Day 9: Paris Fashion Week S/S 2014

How do you feel about the Marc Jacobs / Louis Vuitton split? I think it was time. The writing was on the wall with the last couple of collections. Loved 2012, but after that it was a jumbled mess. I never thought it was the best pairing. Love them both, but Louis Vuitton is classic & timeless. Marc Jacobs is edgy & spunky. Marc Jacobs is Prada. Loved the jackets & tops in this year's show and I've never seen Marc Jacobs so clean cut. HaHaHa My favorite collection? Hermes!!! They're so classic & timeless. They ARE sophistication. My heart also fluttered for Masha Ma. Cut-outs, metallics, geometric prints, classic b&w...she did it all! Loved her collection. Then you had the softness of Vionnet. Gorgeous draping & overlay. A very pretty collection. Miu Miu had some cute coats. Other notables below and my wrap-up.

10 Things I Learned From Watching Fashion Week S/S 2014
(New York, London, Milan, Paris)

1. Stay NEUTRAL! Neutrals are BIG! Load up on black & white designs. It doesn't matter if it's all white, all black or a combination of each. Black & white is IN. Blushes & beige's are also popular.

2. Embellish Me! Whether on tops, sweaters, skirts, jackets, purses or shoes, sparkly embellishments will add just the right touch to an outfit. Can anyone say JCrew chandelier sweater? hmmmmm.

3. Cut it out! No seriously, cut it out! Cut-outs and perforations were seen in many collections & designs. Cut outs are different from rips! Smaller cut-outs are even better and won't leave you exposed.

4. Leather is still cool! But hey, when is it ever not :)

5. Grab a pencil! I mean a pencil skirt! Designers have breathed new life into pencil skirts. Fancy designs, metallic material, and embellishments have taken pencil skirts to an entirely new level.

6. Metallics & COLOR - Lots of metallic material was used for designs. There were even metallic embellishments on designs. Colors that were shown over & over were yellow, orange, blue, red and green.

7. Geometric Prints! No, not geometry! Geometry in Fashion! Triangles, squares and circles fused together in designs combine for an interesting combination.

8. Dragonfly's, Butterfly's & Flowers! Wear them. Pin them on. They're HOT right now.

9. Welcome to the TRIBAL JUNGLE! Tribal & Jungle prints are still roaring on. So they're definitely ok to wear.

10. Lace, lace, lace. Pair it with leather! Wear it alone! Pretty lace pieces look fabulous.

Whew! I'm done. Thanks for reading.

  13. Really loved the Zadig and Voltaire collection. Very French. And was a bit sad to hear Marc Jacobs leaving, but you're right. It's time. I think Ghuesquiere will do an amazing job replacing him.

  16. I actually loved Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton; he breathed new life into a line that had moved from classic and timeless to stodgy and improved their sales immesurably. I also think his work between that house and on his own lines really showed his versatility as a designer. That said, I'm excited to see what he does next. As for my favourite collection from the last days, it was Vionnet - I always love their designs :)

  30. I was sad when I left about Marc Jacobs leaving LV, he's done so many wonderful collections, but maybe you're right and it was about time since the last couple of collections have a been a bit of a mess. I'm curious about who's coming next as it'll be a difficult task to maintain Marc Jacob's style.
    Vionnet had really beautiful designs!
Have a very sweet week, Kim!

  33. Hermes has so many beautiful pieces and I love anything tropical inspired. I don't want to see more ab show.. I think I am tired of this trend. I don't really mind seeing Marc Jacobs move away from Louis Vuitton. I think he was doing too many things and I'm surprised he has that kind of energy. Also, his design philosophy didn't match LV design philosophy like you said so I guess it doesn't matter :)
