The Toy Kingdom at Harrods: Out The Toy(Box)

Who Loves Toy Stores!?!

When I was a kid, I couldn't get enough. You put one foot inside and your eyes go bazonkers (is that a word? NOT! hahaha).

My grandfather would treat me to a new toy every now & then and I would drag him up & down every aisle, trying to decide which toy out of thousands I wanted. HaHaHa The torture! But enough of me and my childhood toy story!

On Saturday the14th of July, Harrods of London re-vamped and re-opened their Toy Kingdom. I wonder if this has anything to do with the Olympics? Hmmmm. HaHaHa Parents, hold onto your pocket-books and your sanity. It's a 26,000 square foot, busting at the seams, jam-packed, toy emporium located on the fourth floor of Harrod's Department Store.

It features SIX worlds (remember it IS a kingdom... HaHaHa) and boy are they something. They're listed below and attached are the descriptions from the Harrod's website. I think Harrods should've added a SEVENTH world, just for parents to escape. HaHaHa I can only imagine this place on a Saturday. Enjoy!

The Big Top
A fairground of circus acts and candy floss, with magicians and jugglers on stage surrounded by fancy dress costumes, doll houses and soft toys.

The Candy Store
A curious chocolate counter displaying a bizarre array of chocolate fancies and flavours, alongside Papa Bubble who makes flavoursome candy concoctions to order throughout the day.

The Enchanted Forest
Fairies whisper from tree trunks, while wigwams on the forest floor house the latest collections from Sylvanian Families and Flutter Fairies, alongside arts and crafts.

Wonderland
A colourful 'Grand Canyon' of Harrods' most exclusive and jaw-dropping toys (presided over by a giant dragon) is filled with Hornby train sets, remote controlled helicopters and Scalextric.

The Odyssey
A gigantic space rocket crashes through the floor and a huge sun bursts through the wall in front of an Area 51 inspired space and gadget zone, complete with alien space pods and limited-edition pieces.

The Reading Room
Choose from favourite children's stories at the rotunda of books, climb into one of the special cubby holes to hear famous voices reading extracts, have fun with electronic gaming pods and explore the world of Harry Potter.

  6. Such a great display. That photographer was very lucky to be there alone - knowing Harrods, the place must be packed by now. :) Wonderful to see all those toys and I am sure I'd probably act like a 5 year old if I was actually there (to my husband's embarassement... ;) )
Have a great day, Kim! xxx

  14. I want to live there. I can live off candy and tea parties. All of the stuffed animals would be invited. I could spend my days reading and furnishing the dollhouses. I would never ever leave.

  30. hi

great blog! One of the best things about the new toy kingdom is that custom-designed sounds have been created for each area, so it's a really multi-sensory experience - make sure you listen out for the fairy voices when you visit!

  32. I would LURVE to visit the toy department at Harrods! Can you believe that I went to Harrods just for the high tea and did not have time to visit the mall coz it was the Xmas season and the mall closes early? With this revamp, it would sure attract loads of patrons.

  33. Marvelous...I do love Harrods..such fun to be had here for any age, although they tend to get over crowded and stuffy, but I would have fun anyways :)))) x
