Benefit Boi-ing Cakeless Concealer in Shade No. 6 & 7 Review

Not Sponsored: Back in 2012, I used Benefit's Boi-ing Concealer. Benefit said it was "industrial strength-ed". It was housed in a little glass jar. It was a really good concealer. Then in 2017, they changed the packaging and only offered it in a limited number of shades. I cut it loose then, because not only did the foundation pull orange on my skin (2014), but also the concealer. I switched to Tarte's Shape Tape Concealer. Well, for 2019 Benefit has introduced a LIQUID CONCEALER called, Boi-ing Cakeless Concealer (ULTA, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Urban Outfitters, Sephora, Saks Fifth Avenue, QVC, Macys, Benefit, HSN). This concealer is offered in 12 shades. Benefit is one of those companies that ALWAYS has the cutest packaging. I purchased products from them when they were a San Francisco indie brand (they are now a subsidiary of LVMH) and BEFORE I even started blogging. They use to have cute ruffled shower caps and bath & body products, before entering the makeup world arena. My eyes lit up when I first saw the packaging for this concealer. Its housed in a pencil-themed container...eraser and all. Its the cutest. Then when I saw the advertisement (this was in my ULTA flyer) with the girl (top bun w/whipped cream & a cherry on top and frosting on her face) I just died! How cute!?! I love her scalloped dress and the cake has the concealer placed in it like candles. Benefit, why aren't these candles (instead of pencils)? But anyway. The packaging and marketing for this gets an A+. I purchased this concealer in shades 6 & 7. Shade 6 is closer to my skin tone. Shade 7 is darker, but mimics my Tarte Shape Tape (medium) concealer. Swatch these in the store. They do get darker, so your really need to let them dry and settle (to get a true reading). You twist off the cap. It has a stumpy doe foot applicator. It applies well. It's creamy. That is where the fairytale ends you guys (at least for me). Here are the problems I encountered. It starts off creamy and then turns powdery. Its so weird. I have dry skin, so you know that doesn't help. So I used my Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base and applied it. It was still powdery. This concealer emphasized my fine lines. It made my skin look dull and ashy. Honestly I look DEAD. LOL Is this a Halloween prank? I could use it to play a zombie. LOL One positive ... I didn't turn orange! So there are a lot of variables. It oxidizes (gets darker) so watch out for that. If you have dry skin, it emphasizes it. Its powdery. On darker skin tones, it may look ashy. So that is my experience :( At least I have the cute packaging!
