Magazine Notes: Don't Rip Em! Don't Stick Em! Pic Em!

So you're flipping through a catalog or magazine and you see something you LIKE! What happens next? Ripppppppp! You tear out the page or maybe use the stickers provided by the magazine to mark the pages.

Hmmm. Well ladies, there is another option. Why not use your cell phone to take a picture of what you like in that magazine or catalog?

I'm a lady on the go and you are to. I don't have time, nor does my purse have any room to carry ripped pages from magazines or even heavy magazines with tag flags coming out of them. Who wants to carry all of that from store to store? Let's put our cell phones to work!

It's so easy (and may I add polished) to take a pic of what you like and refer back to it a little later. Now if you collect editorials etc in a binder, this won't work for you. This is for the girl that sees something she likes and will buy it in the next couple of weeks.

Retail and Online Shopping
The next time the sales lady asks..."Can I help you?" Tell her..."You surely can!" Show her pics of the items you've saved on your cell that you wish to purchase. A picture is worth a thousand words and she should be able to find the items right away (that's her job!). You'll be in and out of the store in no time, instead of looking for the items yourself. While she's pulling the items, you can look at sale items and other things in the store.

Beauty-holics
How many times have you seen a particular blush, eyeshadow, or lipstick shade on a model in an advertisement and forgot to bring the page or lost the post it note you wrote it down on? Whip out your camera! Refer back to the pic you took. Again, it will help the sales lady find it for you or you can locate it yourself.

Style Inspiration and
Re-Working What's Already In Your Closet!
Use what ya got! You have a lot of fashion staples already in your closet. Just add new pieces and accessories to make that outfit look NEW again. Example: Animal print was big last winter! I have a leopard skirt similar to the one below. Now all I have to do is purchase those shoes by J.Crew and locate an orange-y cardigan. Voila!!! I'll have a new look for Fall! Magazines always give you GREAT ideas on how to put an outfit together. Snap a pic and SAVE! Get Inspired!

Grocery Shopping
Magazines are always advertising the latest foodie products. Take a pic! Refer to it while you're in the grocery aisle or go through your pics while making your grocery list and write them down. That way you'll never forget to try that new yummy food item.

Make Your Cell Phone Camera Work For You! Snap a pic!
Hope these tips help!
Have an Inspiring Monday!

  2. This is a great way to get inspired using technology. Although I am still old school and I rip those pages out and glue them in my binder, lol! Heather

  3. I have a stack of magazines that I have folded down the side to mark them or circle stuff in them as well. And I have been known to rip things out as well, but I like to make collages, so that's mainly why I do it!! But, I do like to keep magazines, it's fun to look back through them and see all the pictures and what people were saying!! But, taking pics of them would save when your in the doctor's office or somewhere else & you see something great & can't have the magazine!! Fabulous tip :) Have a super Monday! xx

  5. This is such a great recommendation! I take pics of scribble notes and product descriptions I see online and stuff, but magazines are great to snap as well. I have tons of magazine recipes mixed in with photos of pretty cappucinos and my kitty. Haha. ;) Have a great week, girl!

  6. Kim, great idea and one that I've done for a long time because of my job! It's important to be up on the latest fashions when you illustrate fashion and when I see something I think would be fun to paint, I snap a pic with my phone. It's also great when you see a recipe from a mag that you'd like to make but don't want to write it all down ... just take your phone to the grocery store! Hope you had a wonderful weekend, sweets! xoSandy

  7. What a no-brainer idea! I'm actually shocked I never thought of this before. I'm actually the terrible person who tears out pages from magazines no matter where I am! Ha! I normally tear out recipes or weight loss tips. I figure I can start tearing out the fashion pages when I'm actually small enough to fit into cute clothes. :)

  8. This is definitely a great way to go shopping--very 21st Century. I actually went to the mall yesterday and this would have made my shopping experience easier. But I now find that malls are just too crowded, so I think I'll continue shopping online for the most part.

  9. That is a great idea, Kim! A lot of times I'll find something great in magazines but then I completely forget about it. Taking photos of it on your cell phone is a wonderful reminder!

  12. Kim, I have been doing for a long time now, I even take pictures of random documents just in case I forget or lose something! How crazy?

Asos (magazine) have developed an app for when you hold you phone over a page they have highlighted, (AKA SCAN TO SHOP) it will take you to the relevant shop! How cool?

  19. Wonderful advice! I've never thought about taking pictures of them, but I never rip pages from my magazines either. They just seem too precious to me to rip apart, even if I really love a page or two. :)

  20. Oh Kim! You have no idea how useful this was to me! I honestly hadn't thought of doing that! Definitely beats cutting or tearing pieces out to just loose them later, can't believe I hadn't thought of this before, hehe!

I have an inspiration folder on my computer, I'll soon be filling it up with magazine pictures, thank you :)

  34. I do exactly the same with hair styles. I used to carry print outs and magazines around like some donkey, but after I got my iphone I decided to take photos instead. Works a treat. :) I also make my clients (as am a nutritionist by day) take photos of foods and food related items both during consultations and when they are out and about shopping - takes all the guess work out. :)

    Have a great day!

But wow, $60 for a faux leather bag seems a bit pricey to me :o

  42. I actually do this often, because I am an on-the-go lady. Especially when I'm seeking something to buy, mobile in hand with photo always helps. This past weekend I finished all of my glossies, but I also love tearing a few great inspirations sometimes, since I file a few of them ... it also helps me with work! :)

  45. That's a great way to store and later make use of ideas collected from here and there! My hubby makes good use of the cell phone cam- he even takes pics of the black and white labels that are adhered to the packages that we receive for future reference! Technology has made our life so much more easy!
