Staying Healthy At A Music Festival

We may not be able to physically go out to festivals and concerts in summer 2020, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't prepare ourselves for the chance to get back out there and dance once more. Crop tops and jeans, tents and rain boots: the staples of a festival. Add in a tent, great music and good friends, and you have the most possible fun in the summer.

Festival season may be fun but it’s not without its issues. Not only are you potentially outside in torrential rain, you may have the flipside of that and have beating sunshine that can make you lethargic and burnt if you’re not careful! Add that to the questionable food trucks and the horrendously loud music and you may find you come home with worse than a hangover. You need to do what you can to stay healthy during festival season, whether that’s now or next year.

Preparation is the key when it comes to going to a festival. You have to make sure that you have enough space in your bag for everything that you need, but also for a First Aid kit. If you have any medical conditions, a bracelet detailing them will help you to ensure that if there’s an issue, medical professionals will know what the situation is with your health. Every festival has its own rules for taking food and medications in, so you need to get a doctor’s note for pills and potions that are designed to make you feel better! Also, don't forget your sunscreen!

As you know, festivals are crowded, loud and busy. Standing too close to huge bass speakers is the fastest way to ruin your hearing. You can find out more about getting a hearing test when you get back and checking for damage is so important. You want to enjoy the festival, not deafen yourself for life. It is therefore important that you bring earplugs with you for the moments you plan to be in front of our favourite band - either that, or stay away from the speakers and enjoy at a safe distance!

Bringing a cooler is a smart idea when you go to a festival. You can keep all of your food and drinks as cool as possible, which is far nicer than dealing with warm drinks and warm fruit and veggies. You want this to be a good experience, and warm food is really not the way to go unless you purposely buy warm food to enjoy. You deserve the very best when it comes to your health, and food poisoning in a place of shared toilets is not the way to go!

Lastly, before you head to a festival, let someone close to you know where you plan to be in the campsite. While you may be friends, it’s not uncommon to lose your friends and get a little dizzy with the pressure of people from all directions. So, bring your water bottles and your pepper spray and make this a festival to remember!
