Happy Birthday, Dear Glamour Brazil

This is a photo shoot lensed by photographer Henrique Gendre, featuring model Isabeli Fontana. It appears in Glamour Magazine's Brazil April 2013 issue. They are celebrating their one year anniversary.

My eyes lit up when I first glanced at this photo shoot! Lush greenery, tea & cake, designer dresses, woodsy, enchanting & fairytale-ish...What wasn't there to love? Well...After really looking at it...HaHaHa...I thought some aspects were sweet and others...well...maybe they could've been sweeter! HaHaHa

What did I think was wrong? She wears that pearl headband in nearly EVERY shot! C'mon! I thought the dresses were very pretty, but felt some of them were kind of DARK for this time of year. It's SPRING! Lighten up! Next! Here's my perfectionism trait rearing it's ugly head...She's holding a slice of cake in her hand with the frosting side down. Who does that? Frosting in the palm of your hand? Cake side down people! Cake side down! I like the "Glamour" picture, but its kind of similar to a 2012 DIOR ad campaign. Ok, I've totally picked apart this photo shoot! HaHaHa Maybe I need to check my eyes. What are your thoughts?

  4. The best and simple word I would say is “AWESOME”. The concept and the photography look perfect. Hats off to the creator.

  5. Totally agree with you that the dresses are a little too wintery for my taste at this time of year!

  7. I actually like it, but I'm with you regarding the head band. The dresses are absolutely gorgeous. I don't mind that they're a bit on the dark side since it's an anniversary shoot and I think darker and more festive colours actually work better in that context than light pastels :-) As for the cake: you're right! Turn it round! ;-) Have a lovely day xo

  8. Hah, yes the frosting is upside down... too funny! Other than that, I like the styling, especially the floral and tulle dress. :) xx

  9. Glamour Brazil is only a year old... they must still be working out some of their editorial kinks ;) The cake with frosting side down, I can live with... it's weird, but it's quirky and the shoot has a bit of that feeling. The pearl headband, not so much. I don't like it on the cover, so seeing it throughout the whole shoot really doesn't help - it mostly has me wondering what they had to do to get it in her hair that they couldn't take it out!

  10. Haha I have to say I hold my cake like that too when it's covered in icing! Saves you getting cake crumbs all over your hand....and now I want icing. I used to just peel it off slices of cakes and gobble it down haha.

the dressers are beautiful, although I agree not very spring like!

  12. There's definitely a fairy tale aspect to this shoot, and I adore the dresses (although they are in darker hues than what I'd expect for a spring shoot). With you on the headband--too much of it! :) This was a GREAT exercise in mindfulness! Loved it! http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  13. I actually love the shoot and the pearl headband perhaps it represents a tiara which if we all could we all would wear it everywhere (well maybe just me) the cake not sure about it but overall loving the shoot , the dresses are amazing , Parabens Glamour Brazil!

  15. Wow she´s so beautiful. Love this editorial. Is there anything that´s better than fashion and candy (cake) at the same time. The dress on the last pic is my fav :)

  16. Hi Kim! Lol, I can get your point! At the first impression I could say it is a great editorial, but you are right, needs more colors and different kinds of style in the shots! I appreciate the last dress, btw!:) Kisses dear! xo

  18. Well, it *is* a bit dark, in a enchanted wood kinda way, but I do love that first black dress!

  19. Ha! What an awesome set. I love all of these. I think I like foreign mags more than ours.

  20. Haha, your commentary is cracking me up! I think the dresses are gorgeous but I agree that they're more winter colors than for spring.

  21. I laughed out loud reading your view on the photoshoot! I think the icing side down in her hand was weird too but I do love that floral print dress with the tulle underlay!

  24. I didn't notice her wearing the headband in almost every photo until you pointed it out, but yeah I totally agree! They could have mixed it up a bit. But it's still a really pretty editorial.

  25. Frosting side down! Who does that? The frosting is oftentimes the best part. :)

And thanks for reminding me that The Great Gatsby comes out May 10...can't wait.

  26. Hm, you're right, the dark dresses don't really match the background. I'm sure that cake is a fake prop, or else that shoot would get too messy. Great critical eye, Kim!

Haha, and that was a mistake actually. I forgot I had that post scheduled and didn't have a text written up for it. Its fixed now though :b

  29. Hey Kim, Glamour is one of my favorite magazines. I agree with you. I wish they would put her in more colorful dresses and the cake...I didn't notice until you pointed it out but yeah, I'm not gonna eat my cake like that. Haha. Have a great day!

  32. Hi Kim! I find a photo shoot very sweet and tender especially the picture where she's holding a bird in his hands, and that huge cake! Good deal :)

  33. I love the set and the styling of this editorial but I also thought the fashions could've been abit more Spring like. The one were she's holding the cake with the frosting side down had me laughing.

HAHAHHAHA! You are hilarious Kim. To be honest, I don't know if I like the shoot so much. I agree, she's got the pearl headband on in every picture -- bad styling. I also don't think she's the right model for this shoot. She doesn't really look young or fresh, which is what spring depicts for me!!

  36. And the poor bird! She holds it in her hand with as much tenderness as it were a Kleenex! I appreciate your constructive criticism. The cover and the dresses and ambience are great. I agree with you on the misfit details. Lots of love

  38. I like it, but I would have liked to see more variation between the shots, they all mesh together really, it's a bit boring. The headpiece is a bit boring as well. Love the dresses, but I would have thought they would do something explosive and use more colours too :) xx

  39. This is a gorgeous shoot. You know me with tea and cakes too! The black lacy dress is so pretty and the perfect fit and length too. Very feminine and demure.

  44. I'm in love with all the dresses in this photo shoot. I think it's common to associate spring with lighter colors, but I personally love black, you can never go wrong.

The cake... extremely random, why IS she holding it like that? Haha.

    Thanks for sharing, Kim!
