pass this one up.

  10. Oh wow! That looks like a beautiful powder but u can't see if working for every skin tone. I see a lot of youtubers you things like this to set their under eye concealer, put a ton of it on and then wipe away the extra. Maybe it could work like that? I don't know lol!

  11. Wow, it's really....white, lol! It actually looks much different watched than in the pan, it looks yellow. Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts as always, Kim, it's very much appreciated. I hope you're having the absolute best week so far, my friend!

  12. It looks so white! My mineral makeup finishing powder looks white but is made for light skin and works perfectly with my tone. I don't see how this one could be universal.

  13. WTF? Unless you're pale like a ghost there is no effing way anyone could wear this. And why don't they release more shades anyway? Companies need to stop doing that.

  14. that swatch looks chalks white...universal shade? Is there such a thing:)? I don't think so. Nice review dear. Too bad they didn't sent the regular packaging so you can try the darker shade but it isn't your fault.

  15. How crazy that it's so chalky and white. I guess if you're very very pale it would work. Thanks for the review, Kim. wish you a lovely weekend. :)

  19. I love that the packaging also includes a gold mirror, lovely presentation! I can't appreciate the powder is VERY pale, though having said that... I'm looking a bit ghostly at the moment haha! Hope you're having a lovely weekend so far Kim :)

  21. I'm very off-white, that's why I would never put on that powder lest I should look like a ghost. I've used white looking powders which once applied were translucent and just set makeup. Like Urban Decay and Makeup Forever. This one looks too chalky from your swatch. Have a great day darling!

  22. That may even be bright on me! Too bad, it looks lovely by itself!

  24. Looks so white. Must be perfect for the Japanese Geisha, who put on their make-up perfectly.

  25. So true, it looks soooo white. Oh no! I bought one of their tweezers years ago and it was pretty good. Otherwise, I haven't use any of their products.

  26. Not Sweet ! wow - it has been ages since I had read that a product was THAT bad. And I agree it's TOO white.
Maybe its Geisha make up ?

  27. I agree with you Kim, I see it too clear, it seems talco, if I put it in my face I will look like a geisha!
