Amanda Seyfried: Harper's Bazaar Korea

I'm really loving this photo shoot featuring actress Amanda Seyfried for the July 2013 edition of Harper's Bazaar Korea. I could throw a rose to photographer Ahn Jooyoung for taking such soft, striking & beautiful pics. Everything seems to work. It's seamless. The dresses, set, styling and mood all blend effortlessly together. Connectivity! That's the word I'm looking for! I'm far from a pro, but the best photo shoots are when the model & photographer connect with one another. There's a "love affair" between them! There's chemistry! I think that's so important. The stylist and set designer are equally as important to a shoot. There has to be a vision, story, scenario for what is to be the outcome. Just like a puzzle, it's important that all of these pieces come together. If not, you get disconnect. You can always detect disconnect in a photo shoot. The result will be bad, choppy or thrown together pics. Of course, there should be some spontaneity in a shoot (a really good photographer knows how to capture and expand on those moments), but the majority of the shoot should be thought out. Some type of storyboard should be created. Agree? Disagree? Any thoughts? Does anyone have any insights to the pre-planning of a photo shoot? I would love for you to share.

  7. She look so beautiful! Especially the cover shot and on the very first photo. I feel it's a shame they gone a touch too far with retouching, though - she is so gorgeous she really doesn't need it. Thank you for sharing the ed, Kim. xxx

  16. I work at a magazine and photo shoots are planned out in that there is a concept, the clothes and accessories are decided upon, locations are scouted. Of course there is spontaneity too and a live feed so things can be reworked...and there is what happens in post. : )

  21. Amanda Seyfried is so beautiful. She really has come a long way since I first saw her in mean girls. She has such an angelic and timeless look. I totally agree, great pictures are totally influenced by chemistry between the photographer and model. If the model is not comfortable, or the photographer is not connecting right with the model's preferences or personality, things just end up seeming forced. It really is like art in relationship form!!

  29. Chemistry is so important between a photographer and model. I witnessed a photoshoot yesterday - I think it was for Vogue China or Korea - at the Palais Royale and you could tell even from twenty feet away that things were not going well; the model looked uncomfortable and continually adjusted her clothes between shots, while the photographer impatiently tapped her foot and glared at passersby {in a very public place, no less!} Sometimes these things just don't work, and then they get published anyway. No so for this shoot, though - I don't think I've ever seen Amanda Seyfried look more beautiful. Happy belated 4th of July, Kim!
