Piling on the Prints with Louis Vuitton

Here's Your Ticket! Let's Jump Aboard The Orient Express! This Louis Vuitton fashion editorial for Vogue China, came out September 2012. It featured models Tian Yi, Bonnie Chen, Miao Bin Si, Danni Li, and Ma Jing. The stylist was Candy Lee and the photographer was Stockton Johnson.

Perception vs. Reality! When I first blogged about this LV collection, my thoughts were it's beautiful but, gosh EVERYthing is SO over-sized and there's SO much print. How could ANYone (besides a really tall model) wear so many STRONG statement pieces? The hats are BIG! The shoes are CHUNKY! The bags are OVERSIZED! But somehow, it ALL works.

I appreciate and love the collection even more so after seeing it on these beautiful Asian models, because I would've never thought they would be able to carry off such a collection (height and petite). I thought it would OVERWHELM them! This goes to show you that size doesn't matter! What is perceived to be, is not always what is reality (perception vs. reality)! Also, confidence is KEY! These models exude that!

What are YOUR thoughts regarding the printed designs Louis Vuitton, Prada and Marc Jacobs came out with for Fall?  In my opinion, the Marc Jacob and Prada designs didn't end up as polished or refined as the LV collection. Do you feel anyone (no matter what size) can carry these styles off?

  1. These photos are always gorgeous and the outfits are really cool and artistic, but sometimes I feel like these looks would not translate into real life everyday women. They are pretty to look at though :) Heather

  3. Very hard to pull off the full emsemble, unless you're a model of course! But a few items? hells yea! I'd rock any of those hats - and I live in Miami! I'd also pair a print with some skinny jeans and balance it off with any of those jackets. I don't think you can go wrong with this collection. Now affording any of it is a whole other story for sure.

  5. Awesome post dear!I find both LV and Marc Jacobs' collections totally charming and unique, while Prada doesn't call my name. I think that as long as you have charisma and innate elegance, you can wear absolutely everything. Love love love Coco

  6. This editorial is fabulous! I had the same feelings when I first saw the LV show. Gorgeous but how could anyone pull it off. I don't think just anyone can do it...you probably have to be on the thin side but it's nice to see that shorter girls can make it work. Love this post :) xoxo

  7. That last photo is gorgeous! Loving the big hats and the deep lip colors. The train station makes for a good backdrop.

Again, diggin' the new blog look.

  10. This editorial is STUNNING. So gorgeous. I love the clothes. But they seem like clothes that I would desperately try to pull off in public and only end up looking ridiculous. Sigh.

  20. This was a very whimsical range to start with so I think the theme and styling of the photoshoot compliment it beautifully. I doubt that these looks would easily translate into reality...unless it was fashion week street style, anything goes there. Great pics! Love the new layout, its super sweet and pretty!

  22. Lovely clothes and the models look terrific. I'm not sure I would be able to pull off the busy prints though. One thing I do want to try from this stunning shoot is the make up! I love that shade of red lipstick. As always Kim, thanks for keeping me in the know of the fashion world.

  23. Such a good topic Kim. I saw it streaming with a friend and it was very off-putting, then I saw the ad campaign and thought it was really beautiful. But I don't think it did well in the stores and his new collection for spring is way more wearable.

p.s. love your little signature above the comments with macarons - so adorable! :)

  27. I adored this editorial and unlike most people I thought the collection was quite beautiful. I'm not sure about layering the pieces but I think they could be great broken up and worn in separate outfits. Total statement pieces.

Thanks for your super sweet comment on my Disney post! You totally should go in the fall/winter. I know you would just love the decorations. And I can see you working there cause you have the perfect sunny disposition for it Kim :)

  28. I'm not a fan of the bold prints, but I love the vintage style, and the models are gorgeous!

  29. I think they're lovely to look at, especially in a beautifully-shot, atmospheric spread like this, but perhaps a little overwhelming for everyday life? Some of the pieces would be brilliant separately though; the jackets with jeans for example. Not sure about those hats haha.. The best part about this editorial is its showcase of Asian models; it does help break the mould of Asians being small and petite. There are lots of very tall, burly Asians in fact haha, in this current generation especially :)

  33. Marc Jacobs sure has a great sense of humor in his designs and people are loving it but I'm not sure I would wear any of his pieces this season!

  37. I totally agree with you, I looked through it once and thought how cool and retro it is and I know ads and runways are supposed to be really dramatic, but this is definitely too much and I can't picture many women daring to wear this many statements at once. You put it perfectly and I love the setting of these ads like a modern train station.

Just emailed all my info to Sugar Designs. Thank you so much again, I owe you! hehe. I'm so glad I asked you about your layout though

  38. i am damn sure they are quite tall..enough to carry them..this is their way of styling it..we will style it our way..but this is one reason i shy away from maxi dresses which are too long..or skirt which are too long..love the pritns and all though!

  40. What a lovely shoot! I think the pieces are beautiful and the models wear them so well!
But too much of one print for me, this is the kind of outfit I'd admire from afar knowing it wouldn't work for me :)

  41. Kim, I really like this editorial - the models look so happy and are smiling so big, which is really uncommon for Vogue editorials. Thanks for sharing

  42. This is so great because it has captures a couple of falls' trends...opulence, Oxblood on the lips...and these Asian models do wear it well!!

  43. This editorial is so different. The clothes and hats are vintage throwbacks. Not exactly my style, but love looking at them on the models.

  44. Kim, This editorial spread is luxe and fun all at once. It makes me want to go to my closet and just pile and pile on all my longer dresses, coats, hats etc... Umm nah! LOL I think I might look a little lost in all those clothes and maybe a bit frumpy. Somehow it works I think best if you are leaner and taller. In reality a better idea to try one or two trends at a time. :)

Thanks for sharing this great post doll!

  45. Oh my...you weren't lying about everything being so...BIG! :D

    The hats are ridiculous! hehe

But I did so love the yellowish coat with the big buttons and the shoes! Clunky shoes were in style about 7 years ago and I used to love them.. hehe Memories :))
