Marc Jacobs Decadence Review

I first sampled Marc Jacobs' Decadence from one of those perfume strips in a magazine. I said, "Oooh! This smells good. I need to buy a bottle." Then I received a deluxe sample (shown below) from a beauty order I placed at Nordstrom. I've changed my mind. I've worn this on 3 occasions and the end result is always the same ... not caring for it ...  and realizing this perfume doesn't agree with MY chemistry. It starts off GREAT and smells delicious! The Marc Jacobs website says, "the fragrance opens with sultry top notes of Italian plum, iris flower, and saffron". Well, that's where the decadent love affair ends for me. His website then goes on to say, "the heart opens with luxurious notes of Bulgarian rose, jasmine sambac, and orris. The indulgent dry down reveals the base notes of vetiver, papyrus woods, and liquid amber." It's the middle and last notes that throw my nose for a loop. This fragrance changes as you wear it. It gets very woodsy, musky and spicy from the middle to the end. It doesn't smell bad AT ALL. It's just too much for me. So my suggestion to you, is to DEFINITELY TRY IT ON as soon as you get to the store (you will initially LOVE IT). Then walk around for at least 30 minutes!!! Sniff your hand! If you still love it, this fragrance is for you. But I bet you, it won't have the same scent as when you initially sprayed it on. Another thing I want to mention, is that this scent is definitely more NIGHT than day! It's PARTY! It's SEXY! It's A NIGHT ON THE TOWN! I think it's too heavy and too much for DAYTIME. So sample this well, before buying. The packaging is GORGEOUS and befits the fragrance! Despite LOVING the name and packaging, this is not for me :( cry cry cry

  1. Aww shame it doesn't work for you Kim! I've seen it around a lot and love the bottle, but I'm not a fan of heavy scents so hadn't even gone to try it yet. Sounds like I wouldn't like it anyway!

  3. That's no good. I've wanted to try this out but I am not a lover of anything musky or woodsy either. Thanks for the heads up because I'd no doubt walked out loving it only to choke to death later on in the day lol

  9. I really love samples as they can save you from a very expensive purchase that you may not like. I find they also have me liking things I may not have tried on my own. I don't think I have smelled this one yet, have to try it and see what I think. I love his cosmetics line, everything has been amazing. Thanks for your review, great as always!

  10. Samples are such a great way to see if a fragrance is for you. I once bought a perfume because it smelled really delish when I first tried it at the counter, but after a while the scent dried down to what was such an unflattering scent on me. Sorry this one didn't quite work for you.

  11. It'a good thing you received a deluxe sample of this scent before you committed to a full size Kim. I find that with scents you really have to "live with" them for at least a few full wearings to figure out if they're right for you. It's shame this one didn't work out but the packaging is adorable!

  16. Ah! I was dying to read your review after I saw you posted a photo on Instagram. This has been the most hyped perfume in a while. I have been looking for an honest appraisal of the scent after constantly reading how beautiful the bottle is. Without fail you explained it so vividly as well as honestly! I love your reviews, I simply cannot say it enough. Xo, Ellese

  17. Too bad, it didn't work for you. I am kinda picky with perfumes too. Thank you for offering to send some chocolates here from Walgreens. We enjoyed shopping at Walgreens there. You are so kind. Thank you Kim.

  18. Hi Kim, I don't know much about MJ fragrances, but I don't mind checking this out if I see it in the stores.

  19. Shame you didn't like it! But, fragrances are very personal and one is not for everyone no matter who's name is on it. So, it has to say you when you try it on or it won't work. I'll have to try it sometime, I like the packaging, but I am super picky when it comes to scents, most don't impress me at all, haha!! xx

  20. It's always such a shame when you find a perfume you love... but then try it on, only to find that it doesn't work for you. Luckily you got to try a sample of this before purchasing the whole bottle!

  21. So sorry the love affair had to end so fast. What a waste of money it would have been if you had bought it. I only wear parfum when I know that I am going to hug a lot of people, like at church, for example. Otherwise, I just do my little deodorant twice a day. Great review doll!

  22. I noticed the bottle - hard not to - when it first came out, but never smelled the actual perfume. I agree with you - some can be amazing at first sniff, especially when we use the strips, and then you put it on and it just wrong. Even worse, some can give me a headache, so I end up all perfumed with a headache, like a complete idiot! :D

  23. I love the packaging to this!! Too bad it didn't work for you Kim!! I always try to test perfumes out before I buy them. I know I'm in love if I put it on and can't stop smelling it for a few hours after lol!!

  24. Hey there Kim!
    I'm here again :)
I have to say that I have never tried scents from Marc Jacobs but have heard that they smell like heaven, but I never really cared for scents and perfumes since they usually give me a headache so I am not really into this stuff..
But I do feel that I'd agree with you..

  25. I've smelled this on a test strip, and it smelled nice. This must be one that you defintiely need to try on first. The bottle is so pretty, though.
