REN Clean Skincare: Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 Review

Not Sponsored: This week, I'm doing reviews on some REN skincare products I purchased. REN just came out with a face sunscreen. Its called Clean Screen MINERAL SPF 30 (Sephora, SpaceNK). There are chemical and physical (mineral) sunscreens. Read this post to find out a little more about both. This is a mattifying, silicone-free, SPF 30 sunscreen. REN states, "It stops shine, protects against pollution, soothes irritation, and locks down makeup with a natural matte finish. Powered by 22% non-nano zinc oxide, the oxybenzone-free, broad spectrum SPF delivers the best possible protection, guarding skin against aging UVA and UVB rays." They also state, "Our tube is made of 50% recycled plastic - the maximum we can use while still protecting the formula. And the cap is 100% recycled plastic. We made sure to stick with one-type plastic so that our bottles can be recycled all over again." I've tried to like this sunscreen, but its just not working for me. REN states its lightweight and it is, but its rich. A little goes a long way! As you can see in my picture below, one dot of this sunscreen covers a lot. This sunscreen also dries really fast, so I would apply it to one section of your face at a time. Upon application it initially leaves a white cast (this dissipates) and some tack (stick - this stick sticks around) and although mattifying it still leaves a sunscreen look (you can see it) on your face. When I applied it to my face (dry skin), the white cast made my skin look dull. It could be because of the white color and also that this sunscreen is mattifying. I didn't care for the stickiness or feel of it against my skin. I knew it was there. So I didn't like it alone on my skin nor with makeup. My makeup didn't apply well at all with this sunscreen. So I'm just shocked at this point, because REN always gets Supersweet and Sweet Ratings from me. I've only had one Bittersweet Rating with REN. It hurt me to give them a Not Sweet Rating with this brand new product. But I can't recommend this sunscreen. I didn't enjoy putting it on my face. The sunscreen that I am currently using and loving is by COOLA (Sephora, Amazon). It's lightweight. It doesn't feel or look like sunscreen. It blends into my skin and doesn't compete with my makeup. I also want to try SUPERGOOP! Another thing I was thinking, was that REN is made in the UK and they don't have the humidity & heat we have here in New Orleans. This formula may work well there, but not here. I'm desperately searching for a reason why this sunscreen is amiss. It just didn't work. Test it on the back of your hand before purchasing.
