New York Fashion Week: S/S 2014

Here are my FAVORITES from New York Fashion Week! It's a MIX of well known and lesser known designers. The big names are always a pleasure to see, but always keep in mind there are OTHER fabulous designers in the fashion world as well. Look for them. Seek them out. I showcase many in this post. I bet you didn't hear about them for NYFW! But guess what? They participated and had fabulous collections! I also paired pictures of designers along with personal favorites from each collection! I feel it's important to know the names of designers AND be able to recognize them. I met a girl, who could rattle off designer names faster than a speeding bullet, but wouldn't know Michael Kors if he stood right in front of her (I asked her to describe him and she couldn't). Don't wear the handbag, without knowing the designer :) I encourage you to look past the clothes, look past the names and GET TO KNOW who's making them! I really enjoyed following NYFW. If I had to sum it up, I would choose the word SIMPLICITY. Nearly every collection was made of gorgeous neutrals, soft colors, easy-on-the-eye prints, classy cutouts and flow-y fabrics. As you'll see below, collections are VERY wearable! What are your thoughts on NYFW!?! I'm looking forward to London Fashion Week (September 13-17, 2013) You can watch the live stream HERE. @LondonFashionWk #LFW Facebook and Instagram.

  2. Fashion Week is like Christmas for me :) Michael Kors really stood out to me this year - it's taken me a while to come around but I am now officially a fan. I also love the glamour of Oscar de la Renta and the whimsy of Kate Spade, but I find there is something to love in almost every collection, whether the designer is established or new to me :) Great post, Kim!

  3. Hi Kim! You are right and you do well to feature also them all, big and less known designer. This NYFW has been really interesting, I followed the collections and what I loved most is the fact that we are going to see a practical and casual S/S. Donna Karan is fab, it was the first line I enjoyed, also love MK, Jason Wu, Tadashi Shoji, Monique Lhuillier and Ralph Lauren. Lol for that girl!:) Kisses dear, is time to sleep here so goodnight! xo

  13. I just started catching up with some of the coverage since it was showing while I was still away. i agree - the clothing should speak to someone because it's cool and fun, not because of the name! Cushnie et Ochs. Sachin and Babi, and Monique Lhuillier are definitely my favorites here!

  38. All of these Collections are marvelous. I admire Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier and Michael Kors. They are not afraid to showcase their design philosophy and style. Also admire Naeem Khan's unique designs.

  39. Dear Kim, thank you for sharing this recap. I also agree on your sum-up of this nyfw standing out for simplicity. The collections are adorable and totally wearable, which means more designer clothes to crave! I personally like Mr. Kors a lot: I watched an interview and I found him very practical and down to earth. In my opinion his past collections were totally wearable too, that's why he is so popular. Regarding the girl not knowing him, I think that not everyone is so nuts about the genius behind the name as we are, someone just enjoys pretty clothes and I think it's ok, we are not all the same :-) Today I feel very tolerant lol. Have a great Saturday my friend. If my computer revives (network probs) I will post about NYFW too! Mwah

  46. What a fabulous post, Kim! A great idea to show the well-known designers alongside the lesser known and what a varied selection of looks from neutrals and pastels right through to brights. So my favourites, most definitely the glamour of Oscar de la Renta and the wearability of Tadashi Shoji.

  50. SO.many.shows! I'm obsessed with Project Runway and always think they make fabulous things but then I see this and I'm like "oh yeah..THIS is why they're [Michael Kors & all the rest] the stars."

PS - Do you ever watch Project Runway? Michael Kors used to be a judge & I looooved him. He came back as a guest judge this season & I just miss him on there so much!
