Storybook Cosmetics X Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Storybook Palette Review and Swatches

I've Got A Golden Ticket.... TO COURT!!! LMAO Yes, yours truly has been selected for Jury Duty. Oh Joy! I received the notice right before Halloween...Trick or Treat! Wish me luck these next two weeks. But anyway, today I'm reviewing Storybook Cosmetics' Charlie and the Chocolate Factory eye shadow palette $55 (yes, they did receive permission to use the original artwork). Have you heard of Storybook Cosmetics? I just learned about them this year! As their name suggests (3 sisters), they do movie themed eye shadow palette books & makeup brushes. Their current one is Mean Girls! My eyes lit up when I heard they were going to do Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I purchased this strictly for the packaging. I didn't care if any of the eye shadows worked or not (well maybe a little). So how do they perform? You're given 12 eye shadows. About 3 were duds... milk duds ;) The others had nice pigmentation. I used Smashbox primer on the back of my hand to swatch these (as I always do). There was a lot of "kick-up" when I dipped my makeup brush into this palette. The hits are Golden Ticket (Rihanna Fenty Gold), Wonka Bar (true candy bar milk chocolate brown), Fizzy Lifting Drink (great sprinkle of gold for the inner eye) and Violet Beauregarde (gorgeous purple). They applied ok. You really have to blend. The color scheme holds pretty true to the movie. I don't quite understand the Mike Teavee color (maybe it's the handkerchief around his neck). If you're a fan of the movie, get it. If not, pass. The packaging is SUPERSWEET! It's that beautiful. The pictures of candy bars inside the palette are a gorgeous touch, great mirror and I love the saying Tremendous Things Are In Store For You. Plus, you get a Golden Ticket! The eye shadows...meh. You're paying for the packaging. I think for many, the color scheme may be hard to work with (especially for novices like me). However, this is one of my FAVORITE movies! I watched it and the movie Oliver continuously. Always hated the boat scene, but the candy shop candy-man-can, willy wonka factory, veruca salt bad egg and violet beauregarde blowing up like a blueberry scenes are my favorites. RIP Gene Wilder. He will always be Willy Wonka.

  1. I am a huge fan of the movie and the books, but I will pass. Too much makeup to even use everything I love, so no need in adding more I don´t really plan on using.
And good luck with court duties.

  2. Oh good luck with the jury duty! I've been called up so many times! First time I had exams so couldn't do it, then I was on a big project at work so needed an exemption, then last time I was pregnant. They said pregnancy/kids wasn't an excuse but I wrote a letter explaining I was a tired pregnant mum to a toddler and they must have decided I wasn't a good fit, haha! My mum was so annoyed to get asked when I was due with toddler T, my OB had to write a letter saying I was due to have her first grandchild and so it wouldn't be a good idea to put her on the jury, haha! I know I'll probably need to do it next time I'm called.

Anyway, that aside! These do look like hard colours to wear, although it is a very fun pallette! I can see why you had to have it for your collection :)

Hope you had a great weekend :) We went to a theme park, a nice way to relax after a stressful sick-filled week!

  3. Oh my gosh! The packaging is indeed Supersweet. Love! Too bad the shadows are just meh. Kim, my DD loves both the old and new movies:) We always watch the Johnny Depp one, but she likes Gene Wilder too.

  4. So pretty! I've heard of Story Book Cosmetics but I haven't tried anything from them yet. 55$ is steep when I factor in exchange and custom fees. Palettes are my weakness, it's so hard to decide which ones I "need."

  7. Jury duty is never fun! I hope you'll have a quick and non-eventful service Kim! The first time I ever did jury duty, we couldn't reach a decision and had to be sequestered for two nights O_o The packaging of this palette i super fun. It's too bad that eyeshadows weren't as good. Most of those shades are not really for everyday wear but at least this makes for a nice collector's item for a Willy Wonka fan like yourself ;p

  11. I love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I can't believe I haven't heard about this. I love the concept but the colours and style just leave me underwhelmed, even the cover to me is disappointing. The shadows remind me of the Nikkie x Too Faced collab weirdly but I don't think I would reach for these shadows much, great review xxx

  12. Oh my gosh this palette is so cute!! The packaging on this is the best, and it's one of my favorite movies too. I'm glad some of these shadows were good, but too bad they all weren't! I've been following storybook cosmetics for a while but I wasn't aware of this palette!! I really wanted the Harry Potter themed one that they made!

  13. I'm such a fan of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so I absolutely love the idea and design behind this palette. I actually love that this brand creates makeup products inspired by movies, that's so cool and it makes for great collectibles, too. Though I love playing with makeup, I'd have no idea what to do with these colors, lol. I love mixing and matching colors in outfits, but when it comes to makeup, I feel the technique is quite different that I wouldn't know what to do with such bold colors, though they're gorgeous, haha! Thanks for sharing, gorgeous, and I hope you have a great week ahead!

  14. I love the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie but I know the colours from it are too vivid for me, so this eyeshadow palette doesn't really have much appeal. With that said, though, I can see it fitting in perfectly with your collection, Kim, so I'm really glad you were able to get your hands on it. Good luck with jury duty - I was called once years ago but managed to be dismissed without having to serve, thank goodness!

  16. I love this story, so nostalgic! Keep us posted with your golden ticket to the court. I want to know everything cuz it's just too cool. My hubby was chosen once but his English wasn't good so he had to turn it down.
