Tim Walker Storyteller Exhibit at Somerset House London

Sweet Dreams Indeed! Imagine yourself in bed, surrounded by yummy, delicious, i-wanna-lick-the icing-off scrumptious cakes. Nice thought, huh!?! Well, when renowned photographer Tim Walker took a self portrait in bed, surrounded by all types of fabulous cakes years ago (2008), I knew he epitomized and exemplified what MY dreams were made of. For me, he is the Willy Wonka and Alice in Wonderland of photography. His pictures catapult you to another place! A place where even your dreams or taken further. He's brilliant. He's a genius.

Tim "bakes a photograph"! He keeps scrapbooks that are filled with magazine/newspaper clippings, pictures of places that he visits and anything else that inspires him. He calls these things "random ingredients". His mom was a cook and she emphasized the importance of each and every ingredient when cooking. So when he takes a picture, the people, the background, the costumes, set design, fashion, hair and makeup ARE ALL INGREDIENTS. I love that! He acknowledges that ALL of those components are needed in making fabulous pictures.

The Tim Walker Storyteller Exhibit!

If you're a huge fan of Tim's work like I am, Mulberry is overseeing an exhibit which will be held at Somerset House (London)  from October 18, 2012 through January 27, 2013.

The exhibit is entitled "Tim Walker: Storyteller". I can only imagine how fabulous its going to be. I can't get there, but maybe some of my UK blog buddies can.

There's also a book that showcases his photography, that can be purchased from many places (amazon, target etc). That would be a fabulous Christmas present. I want! HaHa

Below is just a sample of his unique talent and artistry. I also attached a video where he talks about what ingredients are needed to "bake a photograph".

Enjoy and Have A Great Day!

  9. OMG I loved this post Kim!!! (And I love your gorgeous site .. and your photo is so adorable! Tim Walker never fails to take us to another world, a place of dreams, fantasy, fun and glamour. When you were describing the scrapbook he keeps, I do the same thing! I guess it's needed for creative media .. in art school, they called those files "copy files" or samples of photos that may come in handy for inspiration or reference. My i-phone is also a scrapbook all on its own, as I've had to get extra memory for when I see someting inspirational that I may use in an illustration, whether it's in a magazine, on the street, at a store, a window display, wherever .. I snap it! I adore these photos of Tim's. Aren't the dress lanterns amazing? Thanks for stopping by to see me, sweet (a perfect nickname for you, by the way lol!) xoxoxoxo Sandy

  38. i'm loving ALLLL of these photos. im serious. inspiration for days.
ps: NOLA is my fave US city, and i went there 2 years ago for my bday and left a bit of my heart there... so one day you should make a video tour of NOLA--you don't have to appear in it or anything (i'm a nervous nelly about being on camera myself), just stroll around the streets so i can pretend i'm there. ;)

  39. Tim Walker is one of my absolute favorite photographers ever. I mean he started out as one of Richard Avedon's assistants. His images are so magical and I would just love to visit that exhibit. I'd probably never want to leave. I was lucky to win his Pictures book in a FB contest once and it's a volume I pull out whenever I'm in need of some inspiration.

  48. Oh my...he has such a unique approach. You're right..he does make you think of Alice in Wonderland. It's funny how he gives his pieces a Voguish and Alice theme all rolled into one! And I really like the pastel coloring in his shots.

    Soooo pretty... :)) Sigh
