Too Faced Mystery Bag 2016 Review & Swatches

Too Faced has been coming out with Mystery Bags since 2014. I think the 2014 was the best one (of course I missed it), because it included their Teddy Bear makeup brush set. You can see the contents of last year's mystery bag HERE. Below are the contents of this year's bag. Was it worth it? Lets see!

Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette

Everyone was hoping this year's palette would be the Totally Cute one ;) Maybe next year! LOL Honestly I may skip next year, because they'll probably give us that Love Palette that I have no love for or the Country one. HaHaHa  I don't have the Cat Eyes palette. It was introduced before I started blogging. Do I like it? Not really. I'm sorry I'm so blunt. LOL The purple, copper & ice blue color are pretty, but that's about it.

Too Faced Melted Frosting

The next miss in the bag was Melted Frosting. It's pink. It's PINK! My Snapchat fam know I did a HUGE pink product throw away. I purchased a lot of pink makeup my very first year of beauty blogging and many shades did not agree with me. I love the Melted lipsticks, but this color is not one of them.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara x TWO

Too Faced is ALWAYS giving out samples of their Better Than Sex Mascara! ALWAYS! Who needs to buy it? So I saw a deluxe size sample of it and then I saw another one. I was like OH JEEZ, TWO! LOL But when I opened the second one the brush was coated in PURPLE! PURPLE! I really try to keep up with makeup and I didn't remember Too Faced coming out with color mascaras. So is this a sign of things to come in 2017? MAYBE! It's very pretty.

Too Faced Glitter Glue

I have Too Faced's Shadow Insurance in my stash, but I still need to try it. I've been using up my Urban Decay & Smashbox primers. I've always wanted to try Glitter Glue! I was never rushed because I didn't deal with pigments or such. But since I got the cool ones from Pixi, I'll give this a go. So I'm glad this was in the bag. But it's SAMPLE SIZE :(

Too Faced Bullet Proof Eyeliner

The first thing I said was THIS IS THE OLD ONE! HaHaHa But I must say, it's really good! They now have Perfect Eyes Eyeliner and Sketch Markers. So I delved a little further! What's the difference in the three? Bulletproof lasts 24 hours, is waterproof, has a sharpener, and a sponge on the end to blend/smudge. Perfect Eyes lasts 8 hours, is waterproof and has a smudger on the end. The Sketch Markers are LIQUID EYELINERS! They're waterproof but Too Faced doesn't mention anything about how long they last. HaHaHa Plus the markers are FELT TIP. So that's the quick difference.I received the Bullet Proof Eyeliner in Ooh & Aah (wish I could say the same about this Mystery Bag LOL LOL). It's really pretty! Black & Sparkly! BUT, when you use the smudger it kind of wipes it away (see my hand). I think the sponge is too hard. I tried rubbing my hand REALLY HARD AND FAST! It DID NOT SMUDGE! So that was good!

Bottom line, I was disappointed in this mystery bag. I've seen the money that companies like Too Faced spend on EVENTS & BEAUTY INFLUENCERS! That's grand & dandy, but it's people like US that keep them afloat. I just felt there was nothing SPECIAL for us little people that support them year round. The only teaser was a little bitty purple mascara. They don't make many Mystery Bags, so they could've put in something from the Peach Collection or something for next year! Taking beauty influencers on trips, having parties and designing special things for them is very nice. BUT PLEASE THINK ABOUT YOUR CONSUMERS! Ok, I'm through with my rant :) HaHaHa I do love the illustration of the woman shopping. That was nicer then the contents!

  1. I can see why this bag was a disappointment. I'm not familiar with this brand, but I can see they didn't include anything special and not even anything new or exciting (besides that purple mascara). As far as I understand the concept of bags, they should include more, their best items, not just regular and old products ( I don't mean old in terms of due date but products that have been around for a while).

The illustration is pretty cute. I like this style of illustrations too.

I totally agree with what you wrote about events and influencers. Sometimes brand spent tons of money on them...and as you said, it is regular customers that keep them afloat. Especially in today's time, companies should make an effort to make their customers feel special.

  5. Ah, what a shame their surprise bag didn't impress - it does look as though they featured quite a few 'quirky' bold colours, as opposed to completely wearable shades. I have to admit, I love the look of the bright pink melted lipstick though haha ;)

  7. This review just made me LOL so hard, Kim. You have a way with words, my dear:D But yeah....it seems like this bag is nothing to write home about, which is really too bad. But at least, you got some nice products, so that's always good:D

  8. Glad I didn't get this. The Cat Eyes palette has been discounted at Nordstrom Rack for a while, and they have tons of them. It looks like they threw together things that no one wanted to buy (minus the Glitter Glue, possibly). Pretty clever marketing scheme — it's a way to get people to buy things they don't like/want. Oh well!

  9. The palette looks really nice, great swatches. Definitely would get that over everything else tbh, thanks for sharing! The purple mascara looks a lot brighter than I thought it would be. Have a great weekend xxx

  10. That's a cute concept but I'm such a control freak that I like to pick exactly what I'm getting haha. Nikkie's palette with Too Faced came with a purple mascara so maybe that's where it came from! I need to try the Better Than Sex mascara though (black haha) because my friend swears by it.

  11. Hmmmm... it sounds like Too Faced just decided to put everything that wasn't popular in the mystery bags this year. I'm always wary of anything that is a mystery for exactly this reason. It's really a shame that the offerings seem to be getting more boring every year, Too Faced could do a lot better.

  12. Awww I think I would have been disappointed in this bag too. I have the cat eyes palette. It was an impulse buy because I liked the bright purple shade in the center. It's a pretty palette but I've had it for a few years and have only used it a few times. They definitely should have put a newer palette in there, or one of their more popular neutral ones! And that lip color is a horrible one! Not everyone looks good in a pink shade like that lol!

  13. I can see why this disappointed you😀 The purple mascara sounds interesting though, I too had no idea they had colored mascaras. The worst thing in the box I felt is the melted frosting😀

  14. Oh no, it's such a shame you didn't like the Mystery Bag! I think this is why I don't do things like this or subscription boxes because I'm convinced I'll just be disappointed!

  15. There are definitely some difficult shades here for most people to pull off.

  16. I can see why this mystery bag was a let down Kim. I always love your honesty and there's really no need to sugar coat it when something is a disappointment. Well at the least the glitter glue will come in handy and the eyeliner sounds pretty good even though it's the old one.

  17. Oh, I don't blame you for being disappointed in this mystery bag. It looks very average.

  18. Wow, yes, that melted frost colour is definitely very ... PINK! lol. I have only tried blue mascara in the past, which I did actually like, not certain about purple. It's understandable why this was disappointing to you. Happy Holidays, Kim!

  19. I will be extremely disappointed with this bag too, Kim, seems like they give a bunch of mediocre and below mediocre products. You have a good point about all the lavish thing they give and pay beauty influencers, the same goes for Tarte which really turns me off.

  20. I am honestly not that impressed with Too Faced overall, especially lately. Their blushes are TOP KNOTCH (I adore the one I won on Twitter!), but everything else.... meh. Purple mascara sounds fun, but they are not the first to come out with that idea and a lot of their eyeshadows have been totally hit or miss.

  21. I understand what you mean when you say you are disappointed, it seems that they were trying to get rid of some products and shades that are not wearable and included them in this bag. The Cat Eyes palette is ok, there are some shades that you could work with but I would be sad too if I received products that I wouldn't use.

  22. I think you're right, Kim. If they have the budget for these trips and parties, they certainly have it in the budget or could at least make one for something like this that's only annual. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the mystery bag. I wasn't a fan of the Better Than Sex mascara when I tried it, I experienced a lot of fall out, maybe they'll change their formula and I'll give it another try, I'd love to try the purple!

  23. I agree, this was nothing special and we are the ones spending the money! Its crazy how much these brands spend on events and trips for youtubers.

  24. I have to say it does not look very appealing - sorry to hear the contents did not bring joy ;)

  25. Mystery bags are always fun! ;-) They remind me of lucky packets that I used to get when I was a child. I like the surprise of what is inside. That purple mascara is intense! I don't know if I would be able to pull that off. I totally agree with you that brands need to invest in their actual consumers who spend their hard earned money on the products.

  26. Spending that much money and only liking a couple of the sample sized items is such a bummer! I know when they put these bags together they can't please everyone with every single item, since so much of makeup is about color and not all colors look good on everyone, but you should definitely be getting at least a little more bang for your buck!

  27. I am glad that I didn't get this, even though the eyeshadows looks so good and pigmented, the lip color looks too bright.

  28. Dear Kim, I get it, they pissed you off! That's very clear lol. However, I love the cat eye palette and I've been using it a lot! I haven't tried the other products but that bubblegum pink lipstick makes me think: seriously? The eyeliner sounds good. Catching up with your reviews and cherishing every bit. Happy new year my friend
