Tatcha Classic Rice Enzyme Powder, Moisture Rich Silk Cream, Dewy Skin Mist & One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil Review and Swatches

I purchased Tatcha's Bestsellers Skincare Set ($59) from Sephora around the end of last year. I've been interested in the Tatcha brand ever since I won some Tatcha Japanese Beauty (Blotting) Papers from fellow friend & blogger Rowena of Rolala Loves blog. Even though I'm not oily (dry skin), I was very impressed with how well the papers absorbed oil. I decided to follow Tatcha on Snapchat to learn a little more about the company and I was charmed by their Geisha inspired ... "ritualistic" ... philosophy to skincare. This set is no longer available at Sephora, but Tatcha has put together sample skincare sets SPECIFIC to your SKIN TYPE (sensitive, dry, oily, normal). All skincare sets are $59. Tatcha is definitely HIGH END SKINCARE. Their cleansers alone are $65. My beloved REN cleanser is $28. So I'm happy they have put together these SAMPLE KITS so consumers can try them without breaking their bank accounts. I remember way before I started blogging, spending a s*itload on the entire La Mer skincare system only to find out it didn't do a thing for my skin. LOL It didn't hurt it, but there were NO benefits. I've been cautious ever since. So read below to find out my feelings on Tatcha and if I will switch from my beloved REN Skincare. Also let me know if you've tried anything from Tatcha.

The Packaging

The packaging for Tatcha (even these deluxe samples) are as serious as their prices. They definitely do not skimp and there is nothing flimsy about them. All the packaging has a hard, plastic-glass like feel to them. They're sleek and feel high end. They will definitely display beautifully in your bathroom. I also love the purple, gold & white frosted color scheme to their entire skincare collection.

The Products

Tatcha Classic Rice Enzyme Powder

(The Full Size Cleanser is $65) - Supersweet

In this box, the Classic Rice Enzyme Powder was included. The Classic Rice Enzyme Cleanser is for Normal to Dry Skin. I want you to realize, they have three (3) other cleansers (shown below): Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder for (Sensitive Skin), Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder (Dry Skin) and The Deep Polish Rice Enzyme Powder (Normal to Oily Skin). All of these cleansers are in POWDER FORM and are housed in a double-walled jar. The only way to access the powder is to slide a little tab located at the top of the jar. You then shake the powder (dispensed from a tiny circular opening) into your slightly damp hands and make a paste that you apply to your face. Tatcha recommends a 1/2 a teaspoon of powder, but I found myself using more to get my face clean. The cleanser feels really good to the skin and your skin feels cleans after using this cleanser. I have Dry/Sensitive skin and I didn't experience any adverse reaction to the Classic Rice Enzyme Powder. I think long-term, either the cleanser for Sensitive Skin or Dry Skin would be better for me. I think I'm going to try both of those kits to see if I want to switch from REN to Tatcha. But overall, it's an excellent cleanser! It's just finding the right one for your skin type and getting use to activating the powder.

Tatcha Moisture Rich Silk Cream

(The Full Size Moisture Rich Silk Cream is $120) - Supersweet

Tatcha's Moisture Rich Silk Cream is creamy and light as a feather. I applied it to my face and said ok, it's nice. But when you leave it on and feel your face after a couple of hours, you REALLY feel a difference in your skin! It's so soft, supple and moisturized. I loved how it made my skin feel. But at that price, YOUR SKIN SHOULD FEEL THAT WAY! HaHaHa The Silk Cream was great, but I feel my skin needs just a tad more (Enriching Renewal Cream). Just like the cleansers, Tatcha has a moisturizer for all skin types! Unfortunately for drier skin types, the price gets HIGHER! The Water Cream Moisturizer is for (Normal to Oily), The Silk Cream Moisturizer is for (Normal, Combination/Dry), The Enriching Renewal Cream is for (Dry Skin) and the Soothing Triple Recovery Cream which is recognized by the National Eczema Association is for (Sensitive Skin). There's also a Pore Perfecting Water Gel Moisturizer (not pictured) for (Oily Skin).

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist

(The Full Size Luminous Dewy Skin Mist is $48) Sweet

I don't have that much experience with skin mists, but Tatch's Luminous Dewy Skin Mist is how all should be! LOL I've had mists to spray too "hard", leaving your face a wet mess. I've had them spray like water only to dissipate as quickly as you've sprayed. Tatcha's sprays like a very fine delicate mist of water. However it turns into what feels like an essence once on the skin. It provides ample, light hydration. I really liked it. I only tested this on bare skin and by the time I wanted to test it with makeup I unfortunately ran out. So I can't vouch to how this would react with full makeup on. That is why I give it a Sweet rating.

Tatcha One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil

(The Full Size One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil is $48) Bittersweet

Tatcha's One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil is Tatcha's makeup remover. This was the only product that didn't float my boat. It's not bad (it works), but I didn't like the experience (let me explain). It truly FEELS like a heavy oil (and I hate that). It feels like cooking oil on the face! LOL BUT!!! It removes makeup very well and when you wash it off, you no longer feel oily and your skin feels soft & hydrated. So that's why I rated it Bittersweet. But I wouldn't buy this on my own. You guys know I just reviewed Clinque's Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm and I much prefer it.

So will I be switching from my beloved REN Skincare System? Not quite yet! Tatcha left me VERY IMPRESSED, but I need to try their other cleansers & moisturizers more befitting to my skin type. I'm just glad they have $59 kits so I won't have to buy the full-size. Some other products from the brand that I'm interested in is their Sunscreen, Essence, Face Masks, Lip & Eye Serum. So as I test things, I will definitely let you guys know. I hope this post helps you know a little more about Tatcha. I always like to share what I've learned with my readers. I just found out that they have really good demonstration "how-to" videos on their website. So those are interesting to watch. Have you tried anything from Tatcha? Their prices are SERIOUS! I need to find out when they have SALES! LOL

  3. Oh wow what a splurge to only find it did nothing for you. I've been wanting to try La Mer for ages but the prices have me reluctant. More about skin sensitivity though. Never thought of the possibility that it wouldn't do much for me either. Definitely need to look into samples before I jump into that deep end. I really hate it when you buy something and it's not great. You get left with a product and out of pocket no less.

  4. Ki, thanks for the heads up about these kits! I've been curious about the brand since reading about them on Rowena's blog, but the price has always been a deterrent for me. Good to know that most of the products are worth the price. That cream sounds heavenly:)

  5. Great review Kim! I wish I was wealthy and could use expensive products in my daily regimen. :) Their packing is so classy.

  6. I've only tried Tatcha Cleansing oil and I hate it too! Like you I find the texture is heavy and off putting and it actually caused me to break out.

  7. Yes I tried out the starter kit and also felt the cleansing oil was a bit heavy. I got the full size rice enzyme powder for my husband though (well it's sitting in NYC until my parents bring it!)

I shopped during Black Friday (20% off) and also got an extra $10 statement credit for using Amex offers so it was a good deal then!

  8. I haven't tried Tatcha products before. I'm happy to hear you had a pretty good experience with them, besides that cleansing oil (was it chamomile based?) product....and strange how the price is a bit higher for that cream for dry skin...but hm, maybe the ingredients are more expensive so it is justified.

Lovely review of this set, have a nice day!

  10. The Enzyme Powder sounds really impressive, and wow the packaging of these products really is super gorgeous! The price is a little bit of a turn-off, though I suppose you can't put a price on gorgeous and healthy-looking skin!

  11. I've bene intrigued by Tatcha since you tried their blotting papers, but I have so many skincare products in my stash that I haven't made any effort to try anything yet. I have to admit, I do love the idea of a package of sample size products that lets you test everything and see what works for you - and I'm really glad to hear that so many products work so well! I'm definitely adding the sample set to my wishlist.

  12. I've never heard of this brand before, but it sounds so interesting, especially since it's inspired by the Geisha tradition. Everything truly sounds amazing, but I'm most interested in that cleanser, I've never heard of one with this consistency before, so different! Thanks so much for introducing me to this brand, I'll have to keep them in mind and see if I can sample any. I hope you're having a wonderful week so far, beauty!

  13. Oh my eyes watered when I thought about how much you must have spent on La Mer products and for them not to be amazing that sucks :( However, this set sounds really nice and I personally like oil based cleansers too :)

  14. I'm not a fan of their products personally although the packaging is beautiful. Using jar packaging for moisturizers makes the antioxidants useless and I'm just not a fan of the amount of fragrance, alcohol etc. But glad you found products that worked for you!

  16. I haven't tried any Tatcha products, apart from the blotting papers, which are the most pricey blotting papers I ever bought. I'd love to try more from the brand, it definitely sounds interesting. Shame for the oil though x

  17. It's good you were able to get ahold of this set to try out some of Tatcha's products Kim! Their prices really are $$$ and I think some products are more worth it than others. The moisturizers definitely fall into that category for me as well. I felt a visible difference in my skin the first time I used the Ageless Renewal Cream and I wish I didn't love it so much because it's so pricey. Their sunscreen is supposed to be really good and it's next on my wish list to try :)

  18. For a moment I thought you switched to Tatcha ! But I see REN is still the one you love :)
Too bad about the oily make up remover, like you anything heavy on my skin is just not it.

  20. I haven't tried anything from Tatcha and I just recently heard of this brand for the first time! This kit sounds nice and I'm glad most of the products worked out for you Kim! That cleanser sounds so cool, I've never seen or used one that's a powder before! And I totally agree that it's nice that they have these kits so we can try stuff out without paying the full price!

  24. I'm glad you had luck with this set! But you are right, these are not cheap! I like that they have different sets for different skin types. I think I have a sample of the rice cleanser somewhere.

  25. Japanese products are really very good. The products made for om rice are really anti-aging and improves the skin. Got to try this one for my Asian skin.

  26. I really want to try the dewy mist as I've heard its amazing, but the prices of all and the fact I'd have to order blind online has held me back. It's great they do a sample kit as that would be a great introduction to the brand. I wish we had a Sephora here!
