Met Gala 2015 I China Through The Looking Glass

These were my favorites from the 2015 Met Gala. I really loved all of the red that was on the red carpet. In particular, Amal Clooney, Helen Mirren and Reese Witherspoon's gowns. I am a big fan of Gong Li! She's an amazing actress. I first learned about her through the movies 'Memoirs of a Geisha" and 'Curse of the Golden Flower'. She looked absolutely stunning and the back of her dress was gorgeous. I felt Asian actresses as a whole looked great. I'm unfamiliar with many of them, so I really want to learn more about their careers. I was disappointed in many looks, but I won't ramble on. Everyone expresses their own style. That's what makes fashion so interesting. But personally, I don't think you have to let everything hang out to be sexy or get noticed. Oh, I couldn't resist! HaHaHa Did you have any favorites? Any disappointments? (Sources: US Weekly, Huffington Post, Style.com, Eonline, Rolala Loves Blog).

Amal Clooney (John Galliano for Maison Margiela), Gigi Hadid (DVF), Helen Mirren (Dolce & Gabbana), Hannah Davis (J. Mendel), Hailee Steinfeld (Michael Kors)
Reese Witherspoon (Jason Wu), Claire Danes (Valentino), Vanessa Hudgens (H&M),
Zendaya (Fausto Puglisi), Gabrielle Union (Zac Posen)

Zhang Ziyi (Carolina Herrera), Amanda Seyfried (Givenchy), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Roland Mouret),
Tang Wei (Burberry Prorsum), Selena Gomez (Vera Wang)

Ni Ni (Ralph Lauren), Fan Bingbing (Christopher Bu), Gong Li (Roberto Cavalli),
Zhao Wei (Michael Kors), Gao Yuanyuan (Michael Kors)

  3. Great post kim I agree with you no need to expose so much to make a statement sometime it comes across trashy instead of classy but some designer want to break the rules and some stars are the same. Helen Mirren for her age always stunning I hope I will be like that when I get there. Reese Witherspoon elegant Selena Gomez love that dress and the head piece. The asian ladies all beautiful their dresses rock.

  4. I quite love this yellow number at the bottom and the one next to her as well...Ni Ni and Fan BingBing...they look amazing. Actually the whole row looks amazing and I love how they carry themselves with such confidence. I wouldn't say no to owning any of the dresses really, haha :)) I just love that yellow number though, so happy :) xx

  5. I agree with you Kim, classical elegance is always going to be a look I admire more than something risqué and daring. But like you said, different things for different people :)

You picked some lovely ladies and outfits here :)

  7. Kim, I was just writing in Rowena's blog how I loved how all the Asian actresses looked. So so classy. I hated the ones by Beyonce, Kim K and Rihanna, but also loved SJP's look, coz she can do no wrong:D

  8. There were so many striking looks, although none stood out to me as much as Gigi Hadid's did. I don't think it's possible to be anymore beautiful and statuesque as Gigi! :)

  14. The Met Gala is always one of my favorites for the gowns since celebrities can really take risks. There are many gorgeous elegant pieces. However my favorite since I want to see more unique than not was Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi. Although Rihanna's look wasn't too attractive, I heard she was the only one wearing Chinese couture which was a great way to interpret the theme of the evening.

  15. I just caught up with the highlights from the Met Gala's red carpet. I love your picks, although I loved that Rihanna did actually cover up. I agree with you and wasn't a fan of the very sheer and almost nude gowns. :) Great selections. Amal was my top favourite!

  16. 100% agree with you on 'don't have to let it all hang out to be sexy'. I mean seriously, put those darn things away. I much prefer sophistication and class and Gong Li is everything of that.

  17. I really liked seeing all of the red dresses too! I thought that the hat/headpiece that Sarah Jessica Parker wore was wild! I love that she doesn't take it too seriously.

  20. So many gorgeous dresses, I love all the red ones. Such a classic color. And I totally agree you don't need to let everything hang out to be sexy haha!!

  21. The Met Gala is my favourite fashion event of the year - but I have to admit, I notice a lot less risk taking in recent years than in the past, which is disappointing. It used to be a night when people tried fabulous couture gowns that wouldn't work anywhere else, and now it looks so similar to the Oscars, just with slightly more colour. I did love Vanessa Hudgens' dress, though. And Anne Hathaway's.

  24. I was also disappointed in many of the looks as well Kim but I'm glad my Chinese stars all looked so classy :) Gong Li captured the theme so well and she was stunning. I can't believe she's 49!! You should watch Farewell My Concubine if you like her. She was amazing in that movie. I thought Amal Clooney and Helen Mirren looked amazing too and I also loved Alexa Chung's pink dress.

  26. I totally agree with you Kim that revealing too much skin is not sexy. Might as well just go naked...ha. I like some red dresses. So bold.

I cook just to cook to so i totally know what you mean. I am so tired of cooking these days, no inspiration or whatsoever.

  29. Oh Kim, I may be biased but the best dressed of the night were the Chinese ladies from Zhang Ziyi to Gong Li. The set of Chinese ladies from your last group are all my favourite and they showed class and style.

  30. I was somewhat disappointed with some of the gowns, but OMG, Beyonce's was fierce. Her hair was out there, but she rocked that gown.

  31. I wasn't that impressed overall with the gowns I saw, specially Kim K's and Beyonce's. The nude dresses seemed more like a call for attention and didn't fit in with the theme. But I do love some of the looks you've picked here! I've never heard of Fan Bingbing but she looks stunning! I love her golden dress with the cape on top.

  32. Gong Li is my favorite Chinese actress, like, ever since I saw her in To Live. If you haven't seen it yet you really should, but be warned you may cry. I also think that the announcement of the Guo Pei collection by MAC coming out in fall 2015 coincided brilliantly with the theme of the Met Gala this year "China: Through the Looking Glass."

  37. I agree on your selection of faves. Unfortunately the worst dressed stole the scene to the best dressed with either too little or too much fabric wrapping them up.
