Freeman Eclos Dare To Go Bare 2-Week Skincare Challenge

Ohhhh, wasn't I all SMILES in that picture on the left? Well that smile, has turned into a FROWN! Do you guys remember my post about receiving a free perk from Klout (read here)? It was the Eclos by Freeman, Dare To Go Bare 2-week 3-step skincare system challenge. Well, it didn't go so well. My skin reacted horribly to all 3 products.

Before I start MY review, I want to point out some bloggers who did reviews on these products. I DO NOT know them. I have never read their blogs. I merely found their reviews online. Jennifer from the blog Occasionally Jane had a reaction to the cleanser (read here), Kelly from Kell's DIY Nails blog had mixed reviews regarding these products and is going back to her original skincare system (read here), and Marlie from Marlie and Me loved all the products (read here). I thought that was a nice mix! Let's get started! I'll keep it simple. For the record, I have dry/sensitive skin.

Sweet-Bittersweet-NotSweet
supersweet(run & buy it) sweet(really good,buy it) bittersweet(ok, issues) not sweet(not good,don't buy this stuff)

Freeman Eclos am+pm Skin Prep Cleanser
Not Sweet
It's a gel, that foams when water is applied. For some reason, my skin reacts horribly to gels (it's happened before). It has a distinct and significant lemon scent. I personally don't like medium to heavy scented cleansers. So if scent is a factor, this product maybe a problem for you. It removes dirt and makeup really well. For me, the problems started after I cleansed my face and then dried off. My skin felt tight. It felt dry. After a couple of days of using it, my skin felt very dry, then irritated, itchy, raised with a rash, and pimply. I stopped! I was definitely experiencing a reaction. I started this program on July 30th and stopped by August 2nd. There was no way I was going to continue for 2 weeks. I think this cleanser is too harsh for dry/sensitive skin. Jennifer from the blog Occasionally Jane (link above) has combination skin and also experienced a reaction. I DO NOT recommend this product. If you want a good inexpensive drugstore facial cleanser, let me recommend Cetaphil. My dermatologist recommended it for me a long time ago and I used it for years. I gave Cetaphil a break to try other cleansers this year. I'm still using Jurlique and SkinFood's Tea Tree Foam Cleanser (look under my BEAUTY and ASIAN columns for reviews)

Freeman Eclos am+pm Moisture Therapy Regenerative Cream
Not Sweet
I thought this cream would help alleviate the dryness that I experienced from the cleanser but it didn't. It was creamy, but felt waxy once I applied it to my skin. After application, it felt like the cream was just laying on top of my skin like a light film. It didn't moisturize enough for me. The scent is lemon and is very pronounced. I DO NOT recommend this product.

Freeman Eclos Daily HydraPrimer SPF 30 Broad Spectrum
Not Sweet
I wouldn't even call this a primer! I've used Benefit's Porefessional (it's good). I've used Smashbox's Primer (if's fab). I went back into my blog archives for pictures. I only have one for Smashbox. Take a look at the pictures below! Which primer would you use? The eclos brand (bottom right picture) was chalky, didn't apply well and HELLO did NOT reduce fine lines or wrinkles. IT EMPHASIZED THEM! It's also tinted, so I don't see how it's going to work for some skin tones. I DO NOT recommend this product.

Freeman execs are probably cursing me out right now, but those were my experiences. Klout sent me a perk to receive MORE Freeman skincare products, but I turned them down because of this experience. Before this review, I did purchase some of their masks & foot care products (so I'll see how those go and report back to you guys). This was a really negative review. I hate writing these, but I know someone will appreciate it (just as I appreciated finding out I wasn't the only one who had problems with these products). Don't worry about my face/skin, its looking much better (almost back to normal) now. I went back to the Tea Tree Cleanser that had my skin looking beautiful before. Thank God I stopped when I did.

  1. Hey Kim, I think It's great that you've written this review, even though these products didn't work for you. I think it's important for people to see the good and the bad, and I trust blogs who do both kinds of reviews more. I think these products would probably be fine for people with less sensitive skin. I don't think mine has reacted to anything, ever. So, as someone with combo, not sensitive skin, I would still give them a try. Thanks for your honesty, I'm looking forward to your next post even more :D

  3. My skin can be very reactive so I don't think these would work for me either - sorry they played havoc with your skin Kim!

  4. I will avoid these myself as my skin reacts to things too easily as well. Terrible what it did, but I'm glad you had something there to help alleviate the problem for you & it's getting better. I once used a mud mask and I woke up with my eyes swollen shut, hahaha. Was not good. So, I'm careful as to what I use and if I have the slightest bad reaction, I never use it again. I hate when things make my skin go dry and itchy and then start peeling, it's horrible. I hope you have a super Friday & weekend to come doll Xxx

  5. Ouch, too bad your skin reacted so bad to these products :-O I'd say slap on the aloe vera cream, it really helps for me when I have skin irritation.

  7. Hey sweets, glad you write things like they are, not trying to butter it up. My skin is going crazy atm, think it's a combo of sunscreen, sun and old age ha ha. WOn't be trying that one at home I guess. Happy weekend love,

  11. Ugh! That's so unfortunate these products were duds, Kim:( But thanks for letting us know. That's the thing with skin care products....it's a hit-or-miss. Good to know your skin is looking better though.

  13. I'm so sad these products were so bad for you!

I'm glad your skin is back to normal now you are on your old routine!

Skin is such a sensitive thing, especially for me, so I'm always wary about changing products around. In all my many years I've only ever had 3 skincare brands I've used on my face, and I'm so happy with what I have now I won't change. :)

  15. Oh Kim! I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with those products. Especially when it affects your skin!

I have never heard of that brand before but again, I appreciate your honesty in saying what you thought. Seems like other bloggers had a similar experience.

Looking forward to happy posts next week although this wasn't a grumpy week, just an honest week! :)

  18. Ouch Kim, your skin did react to this and not in a good way - I have tried Freeman products in the past (very few) and the results have been acceptable.
I have rosacea and use Bioderma to remove my make up - it's very good - in case you want to give it a try.

  20. Yikes, I'm sorry that these products did not agree with your skin at all. Thanks for trying them and honestly sharing your experience with us. My skin tends to be sensitive so I have a feeling these would not work for me either.

If I go back and try the fried chicken, I will def. report back. Bummer about restaurant week in New Orleans but it's more important that your mom recuperates and I'm sure you're taking very good care of her. Just don't forget to take care of yourself too Kim. Have a lovely weekend!

  21. I just love your philosophy on reviews (I read your last post too). I see why some bloggers wouldn't want to put negative reviews on their blogs but that's kinda why blogging turns me off sometimes. You're so right - life isn't always sunshine & rainbows & I kinda can't stand it when bloggers portray it to be happy ALL.the.time. We ALL know it isn't reality so why try to hide it.

On that note, bummer these products didn't work out for you. I suppose they could work differently for others with different skin types but I certainly appreciate your honesty..as always! Have a great weekend!

  22. Yikes! But kudos to you for being honest and upfront about it. A lot of other bloggers wouldn't think to do the same!

  27. Hi Kim! You see what I was talking about yday regarding true reviews, like this one! It was really so helpful and honest, let me say that I am disappointed since when you have showed the stuff it inspires me and looks more professional! Hopefully your skin is back to normality with your usual tea tree cleanser. Kisses dear, have a lovely weekend! xo

  30. Ouch, testing beauty products is risky sometimes my dear!! The primer looks really bad, it looks chalky as you say. You know, this is what negative reviews are for: thank you for preventing many other girls from getting those rashes. I think the company will be pissed but hope they are professional enough to go through their formulas and make them better!

  32. Yeah gels are definitely not good for people with dry skin. I think your skin has to actually be on the oily side to use them. I like Smash Box's tinted whipped moisterizer and this is what I use in the summer.

It's a good philosophy as mentioned in your previous post.

I saw good out of Philosophy's cleanser for combination skin and I am using Dr Murad and they do good for my skin too. I've friend who has sensitive skin and they're using Pro-Active and it seems like their skin remains good as well. Hope this information will be helpful to you =)

  58. wooo. I found this blog after googling "eclos rash".

I started the 6 piece starter kit from Walgreens. I actually really love the lemon scent, so I was hoping this would work for me. It did not. My face, specifically above my lip under my nose, and below my lip, and the side of my face near my ears, are incredibly itchy, rashy, and I'm also breaking out. I'm so disappointed. But now maybe I'm thinking I have sensitive skin. I have a historically really inconsistent skincare routine but I'm 29 and I'm really trying to find something I can stick with and start taking better care of my skin. I'll be perusing your blog for some other ideas for my sensitive face!
