A Walk In Audubon Park

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post for AVEENO®. I'm a 2014 AVEENO® Ambassador. All opinions are 100% my own. I received a 12 oz bottle of AVEENO® Daily Moisturizing Lotion and a $100 Visa gift card for participating in the #AveenoDailyChallenge. Come with me on my three week personal journey, as I commit to activities that will help me de-stress, meditate, reflect, and take time for myself. I'll be using AVEENO® Daily Moisturizing Lotion everyday, along the way.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Challenge #1 - Hop Off The Treadmill! Walk Outside! One way I de-stress, is by walking. I listen to music and walk on the treadmill (at home). Participating in this challenge, made me think. Why am I not exercising outside? Instead of always walking on a treadmill, which can be blah, Blah, BLAH...TAKE A WALK OUTSIDE! TAKE A WALK IN A PARK! Enjoy the sun, birds, fresh air, sights and people! Get out there! Please realize, most parks in New Orleans were damaged due to Hurricane Katrina (2005) and were not accessible. I got into the habit of exercising indoors exclusively and didn't change. One of my favorite parks is Audubon Park (New Orleans - Uptown). It's where I first learned how to ride a bike. All my school picnics took place in Audubon Park. I needed to revisit it. Well, it's even more gorgeous now. Audubon Park's walking path is 2 miles. You'll see runners, walkers, joggers and cyclists along the way. It has beautiful flowers, fountains, sculptures, designated exercise & picnic areas, a meditation walk, golf course, an assortment of birds, benches, rest areas, heartfelt monuments, playgrounds, a cafe and beautiful homes. Audubon Park is across the street from Loyola and Tulane (my alma mater) University. It's accessible by streetcar. It's an excellent place to de-stress, meditate and reflect! There's plenty of visible security and emergency stations throughout the park. I love it! A treadmill is fine & dandy, but when you have beauty such as this available to you, get out and walk (it's free!). How relaxing is this? Ahhhh.... Now, I just need to invest in some cute work-out wear! HaHaHa You know what you exercise at home in, is not the same as what you wear out. LOL Have a great Monday everybody!

  6. This park looks so relaxed and it is perfect for jogging! Personally, I go to the gym 3 times weekly before work, but just because I don't have time to go out in the park. I do it during the weekends though.

  7. That park looks wonderful and it's definitely much nicer to walk outside than on a treadmill - besides I wouldn't know where to put a treadmill in my small home ;-) It's funny, I'm not a runner, but give me a beautiful park or some lovely countryside and I can walk for hours without noticing. The fresh air clears the mind and listening to the birds feels like something good for the soul. Love the pretty details in that park. xo

  9. Hi Kim! First of all, reading your yday's post, Id love to say that you did so well to accept the challenge and actually it inspired me too. With the new and warmer spring I need these activities as well, plus that lotion sounds a perfect complement. Btw, you are my opposite! Love to work out outside, really hate at home! You have this gorgeous park, you havent to exercize at home anymore please, at least when the weather allows it. Looking too nice, I wanna be there!:) Have a great week, big hugs! xo

I am so sick of the cloudy days and rain here, it manages to rain EVERY weekend. Cant go do fun stuff.

  23. Ahhh, these photos are so beautifully Springy. I have seen so many floral pictures about I think I will have to get a few up myself. Challenge #1, leaving the treadmill, definitely gets a thumbs up from me. Firstly, I am so glad you have taken on this challenge and you chose the "de-stress, meditate, reflect, and take time for yourself" journey because I think everyone could use a bit of that. How lovely of Aveeno to have thought of something like this and encourage wellbeing. Anyway your park looks beautiful. I have to say, I'm very sorry about Hurricane Katrina! My knowledge of America's geography is shockingly and embarrassingly poor so I had no idea Katrina had its effects where you are, but obviously I knew it happened. Thanks for your comment on my post, once again. If I haven't said it before, I really appreciate that you read through all my drawl and take your time to add a thoughtful note. As I ALWAYS say, I think of you as a very busy lady! You say you have a busy month - good luck to you. Hope the de-stressing challenge helps you chill.

  48. New Orleans is so beautifully romantic. When my parents moved us from our home on Pratt Drive to Hawai'i, I was convinced that nothing could measure up to my beautiful New Orleans.
I was a very dramatic 9 year old. However, while I of course feel in love with my island home, I still miss my 'Narlins very much! What a lovely park Kim! That fountain is stunning!

  56. Yes, walking outside is a great alternative to the treadmill! I used to be a heavy treadmill user, but lately, I can't stand the thought of staying inside more than I have to. Walking/jogging outside is perfect when it's nice out!
