Cafe du Monde: French Quarter

Not Sponsored: If you would ask anyone from New Orleans what you must eat while visiting New Orleans, 99.9% would tell you ... BEIGNETS! They might also suggest that you have beignets at Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter. When I was a little girl, that was pretty much the only place you could get beignets (and it was such a treat). Its history is very interesting! You can read about it in depth here. The original stand was established in 1862. It's owned by the Fernandez Family. Hubert Fernandez purchased it from Fred Koeniger in May 1942 and its been in the family ever since. Cafe du Monde use to be open 24 hours 7 days a week (but now check for covid-19 operating times). They have many locations. They only close for Christmas or if a hurricane comes a little too close ;) I've shown you Cafe du Monde in Metairie. Also, Cafe du Monde in City Park. Today, I would like to show you a glimpse of the one in the French Quarter. I say a glimpse, because this was a surprise day trip for me. I didn't take many pictures. I just sat taking in everything around me (all the sights & sounds). I noticed how some things were the same and how many things had changed. Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter is the same. Beautiful round marble tables. Green canopy. Same delicious beignet and cafe au lait offerings (I'm not a coffee drinker, so I always get chocolate milk). There were outside musicians playing. There was a mix of locals and visitors. People social distanced and wore masks. What surrounds Cafe du Monde has expanded and modernized. To help you out with this, I've included a map of the French Market. There are so many shops in this area. There are boutique style shops for arts & crafts, children, clothing, confections, jewelry, souvenirs, sports and even tours. I need to visit these shops. Another thing I love are the artists in this area. Their work is so beautiful. That's why I chose to add some artists to this post. Artists are so gifted. They know how to capture a moment. Make things even more beautiful. I love art. Especially food art :) Well you guys, the beignets were really good and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. This was the start of my day. Stick with me, because I'm going to take you on a little field trip to the French Quarter. I made a number of stops. All so interesting. Next stop? Jackson Square.
