Sola Look The Flashdance Palette Review & Swatches

What a feeling! Is everyone familiar with the movie Flashdance? It came out in 1983, so even I was too young to see it! I just read some interesting tid-bits about the movie. Keep reading! It's about a girl who works as a welder during the day and exotic dancer by night. All whilst pursuing her dream to become a professional dancer for an elite dance company. Yes, rags to riches story! She falls in love. He's able to help her pursue her dream. They live happily ever after. Well a makeup company, Sola Look (I never heard of them before), came out with a Flashdance eye shadow palette. I spotted it on social media and my eyes lit up! I thought it was so cool! It contains 4 eye shadows: Alex (name of the lead character played by Jennifer Beals), Jeanie (Alex's friend who is a figure skater; the real life girl who played that character died), Maniac (the popular song in the movie sung by Michael Sembello) and Passion (a phrase in the song "What A Feeling" by Irene Cara "Take your PASSION, and make it happen!"). The eye shadows are all matte and very beautiful! Perfect for Fall. I swatched them for you below. When I was little, my mom would play music and we would clean the house. So I remember the Flashdance Movie Soundtrack! The soundtrack was more popular than the movie! HaHaHa Jennifer Beals played the role of Alex (Did you know Demi Moore was also a finalist for the role?). When I was little, I kept saying...Is Jennifer Beals black? I thought she was so pretty and there weren't many lead black actresses. Well, Jennifer Beals was 18 when she made the movie and was a student at YALE! Her father was black and her mother was Irish American. Jennifer Beals is not a dancer! And this was a dance movie! So they used body doubles and even a guy with a wig on for a break-dancing scene. The candidates for her love interest (character Nick Hurley) was to go to either Pierce Brosnan, Gene Simmons, Robert DeNiro, Richard Gere, Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, John Travolta or Kevin Costner. They ended up going with Michael Nouri HaHaHa Jennifer Beals was offered a lot of money to make a sequel, but she chose to pursue her studies at YALE. NOW GET THIS! Flashdance is based on a real person's life story (Maureen Marder)! I didn't know that! She signed a release (with her lawyer present) giving Paramount the rights to her story for $2,300.00. You guys, Flashdance made $200 Million!!! It was brought to court, but the courts agreed with Paramount that no fraud was done. I feel so bad for her! You guys, NEVER EVER EVER EVER sell yourself low. If a publisher or movie company or ANYBODY wants the rights to ANYTHING in your life, YOU ARE WORTH A LOT! Sola Look received written permission to do this palette, so they're ok :) They have another movie in mind for next year :) Can't wait to see. Love these cute little makeup companies. This palette is still available.

  2. The shades are so perfect for fall and matte as well, it's always hard to find some matte ones that I like, lol. Although right now I am totally into metal ones, using the mattes just for the crease. Didn't know the part about Demi Moore.

  4. When I was little I used to watch Flashdance a lot, pretend I am a dancer as well. Obviously, I had no rhythm or grace, but it was fun. Such a cool palette! I like the fact that the shades are matte, perfect for this season.

  5. Oh man! Thanks for this Flashdance trivia, Kim! You know, I've never seen the whole movie but just bits and pieces, but the soundtrack...that, I definitely know:D I didn't know Beals was that young and a Yale student at that when this movie was made. Good for her for not selling out on a sequel. And can you imagine Pierce Brosnan in that role....heehee.

PS Love the palette of course:) I'm a sucker for matte pigmented shadows!

  8. I had no idea Flashdance was based on a real person's story. That's really awful that she received so little in light of how much the movie made. So true about not selling yourself low! The palette looks cute and the color in it are very wearable.

  9. I had no idea that Flashdance was based on a true story, and how utterly criminal that the person whose story it was earned so little from it! This is a beautiful palette, though.

  10. I love the movie Flashdance! and wow, I had no idea that Demi Moore was one of the finalist for the role and the movie was based on a real life story. I saw this on social media too but gave it a miss as I have never heard of the company before but whoa, that pigmentation is amazing!

  12. Wow, this was such a fun read, Kim! I've only ever seen clips of the movie, but I've of course heard the sound track over and over and have always loved the songs! I had no idea that the movie was based off a true story, it's so sad that she walked away with very little compared to what the movie grossed. As for the collection, the colors are beautiful, and I love the names :) Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're having the most amazing day so far!
