Blogging is like wearing a pair of heels!

Hey Everybody! Happy Tuesday! I have ONE question for you! What do YOU find most difficult about blogging? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Below are pictures from the 2012 Anthony Vacarello show. Model Pauline Hoarau had a couple of nasty spills while wearing Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Two models came to her rescue and helped her. I thought that was really nice. (source)

This model mishap made me think about blogging overall. Blogging requires dedication, patience, practice and a long list of other things. HaHaHa Think about the first time you wore a pair of sky high heels. Did you walk perfectly in them? I know one thing, the skinnier and higher the heel, the harder it is to walk. HaHaHa But with practice you get better and better each time.

Well, the same thing goes for blogging. It takes time to establish followers, friendships and dedicated readers. We all start small and gradually build upon that. I'm proud to say I'm still in contact with my very first reader and commenter (Erica of Sea of Blooming Dreams). Thanks Erica! Blogging is also a constant learning experience! Blog design, writing the perfect posts, making a blog button, commenting, stats and sponsorships can be overwhelming but...

My Final Thought: ...Despite running into bloggers with horrid "it's all about ME" and "if you don't have THIS" or "you're from THERE" or "you don't LOOK like this" or "your blog design looks like THAT" then- you're-nothing-attitudes, there's ALWAYS a group (like the exemplary models above) that have your back, will help you up, and get through it all. Just some SHOE for thought! HaHaHa Have a Great Day and Thank You for being a reader of A Very Sweet Blog. I appreciate all of you. :)

First, that poor girl :( That had to be so embarrassing. But I'm glad to see a couple of models were nice enough to help a girl out! As for blogging, I think a lot of it is more difficult than it seems. Making sure you have interesting content, keeping up with comments and other bloggers, attempting to grow your blog. It's all much harder than I thought it would be but luckily I'm still in love with it. And if I ever start to feel burnt out from it, I take a step back. I never want to feel like blogging is a chore.

Chocolate Cookies & Candies said...

You're absolutely right, Kim. I saw the other model who just strutted right ahead of poor Pauline. Blogging can be an isolated and overwhelming activity which gazillions of things to learn. There will always be naysayers but thankfully, they're the exception than the norm.

i agree with you Kim! blogging is not easy.. its hard to accomplish something by your own and not just be like everybody else. as of me i just do what i like, post what i want and write what i think. i don't go to others and insist following me because i'm not after to high numbers of followers but i'm more interested to read what other opinions. i stay focus with what i like and what interested me!
take care. xoxo, Haus of Gala

Thank you for sharing this post, I think as a newer blogger I can understand... What am I doing wrong? What do my readers want to see/read? etc. Patience is a great reminder... xoxo A-

What?? That model that just walked right over her practically, that was well rude. It doesn't kill someone to have a little humility and grace to help someone else out. You don't have to stomp on others to get to the top really. Hard work will prove that. Blogging is hard, some days I want to hit the delete button, but that's when I have to just block every negative out and remember the positives and the people who make blogging worthwhile, like you and my other blogging friends!! We need to be a support system to each other really because it's the outside world that really want to tear your down for the simple reason of a blog - which is just silly really. I like that I'm steady building up numbers, I can still go to their pages and converse with them, I rather have that than loads of people that I know nothing about. There are too many blogs that moan and complain when they don't get masses of comments straight away (like we don't all have lives too) and that is the side I never want to be on ever! I'd have been so embarrassed if that happened to me, but could have laughed it off when the other girl helped her out!! Just hope she didn't hurt her ankles in those shoes really. Well, I have babbled on like a brook, so I will stop now!! Have a fabulous Tuesday doll!! And as always I am glad you are here and that I know you and your sweet blog :))) And you fell, I would totally get you back up & we'd have some cake and have a good laugh about it ;-))))) lol!! xx

Oh, I feel sorry for the girl - poor little sweetheart. Zanotties are actually one of the most comfortable shoes to walk in, skinny heel or platform... but I have a feeling this was probably one of those shows where all the shoes come in one size that doesn't fit everyone.
Same with blogs - I enjoy it very much because I can share my thoughts and stories with likeminded people who often become friends (real or virtual, subject to the distance mainly) I never cared about being popular or trendy because you can't be loved by everyone and it's more important for me to be creative in my own way than please people who don't know me.
I know that being a good blogger isn't about wearing a certain pair of shoes or having a Chanel purse, it's so much more than that.
I guess, it's about being genuine and loving what you do... and yes, as you said, learning something new every day.

Oh my God!!! love your blog, now following :)

i'd love to see more posts like these.. a complete article with relevance! that was my initial concept and then i kept adding other stuff like outfit pictures & more...

i'm very organized and consistent.. i think i have what's called OCD haha (seriously) so the most difficult thing to me when it comes to blogging is when i can't post something, when i'm traveling and can't access my blog, when i'm sick or when i have lots of homework and have to take a break from my blog... i just feel the need to post and see other posts.. the compromise is HUGE!

Jax said...

You are AMAZING!! I love your blog :) Your analogy is very true. Blogging is just like a pair of shoes. Some of them look hot, but aren't that comfortable. Others don't look so nice, but make you feel like you're walking on air. But then once you find that perfect shoe, girl, you're never letting go!

The hardest part of blogging for me, is not letting all of you down! Sometimes I just want to put out an eh post, but I force myself to constantly put out the best I can so you guys aren't dissapointed.

TheTinyHeart said...

I agree Kim, blogging takes a lot of work! The hardest part of blogging depends on the day...sometimes I have difficulty coming up with a witty blog post and other days the hardest part is coming up with a unique outfit.

Awww, what a nice post! Ok, I'm obviously not talking about the poor model in those heels (I couldn't walk in them either) but about the sentiment of this post. It's al the support and friendships that can be established through blogging that make it worth it... Have a lovely day xo

Jo said...

It's really nice of the other models to help the fallen one up. There could actually be care and concern in the modelling world!

The analogy of likening blogging to wearing a pair of heels indeed caught my attention. I would never ever have put two and two together but it made so much sense coming from you.

My main difficulty is the time factor. Sometimes keeping up with blogging really requires a lot of time and there would be times when I feel I owe it to my friends and readers whenever I stop blogging for a while. I always tell myself that I'm blogging for myself and not to please an audience though so as not to stress myself.

Rowena @ rolala loves said...

Great analogy Kim! I've never seen it that way but it makes perfect sense. Difficulties in blogging for me have been finding time and being able to consistently put out good content. When I made the commitment to blog, I knew I wanted to post at least 5x/week and I have to say some weeks it's a challenge but it's also been a good way to push and discipline myself. I like the blogging community as a whole. There are those who are very self centered and just care about getting followers but there are also those like you and many others who are wonderful and supportive who make it worthwhile. I've genuinely enjoyed getting to know and build relationships with my blogger friends and I'm so happy you're one of them Kim!

Awwww, watching this video made me get a little teary-eyed over (1) the probable embarrassment of the model stumbling and (2) the sweet support of her friends that we all so need. Love how you tied this into the blogging world, Kim. So very true! Blogging requires dedication, creativity, lots and lots of thought (and sleepless nights sometimes!) and for me, illustration. I can't believe the vast amount of illustration I've accumulated for the blog alone! Speaking of blogging buddies, I'm so very happy that we met. You are the sweetest, most supportive and thoughtful and as a cherry on the cake, funnier than heck blogging friend! Thanks for your sweet comment, Kim ... I love that you were inspired by that LV campaign too ... it's just such an absolute confection!

I really love how those other models helped the girl, such an act of compassion. And I agree blogging is like that, there will always be some blgogers who only want the fame and don't really care about others but for me, blogging is about friendship and is just like sharing your diary with your closest friends <3

This is such a great analogy Kim! I love that the other models helped her up! And what you said about blogging is so true, it's a lot like walking in high heels.

Jennifer Fabulous said...

Oh my goodness! What a spill! Lol.

The hardest part about blogging for me is TIME. And I'm not talking about time for my posts, I'm talking about time for commenting back to those who have commented to me.

Three years ago, I was getting up to 100 comments per post, and I'm not kidding you, it would seriously take me all day long on the computer to respond to each and every one. I was like a zombie, commenting because I felt I had to. I felt it was the polite thing to do. I was neglecting my job. I was neglecting my family. I was neglecting my boyfriend. My life literally revolved around being polite to my readers. Finally, after a year, I realized I needed to make a decision. I could stop blogging and get my life back together, or I could continue blogging and just not feel obligated to respond to comments. Obviously, I chose the latter. And while it has diminished my commenters quite a bit (I think I average 20-30 now) it has made my life a lot easier. I spend time enjoying my life, rather than wrapped up on the computer in the blogosphere. :S And I get around to my favorite blogs (like yours) when I genuinely get the chance. Sorry that was long, lol.

Sometimes I wonder how other bloggers do it. Those who have thousands of followers. It makes me dizzy to think about it!

Anonymous said...

Gosh hun, I can relate to your blog post here very much and I'd like to think that this little group is one that would indeed encourage and 'help each other out'. I think the most difficult aspect of blogging (especially initially) is to be always displaying new and exciting content, taking time to appreciate peoples feedback by getting back to their own and fitting it into our own personal daily lives. The latter being especially difficult. Its definately challenging but there are certainly big positives that come by it.....always enthused when I chance upon a new designer/design/collection/editorial. Being somewhat in the industry its important to stay on pulse with everything. Anyway end/rant. Hope you've had a fab tue Kim ^_^

omg, gives me tingles just seeing the photos, because i can imagine what she's feeling!

the greatest obstacle for me is time. i spend almost the entire work day uploading photos and writing posts. then after the kids sleep i'm trying to catch up on comments and blog reading. my work has definitely been affected and it takes time away from the kids, too. i felt like i had to keep posting to satisfy readers, but eventually told myself that it's ok to miss a day. or two. y'all will still be there, right?!

i still keep in touch with some of my first followers, too!

Such great analogy! I believe a blog takes dedication, focus and a lot of time to build into something big! I started blogging last march, but lost the mojo after 3 months due to family move, job change and other things going on life. But since last December I have made it my goal to be a BLOGGER!:-) Luckily I am getting great feedback and a lot of new readers everyday. It feels good after every post to know that I am perusing what I love to do on my own terms!

The most difficult thing about blogging is definitely coming up with original and thought- provoking content. It leads to fewer posts per month but you know what, it's better than garbage overload on my part :)

I love this blog post- such a great comparison (although I like to think I was always good at walking in heels-heehee!) and one I've thought a lot about. But I must say, true intentions to get to know others is key to get attentions from others =)

Well said and the pictures demonstrate that community and support can come from every walk of life.

I'm semi private on the blog because I received really nasty comments once from people who didn't even know the whole story. I don't understand why people tear each other down and feel it is ok. It is good to be constructive, but if you have nothing nice to say, just close the window right? I love the sense of community - we are just people sharing pretty things and pieces of our lives. There is something lovely in taking part in that

You have a very sweet personality that comes through your blog and it is nice to "meet" you through blogging!
