Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Limited Edition Eye Shadow Palette Review & Swatches

Mmm. Well. My love for Tarte's Rainforest of the Sea Eye Shadow Palette (Sephora) is definitely not as strong as my love for Tarte's Double Duty Beauty Courage Palette (reviewed yesterday). The eye shadows were very powdery to me. I looked at some reviews, and many suggested using them wet. Reviewers stated, they applied better that way. The shades are very soft in tone and pigmentation is fair. I found the shade Sand to be very chalky. The majority of shades in this palette are metallics. You also get a couple of mattes. None of the colors (at least on my skin-tone) WOW'd me. I personally like metallics on darker skin tones. The shades just seem to POP more. Again, that's my personal opinion. Plus, I don't feel these shades are that unique! The packaging is pretty. Beautiful purples, blues, and golds intertwine. The palette fits easily in the palm of your hand. There's a working mirror and it snaps close. But with the eye shadows, I'm just not thrilled with them. Many loved Tarte's Showstopper palette. This palette got really nice ratings from reviewers on Sephora...but for me, it's just ok. Nice, but nothing spectacular. Have you read any reviews about this palette? Have a great day :)

  1. The compact itself is gorgeous. It's such a shame that the eyeshadows themselves weren't as thrilling. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion Kim!

  3. The palette you reviewed yesterday would have been hard to beat anyway, but it looks like this one really didn't measure up, which is a shame. The shades look quite lovely.

  5. Great review, as always, Kim! I always look forward to reading your thoughts because I know that you'll alway share you're honest opinion. I know how much you like Tarte and so I'm bummed you weren't happy with this product. I can see the chalkiness you're referring to in the swatches, especially with 'sand'. It's also a shame because the packaging is so gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have an amazing week ahead, beauty!

  6. The packaging is amazing...too bad the shadows are a dud! They are pretty colors but definitely nothing too special, like you mentioned. I love the Tartelette in Bloom palette, such great shadows. Sorry this didn't wow you. Such a shame. Hope you have a great day lady!

  12. The palette itself is beautiful, so it's a shame the eyeshadows themselves are no good! :( The metallic colours do look nice even if they aren't the best for applying.

  14. This palette looks so so pretty. I'm glad to know you just think it's okay and nothing special, because I almost got this instead of the Tartelette in bloom, so now I'm glad I skipped it! And I do think this is similar to a lot of other neutral palettes I have. That packaging though is beyond gorgeous. I've been eyeing the rainforest of the sea twinkle highlight palette too, did you pick up that one Kim??

  15. Too bad it didn't work out because the packaging itself is really pretty, caught my attention right away. Terrible that the texture is so powdery and too much work to apply it wet. Thanks for the honest review. I'll be staying away from this one.

  16. Metallics can be so tricky to apply. The last palette you reviewed is so pretty that I'm not sure there are many that could come close.

  17. This is my first time learning about this one. The sand color is a little different looking.

  18. I agree with you that this palette has no wow factor like the other palettes. It is pretty cool toned too.
