Diptyque Candles at Urban Retreat

Are there any candle connoisseurs out there? Let me ask you a question! Are all candles made the same? The answer is no! I use to think a candle was just a candle. It took me years to figure out that candles were NOT made equally. Some candles burn cleaner, last longer and contain 100% natural ingredients. Diptyque is an example of such a candle.

I learned about Diptyque candles several years ago. I was given one as a gift and was very impressed. They're truly a delight and they smell really good. Diptyque has a number of scents, but since florals are the hot thing in fashion right now, I thought I would feature a couple of their lovely floral scents. Let's take a look...

Have you tried Diptyque candles? What are your thoughts?
Has anyone been to the Urban Retreat in Harrods?

  1. You are right about the candle quality. I've bought a few cheap ones and don't think the vapours would be that good for you! One of my favourite Paris shopping moments includes accidentally spending £55 on a scented candle for the apartment we were staying in. I even lugged its half finished remains back to Brisbane. There was no way I was leaving that baby! On strict budget now until our trip in September so will just have to dream about quality scent candles! :)

  5. I'm obsessed with Diptyque - when you have a small apartment and are married to a chef, candles are essential - otherwise, our place would constantly smell like a restaurant! All candles are definitely not created equal, and Diptyque are the best I've ever tried. The scents are just phenomenal! We live near one of their boutiques and I have to hold myself back from going in every time I go by; the other drawback to having a small apartment is that there is only room for a few candles at a time :)

  9. Hi Kim,
I adore the Diptique candles -think they were the first to make scented candles cool / the graphics are also fab. My favorite is Baies or Tubéreuse :)

  11. Oooh I would love to buy one of these one day! My current fave brand is yankee candle - they aren't cheap here, but they are worth it. I find when I buy the cheaper ones they don't smell as strongly, where a Yankee candle can fill the whole house beautifully (open plan too so it does well!).
I prefer food or fruit scents over floral ones :)

  14. Diptyque candles are out of this world! The fragrance is incredible without being too overbearing too, but I guess it depends on which scent you go for!
They also stock in Liberty's too... you'd love it there too Kim!
    Happy Friday to ya!

  15. I have never tried this brand, but I agree that not all candles are made with the same quality. Like you, I switch my candle scents for the season. Fresh smells and florals for spring and pumpkin spice for fall :) Have a great weekend girl! Heather

  17. I love scented candles, but so far haven't tried these because I find them a bit expensive. I'd probably be more tempted if I actually got to the shop and smelled every single one, but so far I only admired them from afar and used other brands. :)

  32. Hi Kim, I love love candles. These are definitely classic. Did I tell you the one time I burned my bathroom because I left the candle burning and I went to watch TV? Long story...the alarm went off, firemen came, the corner of my bathroom wall was burnt. It took me almost 3 months to fix my bathroom. Lol. Yeah, I'm kinda paranoid about burning candles now BUT I still burn them. Haha. Enjoy your weekend!

  50. I personally do not know enough about scented candles. My friend gave me one Crabtree & Evelyn one and I love the heavenly smell that I could not even bear to light the candle. It is always in its lovely gift wrap and I put it everywhere in my wardrobe compartments that needed some heavenly scent. When I finally decided to burn it, the smell wasn't even prominent at all. I guess I've "used up" all his smell before that.

  56. You're oh-so-right, Kim, not all candles are the same and it's so disappointing to buy a candle and hardly be able to smell it. That recently happened when I bought a peach candle and the only time I could smell it was when it wasn't burning and I placed it to my nose! I'd love to try a Dyptique .. don't know why I haven't yet but I love to find candles that both smell good and have cleaner ingredients ... I'll be looking them up! xoxo ~S

  68. Oh I LOVE Dipytique candles. I've only recently started burning their candles, the downside for me is since no stores stock them over here I have to rely on internet descriptions when making purchases. I love how strong the fragrance is, even when you're not burning it the room still have a slight perfume to it. Before Dipytique I was burning Tocca candles. Their packaging is beautiful and their scents are heavenly too but now I find them nowhere near the same quality as Dipytique. Which is your favourite fragance Kim? Now I'm curious to try out gardenia.
