My Skincare Regimen ~ Part 1

Happy Tuesday Everybody! A couple of my bloggie buddies asked me to blog about my skin care regimen. So I decided to do a short mini-series about it this week.

I'll keep the posts short, so that it's not overwhelming.

Not only will I focus on my face, but my body as well. Skin encompasses your entire body and you should take care of it all. So here's mine...

Get Clean!
I love body wash, salts, scrubs and bath bombs, but for me it's important to be CLEAN before using all of that stuff.

Many people are not a fan of soap for really good reasons. However, my grandmother used Ivory soap and maintained beautiful, soft and supple skin all her life. She would use it all over and then moisturize. My mom had surgery several years ago and her surgeon recommended Dial WHITE anti-bacterial deodorant soap. I tried it and loved it. It's the only soap I've used for several years now. I haven't had a cold in a really long time (knock-on-wood hahaha). So I INITIALLY wash my body and face (yes face!) with it everyday and night.

I THEN use my favorite body wash. Currently my favorite body washes are products from Earthsavers, Philosophy, and Vitabath.

Digging Deep!

After cleaning my face with Dial White Soap, I use Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser which was recommended by my Dermatologist. Local drugstores and my sponsor SkincareRx carries it. It's awesome and I highly recommend it!

I've spent years trying expensive and inexpensive cleansers (mary kay, noxzema, neutrogena, clearasil, clarins, clinique, spent a load of money on la mer etc.) and NONE of them (for me) compared to Cetaphil, which is truly inexpensive compared to the rest. I have sensitive skin and it really works for me.

Try using a WHITE WASHCLOTH  when washing your face to make sure you're getting all of your make-up off. If you really want to make your pores happy and dig out the gunk that's in them use a Clarisonic. I have a Clarisonic Mia. I want to purchase the Clarisonic Plus for my entire body. Again, I have sensitive skin and it doesn't bother me. It's an excellent investment if you want clean and clear skin. You can purchase it on SkinCareRx and many other places. Yep, that's me without makeup (birthmark dot on my forehead) and MY hair is finally growing out (from a salon hair catastrophe hahaha) So that was Part 1! Part 2 will be tomorrow! Have a great day!

  2. Thanks for sharing your regimen with us, Kim! It's interesting that you use a bar soap because they're usually very drying, but you have excellent skin, so I know it's working!

  4. I totally agree with you on being clean before anything else! My favorite soap which I use on my face as well is, Shea Moisture. I like the coconut vanilla bar soap. I use St. Ives exfoliating apricot wash twice a week on my face. At night I prefer to use Simple cleansing wipes and then a little alcohol on a cotton ball. All of that is followed by Neutrogena oil free moisturizer. Whew. We do a lot of work!! hahahaha

I've never used bar soap to wash before...is it good for sensitive skin? I feel like whenever I use bar soap to wash my hands they always dried out :(

  8. This is motivating. I wish I had a skin care regimen. My problem is, for the past ten years, I've always had a really clear face. I can honestly count on my hand how many zits I have gotten in the past ten years. BUT, most of those zits came about because of skin-related products. Like, every time I try a face cream or pore cleanser, the zits pop up and I completely freak out and stop using the product.

    Is that normal?!

  9. I just started using it, but I LOVE Clinique's Acne system. I've been using it religiously!

  13. I never thought that this clarisonic brush worked..I also have sensitive skin so it scared me to use it. Does it help with blackheads?

The fact that you can laugh about a "salon hair catastrophe" is wonderful. My hero!

  14. Thanks for sharing Kim! I've been dying to try Cetaphil because everyone here in the blogger world keeps talking it up. I really need to. But I'm currently on a LUSH kick, and right now my favorite cleanser is Ultrabland, which I just reviewed! Also, I just bought another cleanser from there called Dark Angels which is supposed to help with acne and blackheads, and I've been using it for a few days and it seems to be working nicely. ;)

  20. Thanks for sharing your beauty regime Kim! I like Cetaphil too but the gentle cleanser for all skin types sometimes makes me break out! So I prefer to stick to Clinique's facial wash for oily skin!

  21. cetaphil is what was reccomended to us for our baby too! i've never used it before but am kind of excited to try it out.

  22. You must be one of the only few people left using bar soap but reading what you wrote about this bar soap, it does sound promising.

I'm currently trying out an oil cleansing regime. It isn't a daily thing so I'm not sure about it working as yet.

  23. Thank you for sharing your cleaning routine. I have been using Mary K's Timewise for years now but I noticed a big change when i started eating healthier.

  27. Interesting post with a few products I haven't heard of in the UK. I love Dermalogica shower gels and Clinique face wash but I do like the feel of an actual bar of soap - for me it's Clinique for my face and Dove for the rest of me!!

  28. I also switched to using Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser and I LOVE IT so far. My skin had to get adjusted to it. I use my Olay 7 signs of aging facial wash when I feel my skin has too much oil on it. Great post.

  29. I've always heard great things about Cetaphil, I might have to switch from baby wipes to it. I've been wanting to purchase a Clarisonic for a while now but I was afraid it would be too abrasive, good to know it's gentle on your sensitive skin.

  45. Kim!

Thanks for sharing your skincare regimen!! It's always so interesting to read what people use. I gave my clarisonic to my MIL because it was still too much even with the sensitive brush.

And OH NO about salon catastrophes!! Those are the worst! Glad your hair is growing out to how you want it!

  46. I love that you did a skincare post! I have been have some skin issues and i was wondering if its the new cleanser I tried out. The one you use sounds amazing and I would never think to use a cleansing device. I can't wait to see part deux. ;) I will def try out some of the things you mentioned i.e. washing with soap first and the wash cloth idea.

  48. I love my Clarisonic Mia! I used to use it daily, but now I'm down to once or twice a week. Cetaphil is a great gentle cleanser! But I personally like using Philosophy's Purity for my daily cleansing :)

  49. I have the Clarisonic Mia too. I have normal skin but I bought the sensitive skin brush by accident. Yes, I wasn't paying attention. Anyway, I need to change the brush and I'm just curious if there's any difference between the brushes. I'm very happy with my sensitive skin brush.
