Kiehls Skin Care Starter Kit Review and Swatches

I've always been interested in Kiehls Skincare, but didn't know where to start! They have SO MANY products! Well a lot of companies (ex. Tatcha), are now coming out with starter "try-me" kits.  I think they're great, because it gives you a chance to try the brand. Since I purchased this kit, both the packaging and price has change. You get the SAME products, but it's $2 less $52 :) Hey Kiehls! I want my $2. This kit can be found at Sephora and Kiehls.com. Below are my thoughts on each product.

Sweet-Bittersweet-NotSweet
supersweet(run & buy it) sweet(really good,buy it) bittersweet(ok, issues)not sweet(not good,don't buy this stuff)

Kiehls Ultra Facial Cleanser - Sweet

I always do a side-eye, when a brand says "for all skin types". One size fits all...with skincare? It's usually NOT the case! But this cleanser agreed with my dry/sensitive skin. It's a gel, which I usually detest. But it foams up, cleanses the skin really well and removes everything. It's very clinical in its appearance and there is no scent. I will mention, I didn't like the feel of it, because it reminded me of liquid dish washing detergent. Very heavy. But my face felt clean after using it. It didn't feel dried out. My skin never became irritated or red while using it. My pores looked clean. I feel this cleanser can be used for all skin types, but I feel it's best for Normal, Combination, and Oily Skin Types. Again, I didn't have any problems in the three weeks I used it, but it does get the skin super clean. Not sure if it would be too much over several months. I didn't get any new breakouts or anything while using this.

Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream - Supersweet

I've been reading blogs for several years now, and one product that keeps popping up over and over again is this Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream. It's like people's HOLY GRAIL moisturizer! So I'm glad it came in this kit. It's a CREAMY white cream! Which I always seem to love! A little goes a long way with this moisturizer. You don't need much. It feels really good when you apply it to your skin. It does a really good job moisturizing the skin. But what makes this moisturizer different is that your skin STAYS moisturized for A REALLY LONG TIME (without feeling oily, greasy or overwhelmed)! I think that's great, unlike other moisturizers. It's long lasting. I used this at night and woke up with SOFT, PLUMP SKIN! The new one has SPF30 which protects from UVA/UVB and provides 24 hour moisture.

Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado - Supersweet

I've only tried a couple of eye creams and most have been sub-par. The one that I liked the most was MURAD's Renewing Eye Cream. But this one by Kiehls has really been impressive! This lime green cream, really provides moisture to the under-eye area. It sticks to that area! My under eye area looked moisturized and plump after using this. It's very cooling and soothing to the skin.

Kiehls Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate - Bittersweet

This concentrate that contains 10.5% Vitamin C is suppose to reduce lines & wrinkles and improve the texture of the skin. I don't think I had enough of this product to verify that claim. I applied it to my skin and it felt very moisturizing. I noticed that it blurred the lines in my skin, but not completely. It gave my skin a softer appearance. I applied it to the right of my hand in the picture below and you can see that blurring effect. It was just ok in my opinion. I had enough for about a week and those were the only results I saw. You probably need to use it longer to get better results.

Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate - Supersweet

This is a serum (but feels like an oil) with lavender essential and evening primrose oil. You use it overnight to help the skin repair itself. It's suppose to improve firmness and elasticity. I was able to get three uses out of this ampoule. It feels like a lightweight oil. It felt very good to my skin. It takes several minutes to absorb fully into the skin. But this felt so calming! I usually detest lavender, but I loved this! Very soothing. Very calming to the senses. I woke up with soft supple skin. It's definitely a treat for the senses and skin. I will have to purchase the full size and compare and contrast it to some of my other nighttime favorites.

Have you tried anything from Kiehl's? Tell me what you love or didn't love.

The face cream sounds amazing too, and so does the eye cream! I'm glad most of these worked out, Kim!

  4. Kiehl's is one of my favourite products. It's a very reliable brand. I use their moisturizer. Just like you said, you only use a little and it works wonders.

  5. Okay I know our Sephoras are different but I hope we have this here in Australia - this is exactly the kind of thing I need, a starter pack to trial out some new skincare! I've been a little unimpressed with mine lately (I have skin issues in winter) and you have given so much of these products such good reviews, and I've heard other good things about Kiehls.

Definitely going to check this out tomorrow on my lunch break! I'm sure it's a sephora across the road from the office, I will go see! :)

Hope you had a great weekend :)

  6. I have not tried much from Kiehl´s, only one thing that I wasn´t super fond of, but the Midnight Recovery Concentrate and the Avocado eye cream are on my list. Starter sets are great, I love them to get a feeling for the brand.

  7. I haven't tried anything from this brand. I'm new to skincare and would really like to test out new products. I have normal to dry skin and this sounds like it might be good. I agree, kits are very useful. http://www.mrsqbeauty.com

  9. I have never tried any products from Kiehl's. It is wonderful that companies are offering starter kits. Brilliant! Especially since the regular size products can get quite pricey.

  10. Kim, it was really smart of you to start with this kit! It's such a great primer on Kiehls skincare since it contains some of their flagship products. The Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream has always been one of my favorite moisturizers of all time. You need to try their body one too. It's the best! I tried a sample of the Midnight Recovery Concentrate and I like it enough that I want to purchase it at some point. The Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado sounds amazing! I totally need to add that one to my list.

  12. I've considered trying Kiehls a lot of times, but never pulled the trigger. Recently, a good friend of mine tried a few products from their range and had a really bad reaction, which has made me more hesitant to get them a go myself. But since I know your skin tends to react in ways that are similar to mine, you just may have me convinced to give Kiehls a go! The moisturiser sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.

  13. Khiels products are really very good. I have tried their cleanser, toner and moisturizer. I liked all three. The midnight recovery is definitely a holy grail product for some people. The reviews are always great. I definitely want to purchase a bottle when I have more money in the bank, LOL. 😂💖

  14. One of the things I love about Kiehls brand is that the sample/trial sizes are sooo big, they are almost the size of a regular product. All of the products I have tried from the I have loved, the only ones that have been a miss are shampoo and conditioner.

  15. Starter kits are such a great idea and I wish more brands released them! Anyways I've tried both the eye cream and the midnight recovery concentrate and agree with your reviews for both! The moisturizer has been on my radar but I've never purchased it because it seems almost too simple, though sometimes that can be a good thing! Another one of my favorite is their creme de corps whipped body butter in soymilk and honey - smells soooo good and feels amazing on the skin!

  18. Oh man! Kim, now I have to really get my hands on that Ultra Facial Cream! A Supersweet rating is all it takes to convince me:D Thanks for this review, my friend. I've only tried the Kiehl's hair stuff which I do like, but I think their skin care stuff sounds loads better.

PS I'll go with you if you do go to DisneyWorld/Universal!:D

  19. I like KIEHLS :). I have bot of their toners and the essence and they're very good. I love their facial masks too, but I haven't tried any moisturisers. The eye cream sounds amazing, will have to check it out. Thanks for the review!

  21. The midnight oil is on my wishlist. I'm yet to read a bad review of it! And I love a good facial oil. I think I'm going to have to treat myself to this one soon. My skin could use a treat.
