Terracotta Army: Legacy of the First Emperor of China Exhibit at Cincinnati Art Museum Part One

Not Sponsored: Hey Everybody! I went to see the Terracotta Army: Legacy of the First Emperor of China Exhibit at Cincinnati Art Museum. Cincinnati Art Museum is a gorgeous museum nestled in Eden Park (also here). Cincinnati Art Museum has a number of galleries and also hosts several national and international traveling exhibitions each year.

Outside the museum, is a twelve-foot bronze sculpture of Pinocchio by native Jim Dine! I thought it was so cute. People stop to take pictures in front of it. Its truly an eye catcher and very commanding. You can read more about it here.

Inside, there's a gorgeous double marble staircase that takes you to the second floor (where the exhibit was located).

Below is the banner (Terracotta Army: Legacy of the First Emperor of China) that was located at the start of the exhibit. The exhibit had both a right and left side. It was organized beautifully and I found it easy to maneuver.

The exhibit was about the First Emperor of China Qin Shi Huang; He was born Ying Zheng (嬴政) or Zhao Zheng (趙政). Let me give you some background about him. Rulers prior to him were called Kings. The title King was not big enough for him, so he gave himself the title of First Emperor. He never named an empress, but had numerous concubines and children. He ordered a number of scholars to be killed/executed. It is said, he also banned and burned many books. There is truth and some elaboration of the facts (you can read about them here). There were also several assassination attempts on his life. So of course, all of those things don't shed a very pretty light on him. He's known for some "good" things such as the Unification of China, The Great Wall of China, a national road system, universal system of writing, national currency, standard unit for weights & measurements and a CITY-SIZE MAUSOLEUM GUARDED BY THE LIFE-SIZE TERRACOTTA ARMY. He had a little anxiety about death & dying. Well, a lot! Let me explain.

The First Emperor didn't want to die! He feared death and would do anything to prevent it! He was on a QUEST FOR IMMORTALITY! His alchemists came up with an elixir for immortality. Guess what it was? MERCURY (mercury pills). We all know mercury is poisonous & toxic. He became paranoid, delusional and eventually died. I must mention about his death. He died "out-of-town". The Prime Minister didn't want to announce his death, for fear of chaos "at-home". So they dressed his dead body everyday, propped him in the carriage and if anyone had questions, they pretended to give him messages. You guys, it took two-months to get him back. He decayed. But before his death, he had a city-sized mausoleum built with pits and all! The First Emperor wanted anything & everything buried with him and whatever he needed to be great in the next life. He had 8,000 LIFE-SIZE terracotta sculptures made of his army to be buried with him. Stay tuned tomorrow to see them...

Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder Review and Swatches

Not Sponsored: Despite ALL of the rave reviews, it took me a long time to try Laura Mercier's Translucent Loose Setting Powder. Whenever I would hear the word Translucent, I would have flashbacks of ladies whose faces were over-powdered. You could just see the powder atop their makeup. Well, I've been using this setting powder for over a year now and I can see why bloggers and YouTubers rave about it. Yes, it is off-white. Yes, it is a powder. However, when applied it just seems to melt into my makeup and take any shine away. Now, I don't have much shine because of my dry skin but usually around the forehead and nose I produce a little unwanted shine. If you look at any one of my makeup looks from this year or last, I am wearing this powder. I highly recommend it. This translucent powder comes in two shades. The second being medium deep. There's also an Invisible Loose Setting Powder. I hear A LOT of people rave about RCMA's No Color Powder, so that is next on my list to try (since I'm half-way through this jar). My blog buddy Rowena of Rolala Loves Blog also introduced me to Tatcha's Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Blotting Papers (review) which remove shine and not your makeup. So there are options. I just wanted to add my two-cents about this powder ;)

Tarte Cosmetics Shape Your Money Maker Eye and Cheek Palette Review and Swatches

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. I get commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post.

Not Sponsored: When I saw swatches of Tarte's Shape Your Money Maker Eye and Cheek Palette on Leopard Lace and Cheesecake's (my blog buddy Tanya) blog, I knew I had to get it. I love neutrals and this palette is loaded with them. I think this palette came out the end of 2017. I wasn't in a rush to buy it, but Tarte has been offering a number of sales ... so I scooped it up. Tarte claims this palette is eye & cheek, but I see it more as eye & contour. The top row is all shimmers. The bottom row are all mattes. It's a series of browns, rusts, oranges, coppers, mauves and golds. I can see why this came out towards the end of the year, because it is geared more towards Fall & Winter. The pigmentation & quality for each are excellent and lay beautifully on the eyes. The contour shade Slim appears to be too dark, but it blends effortlessly on the skin. Flex and Cut work great as highlighters or as shimmers in the corners of the eyes. Tarte also gives you a guide to create two looks. This palette also smells good. It smells like vanilla. For the look I created below, I used Cardio all over the eye. I then used Reps in my crease. I then layered Tone Up over the outer V of my eye. I pressed Snatched over my lid. I used Cut in my inner eye. I contoured with Slim. I tried Cardio as a blush, but didn't quite care for it. So I used Tarte's Seduce blush (review) instead. My lip gloss (Beach Bum) is by Becca Chrissy Teigen. I will be reviewing her collection soon. I like this palette. Wait for a sale. It will be nice to add to your collection.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, Magic Night Cream, & Wonder Glow Face Primer Review and Swatches

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. I get commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post.

Not Sponsored: Charlotte Tilbury products have been on my wishlist for awhile. I purchased this Charlotte Tilbury set, The Gift of Magic Glowing Skin, during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Charlotte Tilbury's makeup & skincare is pretty pricey, so I felt this was a really good deal. You get deluxe samples of her Magic Cream, Magic Night Cream and Wonderglow. I've been testing it out for weeks now and I'm ready to give my opinion. My review of each are below.

Charlotte Tilbury | Charlotte's Magic Cream - Sweet
I've been dying to try Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Cream Moisturizer. The full size 50 mL jar costs a whopping $100.00. So is it magic? It's described as a hydrating moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, along with a host of other skincare treats I listed below (rosehip, vitamin E, etc). Let me share my thoughts. It's a marshmallow-y creamy white cream. It has a soft scent of rose petals. It lays beautifully on the skin. My dry skin really absorbed it. There's a layer left on the skin (transparent though). My skin felt very soft after using this cream. Very supple. It's a very good moisturizer. But for my dry skin, it wasn't enough. I was wondering if I would replace my beloved Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base (review here) or REN Ultra Moisture Day Cream (review here) with this. The answer is NO. Those two are better for my dry skin. Plus the Bobbi Brown is $60 and the REN is $57. I think Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Cream is really good, but better suited for Normal, Combination or even Oily Skin Types. I still give it a Sweet Rating.

WHAT MAKES CHARLOTTE'S MAGIC CREAM MAGIC
• Unique ‘multi-tasking’ anti-age BioNymph Peptide Complex encourages beautiful skin from within whilst fighting free radicals
• This multi-tasking treat & transform moisturizer features a secret blend of patented ingredients to give you plump gorgeous skin every day!
• Hyaluronic acid and wild pansy extracts seal-in moisture so your skin feels renewed and rejuvenated
• Rosehip and camellia oils and antioxidant vitamin E transforms dull complexions so you can get hydrated, youthful skin
• Perfect if you want to cheat the appearance of 8 hours sleep for glowing skin in a flash!
• Paraben-free

Charlotte Tilbury | Magic Night Cream - Not Sweet
I didn't like this stuff. I didn't like this stuff at all. The full size for this night cream runs $145. This night cream promises youthful, radiant and firmer skin. This is a peach color cream. It smells like vaseline. I was totally put off by the scent. It starts off ok. You work it into the skin, but it looks oily & greasy. I took a picture of both my hand & face to show you. Once you apply it, then it feels sticky & tacky. I waited for this feeling to go away, but it didn't. I don't like sleeping with anything sticky or tacky. LOL By morning, I washed it off my face and my skin felt soft & supple. But it didn't feel moisturized. So this was a no go for me and I can't recommend it to my readers. I didn't like it so, that I threw the jar away. LOL One night was enough for me.

WHAT MAKES MAGIC NIGHT CREAM MAGIC:
• Treat and transform dull, dehydrated skin with 8 youth-boosting ingredients for a radiant complexion!
• Winter Daphne Stem Cell Extract, Time Released Retinol and Red Algae Marigel all work to rejuvenate, improve and protect your skin
• BioNymph Peptide Complex helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and boost elasticity

Charlotte Tilbury | Wonder Glow Face Primer - Sweet
I really liked her Wonder Glow Face Primer! This primer can be worn under your makeup, over your makeup or on it's own. It looks like a gold non-bronzer. It has gold specks in it. It illuminates your skin/face. It gives skin such a health natural looking glow, without looking oily or greasy. I can see myself using this year round (summer & winter). How does it do blurring imperfections? I wouldn't say so great, but it does make skin look healthier. This runs $55.

WHAT MAKES WONDERGLOW MAGIC:
• Use the Wonderglow face primer underneath your foundation OR on its own for a relaxed dewy look.
• State of the art fluorescent core light diffuser absorbs UV particles from the sun and reemits their energy as visible light, illuminating your skin.
• Soft focus ceramic microspheres smooth over wrinkles and imperfect skin tone, creating an anti-ageing optical illusion for a flawless, poreless complexion.
• Anti-aging BioNymph Peptide Complex stimulates collagen to promote elasticity in your skin.
• Ideal for those seeking an effortlessly dewy look.
• Paraben-free
