$1000 Golden Opulence Sundae

Would you pay $1000 for an ice cream sundae? Serendipity 3 in New York City can make you a Golden Opulence Sundae. It was introduced in 2004 (surprised it hasn't increased in price! lol) to celebrate the restaurant's 50th anniversary. It requires 48 hour notice. What is it made of?
  • 5 scoops of Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla
  • 23K edible gold leaf, drizzled with the world's most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porceleana and covered with chunks of rare Chuao chocolate, which is from cocoa beans harvested by the Caribbean Sea on Venezuela's coast
  • suffused with exotic candied fruits from Paris, gold dragets, truffles and Marzipan Cherries.
  • It is topped with a tiny glass bowl of Grand Passion Caviar, an exclusive dessert caviar, made of salt-free American Golden caviar, known for its sparkling golden color.
  • It's sweetened and infused with fresh passion fruit, orange and Armagnac. The sundae is served in a baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet with an 18K gold spoon to partake in the indulgenceserved with a petite mother of pearl spoon and topped with a gilded sugar flower by Ron Ben-Israel." (source)

My Sweet Treats: So, did you guys have a good weekend? I was pretty quiet. Got my eyebrows done, did some things around the house, watched football (those were 2 stressful games! haha), watched Downton Abbey-Season 2 (quote of the night: "I'm a woman Mary, I can be as contrary as I choose") and tested wine LOL. I'm excited to tell you about my cool sweet treats for this week. If you're younger than 21 don't read any further. LOL

Cupcake Vineyards: The week before last I was reading a post from Beck's blog Oomph here and here (check out her blog. she has the best style and is super sweet. we've been blog buddies for awhile.) and noticed a bottle of wine. What really captured my eye was the word CUPCAKE and RED VELVET. I knowww SMH. LOL So I asked her if she had any information on the company. I went to their website and they have red, white and sparkling wine. So I ordered one bottle from each category ($13.99 a bottle):

Descriptions of the ones I purchased:
  • Pinot Grigio (White) - “Our Pinot Grigio is full with a nose that shows hints of pineapple, pears and sweet lemons. The body is full and gives way to a creamy mid-palate, integrating tropical fruits with the vibrant zing of citrus fruits. It is reminiscent of a pineapple upside down cupcake.”
  • Red Velvet (Red) -  “Our first blended red wine for Cupcake Vineyards has over the top aromas of chocolate, deep rich blackberries, red fruits that follow through the palate to a creamy mocha finish that is unmistakable in its intensity and length, with a hint of coconut. It’s reminiscent of a blackberry chocolate cupcake with a mocha coulis.”
  • Moscato D'Asti (Sparkling) - “Our Moscato is vibrant and expressive with floral notes that dominate with hints of peach and flavors of tropical fruits and lychee. It is a soft and luscious wine with just a hint of effervescence to tickle the palate and balance the sweetness. With bright fruit flavors and finesse, it’s reminiscent of a pineapple right-side up cupcake.”

My Verdict! Excellent price. It was packaged beautifully. Arrived by FedEx. They DO require an adult signature, valid id and someone must be home. How do they taste? I SUPER LOVE the Moscato D'Asti! It has a wonderful taste and is bubbly.Your palette will love it. You will SMILE! I'll be getting some more of that! HAHAHA The Red Velvet is an excellent red wine. If you like a dry white wine then you'll love the Pinot Grigio. Do you have a favorite wine?

Garnet Hill: When you shop online, you receive a lot of catalogs at home. One of the catalogs I receive is Garnet Hill. I love their clothes because they're simple, classy, comfortable and non-fussy. However, they can be pricey. So my budget only allows me to buy stuff from them now and then. I'm gonna let you in on a little secret! So shhhh, don't tell anyone else ok. LOL As I was perusing their website, they have a Sale and Clearance tab. Click on it. Then look to your left and scroll down until you see Sale of the Day. Every day they feature ONE item that is heavily discounted. This dress retails for $98. I purchased it the other day for $34 (it's now on sale for $49). So what's the lesson? No matter what online store you look at, check and see if they have an outlet, clearance, or sale of the day link. You could save some money and get a great quality outfit. :)

Happy Chinese New Year Everybody!
It's the Year of the Dragon!

  7. The sundae looks amazing but I'd never pay that much for it - I'd be too scared to eat it haha! I've wanted to see Downton Abbey for a while yet, I must be the only person to have not seen it! The wine sounds so yummy, I love the sound of the red. xo

  8. That sundae is just over the top :D it's worth two times our apartments monthly rent, so... A bit expensive, right? ;D But it sounds delicious, though.

As for the wines, my favourite is probably Freixenet Carta Nevada (semi-seco), which is a tasty, sparkling wine, it's wonderful by itself, or with light food. I love it :)

Have a nice week, Kim! xoxo ♥

  18. holy cow! if i had a $1,000 to spend i'm not sure a sundae would be my first choice. that'd have to be some sundae!

  19. I think I saw this sundae on a tv show before, if someone else was willing to buy it for me, I would like to try it :)
If not, I think spending that amount of money on a dessert is outrageous! Rather use the the money for charity instead.

  20. Oh my goodness, that is one extravagant sundae! But I kinda cringe at the thought of eating gold! lol

  21. that sundae is insane!!

I've tried cupcake wines before, I love their name so I couldn't resist when I saw it at my grocery store :)

  22. The dessert looks and sounds amazing! It can´t get any better than that. The wines, I like very sweet wines, I´ve tried Pinot Grigio and was quite nice. I love Downtown Abbey too! Have a lovely week <3<3

  23. I would actually be a little scared of eating gold, so my excuse of spending $1000 would be on a new camera that I desperately need :) LoL... anyways, I totally agree on the Cupcake wines! They're awesome, reasonably priced, and tastes really good!
    Have a beautiful day!
    Good luck!

  24. The ice cream looks insane! It sounds good, but I don't think I would spend the money. Maybe figure out my own alternative???? I haven't explored many wines. I am guessing that I also like something a little sweeter because I like Pinot Grigio.

  25. I may be a foodie but I balk at paying ££££ for ice cream! The best restaurants I've been to are the hole in the wall places with the mom cooking in the kitchen, dad at the till and the kids serving the guests. The wine sounds absolutely yummy! You've piqued my interest. Now I've got to search for similar wines here.

And I LOVE Cupcake wines! I've tried the whites and reds, and all have been fab!!

So glad you had a nice weekend! Happy Chinese New Year Kim!!

  36. I wholeheartedly agree with Sam! I would never spend 1K on anything let alone a sundae that will come in and out, even if I was a millionaire! Sometimes the best food are the cheap ones, I love the $1 stalls in NYC ;)

These wines look amazing, I use to never drink wine but since starting law school have acquired a tasting for them. Thanks for sharing such a great find love!

  41. It probably tastes like shit - all these distractions kill the taste; they're just there as expensive space fillers and not because their flavors are compatible. I'm all for materialism and opulence but this is too gaudy for me.

I love white wine and zinfandel; the gentler the better. I don't have a favorite brand because I'm open to trying anything.

Speaking of treats, that Cupcake wine sounds amazing. I must investigate and see if they ship to Canada, anything that involves dessert is right up my alley.

  61. Moscato is about the only wine I honestly love. :) That dessert be crazy though. I can buy a lot of things for $1000 - it actually kind of makes me sick that there is such a thing. Somebody could be helping someone in need instead of dropping a grand on a sundae. Sigh.

  71. As pretty as it is, I think I'll stick to peanut butter ice cream. :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Even if I had $1000 to spare, I wouldn't spend it on that sundae! And I'm not sure about edible gold, not that I've tried it but it just doesn't seem it would actually be THAT good. I rather buy some gold to wear!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I consider myself a foodie but I wouldn't plunk down $1000 on a single sundae. A full meal maybe. Like Stacey, I think I'd rather use the money on some gold to wear :)

    ReplyDelete
  74. I saw this ice cream on one of the news flash a few years ago. Well, actually I'm not sure if it was the same ice cream sundae but the price of $1000 is definitely the same. The main reason for the price was due to the edible gold too so I'm not sure if they're the same coz you mentioned a few other exotic and expensive ingredients here. Probably an upgrade version? lol

Gold is actually tasteless. So I guess this ice cream is for the really rich people or people who just want some experience with eating a $1000 ice cream sundae.

I could buy lots of more permanent things for that price!

    ReplyDelete
  75. oh i have heard of this icecream..and also a gold leaf cake..i think it's madness spending so much on icecream or cake..but if anyone evr wants to treat me to those i hell won't refuse!!!
and the wine website sounds amazing! i love red wine..i prefer spicy flavours..

  76. Those wines sound pretty amazing. I'm a fan of any white wines, but I'm not really a fan of red. Although the health benefits of red far outweigh those of white so I may have to start making the switch!

  77. $1000 on a sundae... hmmm, maybe on a pair of shoes instead! I cannot go past a moscato, they always feel so joyful to drink! And don't get me started on Downton Abbey, I'm officially hooked!
