DHC Skincare Limited Edition Disney Alice In Wonderland Cleansing Oil Review

Cleansing OIL!?! OIL on my face!?! Are you kidding me!?! Those were always my thoughts when reading about or seeing cleansing oil products. Well I've had a serious change of heart! What made me change? Two things! One, my blog buddy Rowena of Rolala Loves. She wrote an awesome post on the benefits of double cleansing and a wonderful review of Laneige Cleansing Oil (I've known Rowena via blogging for several years and trust her opinions). Two, DHC Skincare came out with a Limited Edition Alice in Wonderland Themed Cleansing Oil this year! How cute is the packaging (there are 2 designs to choose from...i couldn't choose, so i purchased both)!?! If anything would get me to try a cleansing oil, it would be Alice in Wonderland (remember my Dior Wonderland post?)!!! LOL The only problem was, I read reviews on DHC Cleansing Oil in the past and many with sensitive skin stated it was too drying for them. I threw caution to the wind and still ordered it, because if nothing else, I wanted the packaging! LOL To get the Alice in Wonderland packaging, you must order it from Japan (i purchased mine on eBay from this seller).

So how did it work for me? I've been using this cleansing oil daily for a month now (ONCE a day in the evenings to remove my makeup) and I HAVE NOT experienced any dry patches, redness or sensitivity. I'm amazed, because I have both dry and sensitive skin. Keep in mind this cleanser is to remove makeup, dirt & cosmetics (1st step). After using my regular cleanser (2nd step), I still require a moisturizer afterwards, but nothing more or extra. DHC Skincare has been around a very long time (1972), however I'm not familiar with their history. I've never tried any of their products or followed their skincare collections before. So I'm not sure if they've re-formulated their cleansing oil through the years. I can only give you my opinion based on THIS experience and also what I've read. For the curious and curiouser, this applies and feels like an oil (but is much lighter), let it sit for 30 seconds and then wash it off with warm water. It foams up (white foam) and washes away. It dissolves every speck of makeup on your face. There's no trace of oil! There's no oily or greasy feeling afterwards on your face. Your face feels clean! It's amazing! Your skin also feels super soft afterwards. I love it! You then continue with your regular skin care regimen and products. I am officially a double-cleansing girl! I'm so excited! This is the first cleansing oil I've tried (and I'm impressed), so I'm giving it a sweet rating. I plan on trying others to compare. Next on my list to try is Laneige, suggested by Rowena.

Have you tried cleansing oils? Do you double cleanse? I'm in a cleansing oil Wonderland! This is definitely the way to go! There's no turning back for me! OFFFFF with my makeup!

  1. Ohh!! I love this packaging!! I'm good for an oil base rather than the soap base because I have a 'more mature' skin. I love using this type of product. Stay in Wonderland, dear Kim, it suits you so. Xxx

  4. Lol Kim, as you I would have bought just for the packaging, utterly sweet! And after ur experience for sure Id give it a try. I used only 1 cleansing oil so far and it is from Sephora. I found it quite good even if not great (I think cause I always have problems with products from them) but I like the idea of cleansing oil. I remember also the one suggested by Rowena. Have a great week Kim, hugs! xo

  5. I've never tried cleansing oils before since my skin is oily and you know, I don't want it to be greasier. But after reading your review now I think I may try sometimes soon. It's nice that you found it and you loved it! Thanks for sharing!

  6. These are wonderful. I would have bought them for the packaging alone as well. Love Alice in Wonderland. Am happy it works as well though. Never tried an oil, I wouldn't even have thought as my skin can feel strange with an oil. This looks wonderful though, am glad it worked for you. Happy Tuesday my dear Xxxx

  8. The Alice packaging alone would be a great excuse enough to buy this:D Good to know it's a great oil too.
I'm a big fan of cleansing oil since using the Garnier one, Kim. I have super dry and sensitive skin, and it has never irritated me.
Let us know how the Laneige one is for you. I have read that review from Rowena's blog, and it sounds wonderful as well:)

  10. Hahha oil on ma faceeee? Yeah I know what you mean; I have the same reaction when people tell me they put oil on their bodies and lay out in the sun to tan better. I double cleanse but I just use the same product. The first cleanse is to rub off all the dirt and make up etc. which I rinse off with a cloth, and then the second to rinse everything away and make my face squeaky clean. Obviously that is only in the evenings though; not only do I not need a double cleanse in the mornings, there is no way my sleeping schedule would allow for that business! Rosemary x

  11. Oh that is such cute packaging Kim! I can see why you had to get it, perfect for you! :)

I don't use any cleansing oils. I do sometimes use a makeup removed wipe on my face before my usual cleanser...but I'm lucky to have time to cleanse twice nowadays with baby, haha!

I had a lovely lady come round give me a free facial (she's from my mother's group) and I loved the products! No idea what half of them were, should have written it down! But I've ordered some now. One of them is a mushroom peel. I don't remember the name, only how much she laughed when I told her it didn't smell of mushrooms and that I was expecting it to after she was telling me how it was mushroom based! So not good with beauty things!

  13. The packaging is definitely attractive! =D I've heard a lot about DHC lately but I've not tried their products yet.
I usually double cleanse with oil and a foam cleanser. I recently found a replacement to my Shu Uemura's Cleansing Oil. I tried out Josie Maran's Cleansing Oil and really liked it.

P.S. You've been nominated the Versatile Blogger Award on my blog. If you'd like to participate, do have a look at my recent post. If not, it's ok too =D

  14. Hello Kim. I'm glad DHC works on you so that's double happiness on top of the Alice in WOnderland Packaging. The bottle is totally environmentally friendly coz it is perfect for reusing. DHC was all the rage in Singapore a while back. I haven't tried it though and might just give it a shot!

  15. what cute packaging! I've been using cleansing oils on and off, and so far it's been great. I use the Shisheido cleansing oil. I don't use it consistently though because I'm always in a hurry so I'd skip it if I don't have time.
I'll have to check this oil out; the bottle is just too cute!

  16. I'm so glad you finally tried a cleansing oil and have had a positive experience with it Kim. I definitely had some reservations about using oil to clean my face at first as well but double cleansing is the best! DHC was actually my first ever cleansing oil and they got me sold on them. I didn't know they made this limited edition packaging! It's seriously cute and I think if I had these I'd look forward to washing my face :) Thanks so much for the sweet shoutout Kim! I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of the Laneige cleansing oil.

  18. This packaging is really adorable. I'm hearing more and more about cleansing oils, but I'm still hesitant to try. Although your review brings me one step closer to trying it:)

  19. So this cleasing oil is only for removing makeup? I don't think I've ever heard of this kind before (or maybe I have and just didn't pay attention to what is was for). I use some oily cream stuff called Abolene (or something like that) to take my makeup off at night, but now I will give oil cleanser a try. My only concern is that my skin is oily, and not dry, so will this make my already oily skin even oilier?

  20. Oh my gosh I love the packaging! I totally would have bought them because of that, and I would have got both too LOL! I have never tried a cleansing oil before!

  22. Oooh, these are so cute, I'm officially obsessed! I double cleanse, but not with oil. I use ponds on my eyes to remove my eye make-up (that's normally the only place I have make-up) and then use a facial cleanser afterward. It works so well, I'll never go back!

  25. That packaging is too cute! I would have bought the oil just for that, too ;) What a bonus that is actually works, though! I'm a bit fuzzy on exactly what a cleansing oil does that another make-up remover doesn't, but when Disney characters are involved, I'll try anything once :)

  31. I'm surprised I haven't heard of this brand as it's been around for so long. The packaging in particular is so cute and I love the way you presented the photos with the book in the background too. I use Bioderma to remove make up as it was recommended to me some time ago. It suits my skin type but I'm always open to new suggestions! Great post and so well written Kim.

  32. As always (and being a pain :D ) I am wondering what's inside this one... I do use oils every day, for cleansing and on my face, though I blend my own... Plus a cleanser, of course, I wouldn't be without it. :)

  33. I heard about some people use oil in their skin, never have tried it just on my body. I am a sucker for packaging and Kim, you always showed us all this beautiful ones. You are so good finding them. This is a must try for sure.

  47. Cleansing oil - it is indeed a neat concept. I wonder how it's made, and how oil can be such a powerful cleanser? I know oil works well on eye makeup, so I'm actually not surprised. Thanks for introducing me to the product, because I've never heard of such a thing. Cool review! Glad it's "sweet."

  59. Hey Kim! Idk if you'll remember me as I've been away (too long) from actual blogging (as I got caught up microblogging via Twitter). I am excited to rebuild my blogger network so I hope when you can find a minute you visit my blog, A Preponderance of Fashion (<a href="http://preponderance-of-fashion.blogspot.com“>http://preponderance-of-fashion.blogspot.com</a>) and let me know you passed through.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you've remained an active blogger. As to this Alive in Wonderland post, it comes at a perfect time for me as I have a friend who loves everything Alice.

As to the oil cleansing, I'm glad to see you writing about it. My mom told me of it and I was skeptical until I had tried it myself and actually found that my face produced less oil because of it. Apparently I had been stripping my skin of its natural oils with other cleansers so my skin actually produced even more oil as a reaction (oh the horror--I falsely thought it was from heavy travel). Anyway, I have to track down these DHC bottles.
