The Blue Crab Restaurant & Oyster Bar

Not Sponsored: There are several seafood restaurants nestled together on Lakeshore Drive. One is Landry's Seafood House. I mentioned in a previously written blog post how enamored I was with both Landry's atmosphere and delicious seafood. Today, I would like to share my thoughts with you on The Blue Crab Restaurant & Oyster House (which is locally owned and operated). The first thing I want to say is, I love their sign! It shows a blue crab. Blue crabs are pretty popular here in Louisiana. As a matter of fact, "Louisiana alone lands approximately 26% of the total blue crabs in the nation (source)." Blue crabs are excellent swimmers and I know first hand that they're excellent runners, because when I was a little girl one chased me with his claws up from the backyard all the way inside my house. I jumped atop my bed and screamed at the top of my lungs, before my grandfather so eloquently and quietly picked him up. Thank God for grandfathers! Blue crabs are used in gumbo. They're boiled at seafood boils. They're used to make soups, crab cakes, crab beignets and so much more. They're delicious! You should definitely read up on the different types of crabs out there (there are so many). The Blue Crab is a casual seafood restaurant that has both indoor and outdoor (downstairs - has a separate downstairs menu) seating. An elevator will whisk you upstairs if you prefer to sit indoors. Whether you're inside or outside, you will have a really great view of all the yachts on the water. They are magnificent to look at. I had their gumbo. Its offered in a cup or bowl. I highly recommend the bowl, because you get so much more than what you would get in a cup. The Blue Crab's gumbo is loaded with delicious chicken and andouille sausage. It's very hearty and tastes absolutely delicious. I had their crab claws. They give you a lot. They were also good. I wanted to try one of their frozen drinks. So I tried their Frozen Blue Crab Collins Daiquiri (its vodka, blueberries and lemon). I personally like sweet drinks, so this wasn't quite the mix for me, but it was refreshing and tasty. They also offer a Frose and Bushwhacker Daiquiri. I just wish they offered staple flavors, such as Pina Colada and Strawberry Daiquiris. I think that would be nice. They offer a wide selection of boiled seafood, soups, salads, pizza and lots of fried seafood. I ordered their combo platter in which you could choose 2 seafood selections: catfish, shrimp or oysters. I chose catfish and shrimp. The seafood was excellent! The shrimp were huge, tender, juicy and tasty. The catfish was tender and fried just right. The fries and hush puppies were slightly overcooked (but that sometimes happens). Now for dessert! I had their brownie a la mode. The ice cream was delicious. The consistency of the brownie could've been a little more solid, but it was tasty nonetheless. The waitress Constance was absolutely awesome. She was knowledgeable about everything on the menu. The staff and manager on duty were also very nice. I'll be reviewing another restaurant on Lakeshore Drive really soon :)
