Makeup Revolution Death by Chocolate Eyeshadow Review and Swatches

Remember the I Heart Chocolate eyeshadow palette I reviewed earlier this year and loved? Well, I decided to try the other two chocolate candy-bar themed palettes by Makeup Revolution: Death By Chocolate & Naked Chocolate. Kizzy of The Dainty Dolls House sent the first two to me :) Thanks Kizzy!  I was really expecting great things from Death by Chocolate, but it turned out to be just ok. The first row of shades are very splotchy when applied. The second row has beautiful colors, except the two on the ends. HaHaHa The third row contains beautiful shimmery shades. For all, you have to apply a couple of times. So, Death by Chocolate is truly like one of those assorted candy boxes, where you're going to like some and dislike others. I suggest skipping this, unless you want the cute candy-bar themed packaging (which contains a mirror) like me HaHaHa and getting the Smashbox Full Exposure or Too Faced Natural Eyes eyeshadow palettes instead. Hope you enjoyed Chocolate Week!

Sweet-Bittersweet-NotSweet

Makeup Revolution's Death By Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette is Bittersweet

Top Row: White Light, Don't Let Go, Break Me Up, Consume Me, All is Lost
Middle Row: Lick Me, Fool's Gold, One More Bar, Devour Me, Tear The Wrapper, Love You To Death
Bottom Row: Pray For Me, Dipped, Tease Me, Set Me Free, Bring Down Angels

  2. Oh my God, I'm in love with this chocolate palette. It made me hungry...haha. To be honest all shades are wonderful and so so wearable. You can create different kinds of eye makeup with these shadows. I loved especially the shimmery shades. Have a great day dear Kim. Kisses <3

  3. Too bad you didn't like this one as much as the first ones you tried! The packaging for this one is amazing though! I've never tried anything from makeup revolution but I've been hearing alot of bloggers talk about it!!

  4. If there was zero mention of beauty or eyeshadow I would have presumed this was an actual block of chocolate. In fact if I were drunk one night I'm pretty sure I would even mistake it for that. Hell, I think even my friends would, especially a male. That would be super funny to watch!

  5. Shame you didn't like this one as much as the other. I haven't tried any of them, haha! But, I do love the packaging. The colours looked great on the swatch, but I am picky when it comes to eyeshadows, I only use certain brands and leave others. Happy Weekend Kim :) xx

  6. The package is really cool and sweet, but I would not buy it. I am not into these colours at all. I did enjoy the chocolate week, Kim!

  11. Kim <3 you're so amazing! I love your posts.
You're quite on a chocolate trip I guess. The colors of this palette seem beautiful! What a pity that it's not the best quality. The packaging is really cute tho.

  12. Bummer this one is a miss and bitter. The colors are nice and neutral but what a shame they are not that good. Happy Friday Kim.

  13. It looks like a pretty palette, even though it didn't work perfectly! I am starting to think the chocolate thing is being over done though : (

  14. It's too bad the application of these shadows was so poor, because this looks like a great alternative to the much more expensive Too Faced palettes... I guess it's sometimes true that you get what you pay for, though.

  15. Great packaging. How sad that the product could not live up to it. This is my type of warm palette.

  16. The packaging is really adorable. It's a shame not all the colors worked out. I think your comparison of this to an assorted candy box is the perfect analogy Kim :)

  18. Shame that the pigmentation and quality of the shadows in this palette varies because I love all the shades, it's just so wearable. Thanks for a honest review, Kim.

  19. This palette sounds so interesting! I have the Too Faced Chocolate palette and adore that one. I love how the shades vary in this palette, but they look more wearable than the ones I have in my Too Faced palette.

  21. I suppose with palettes it can often be hit or miss due to the mass of colours on offer - it must be difficult to like them all haha! This honest review is brilliant on this product, as most people are blinded by the cute packaging (which uh, I'll admit I'm kind of guilty of too haha). I don't really wear eyeshadow unless on special occasions, but I've got to admit some of the colours really are rather lovely! :) Have a fantastic weekend!!

  22. Ok, where to start... First of all I'm eating an entire chocolate bar all by myself! :-D And the colors are absolutely my thing - neutral shades of brown and beige! So I guess: this palette was made for meeee!!! <3

  23. Aww that's such a shame that you didn't like many of the shades Kim as that is such a cute design for a makeup palette! :)

I'm sure I said that last time you featured a cute chocolate bar case, for the I heart chocolate review, but it's true, I love it! :)

  25. Whenever I see these colour swatches - so many of them in one palette - I can only wonder how long does it take you to use them up. Do you ?
Do you have a favourite one you go back to ?

  27. The swatches actually look good though sorry to hear that not all of them work well. The packaging sure is cute and make me crave for chocolate now.

    RYC:
Thank you, Kim. My eyes are only beautiful when made up. Without make-up, they would be those stereotypical Asian Chinese eyes. =) I sort of expected you not to do tags coz I can imagine how many times you have been tagged. And no worries about not doing coz I know we have the same feelings about tags-- Love reading them to know more about one but don't really like doing them for ourselves.

  40. I love how spot on Makeup Revolutions dupes are to the real thing sometimes! Hahah. I really love that this palette seems to contain a lot more cool tones than other popular palettes out there, but the iffy pigmentation and texture of a couple is a bit of a let down :( Not to mention its such a difficult brand to find in the US.

  43. So often with palettes I find that I only use the same few over and over but all these shades appeal to me. A shame about the disadvantages you mentioned. I rarely buy mixed chocolate boxes any more as I only eat my favourites!
