My Brownie Story and Girl Scout Cookies

Top: Talbots (old) / Skirt: JJill (old) / Shoes: Coldwater Creek (old worn here)

Have you ever been a Brownie or Girl Scout? I was a Brownie for about a year. LOL Yeah, my tenure didn't last very long. I mean, I was good at learning the little songs (I still have my Brownie song book)..."make new friends, but keep the old. one is silver and the other is gold"...and I earned a couple of  badges & pins from activities...BUT, it was the outdoor activities that did my little Brownie career in. I have NEVER been an outdoorsy girl!
For example, they took us hiking on a trail one Saturday. It was so frickin' hot that day! Well, I had a canteen filled with water, but I drank it ALL within the first 20 minutes. LOL How was I suppose to know that it was suppose to last for 2 hours! :) They ended up cutting the hiking trip short. :)
Then they wanted us to identify BIRDS! We looked at pictures in various books and then they took us somewhere, gave us each binoculars to see if we could locate any of them. I mean, unless it's a red or blue bird, pelican or buzzard. All of them look the same (until I took a Zoology course in college haha)! Besides, I was more worried about the ants and mosquitoes! Oooh, cute squirrel! I told them if they wanted to see birds, just go to the zoo...they're even labeled! Yeah, that didn't go over well either. :)
Finally, they paired us up with Girl Scouts for an on-air television show called Popeye & Pals (similar to this video). You sat there, they showed you cartoons, gave you a piece of chicken, biscuit & soda (nutritious huh?) and then the television host would ask you questions (full name, school you attended, birthday, troop you were with, what you were wearing, etc). My mom quizzed me at home regarding the questions they were going to ask, because she didn't want me to embarrass myself on tv...I mean embarrass her. HaHaHa Well, the day of the show I got a little nervous trying to remember all that crap! I ate the one piece of chicken (leg) and the little biscuit they had with it. Got through all the questions, but I was still hungry! So I asked the Girl Scout next to me for her piece of chicken (they gave the Girl Scouts a thigh & leg). Do you know she wouldn't give me one of hers? How greedy!!! I was a young child that needed sustenance! HaHaHa  :)
Well, after that fiasco, I turned in my Brownie badge. I seriously had ENOUGH and I think the Troop leaders did to! HaHaHa My Brownie Girl Scout career was finished. Oh what fond memories! After a year or two, I joined 4-H Club! That was a BIGGER disaster! I'll have to tell you that story one day.

Oh! But there was ONE thing that I was VERY GOOD at! Eating Girl Scout Cookies! :) HaHaHa I wrote this post, because every time I wear this outfit, it reminds me of my Girl Scout Brownie days :) Have a great weekend everybody! Remember, make new bloggie friends, but keep the old...one is silver and the other is gold! It's ALL about Easter next week on A Very Sweet Blog! So be sure to stop by!

  1. Hahaha, oh man Kim, some people just aren't cut out for certain things. I guess for you, it was the Girl Scouts! Thats such a funny story though, and I love that you shared it with us. Can't wait to hear about 4H! ;)
Anyway, love the monochrome brown look. So pretty <3

  2. You are too funny Kim. I'm not sure how long I would last as a Girl Scout as well because I would totally drink all my water at once too!

  4. Love reading childhood stories from an adult point of view. :D Best thing in the morning! :)
We never had any of such groups here (too political, I guess), but we definitely had our fair share of hiking and skiing "in the wild"... I still hate both. My most memorable one is when they took us to the woods for what was supposed to be a competition between four teams. It was a beautiful sunny day and my mum just bought me a pair of lovely trainers that looked very similar to high Converse, but the fabric was patterned in coloured of autumn leaves (I loved them). So me there feeling pretty having to walk through mud and bushes and everything in between... Of course, the trainers got so dirty... :( It was a day of misery.
    At least something to remember.

Have a great day and wonderful weekend, Kim!

  6. Kim, I was rolling in laughter. You are so funny. Bless you :) I was a girl scout as well & a brownie and a bluebird & Adventurer at church, hahahah! I tell you, I was all badged up, if there was badge to get, I got it!! Miss Wilderness indeed!! My little sash had no room for any more patches. I loved it. But, I did not like bugs, haha. Pending on which they were. I studied Zoology as well. Though, I need to brush up on it all now, been a long time. You look darling, love that outfit on you!! Bless you...well no doubt you would get the friendship badge for sure!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend doll ;) xx

  7. Oh Kim, this post made me laugh! It took me right back to my brownie days - I lasted two years, but only because my mom made me finish the second year. My best friend growing up was two years older; I joined brownies with her but she moved on to scouts after the first year and without her there, I quickly realised I hated all of the nature walks and I really wasn't at all interested in learning to vacuum to earn my cleaning badge! I think I should write my own post about my brownie days, I think it could almost be as funny as yours :) Have a wonderful weekend!

  12. I only ever made it to brownies either, I don't think 90% of people make it past that. It's fun for that time, then it starts being kind of not fun. I do love your brown outfit - really cute!

  13. Kim, you are tooo funny! I wasn't ever a girlscout, but I sure remember that they would come around to sell cookies and my Mom always bought about 2-3 boxes. I thought that was grand because my Mom wouldn't buy any other thing from door to door sales people. My Mom's birthday is March 12th and they always came by to sell around her birthday ...so I think she would justify them by say they were her birthday present.

I am glad you like minty green, too. I LOVE THAT BRACELET!!!!

  14. I tried girl scouts and it didn't work for me, either!

  15. Ahaha you made my belly hurt from laughing!!!!!! I'm not an outdoorsy girl either, luckily the scout corp didn't exist here when I was a kid. On the other hand, I was sent to learn embroidering by the nuns. Their snacks were hardly nutritious as well :-) looking forward to hear your next childhood adventure! :-)

  16. I was a brownie for a year too. I had the top sales in cookies for the region, but then the troop leader's house got "robbed" so I never got my reward. I really wanted that transparent phone! Heheh.

  17. Haha! I was never a Brownie or a Girl Scout. I hate doing outdoors-y stuff so I'm pretty sure I would've been miserable. I do love me some Thin Mints though :)

  19. This post is SO CUTE!!! That Popeyes story is so strange! You would NEVER see that happening today. Lol. Today, kids would be given a kale salad and carton of organic milk. Sigh.

I was a GS too. For many years because of my mom. It was a dark part of my life lol.

I love your skirt. It's so lovely and subtle, which I really adore. :)

  20. Haha, I love this Kim. You're too cute! I was only a Girl Scout for a short time, because I had to move, but it was fun from what I can remember. I love your outfit. Happy weekend dear. xx/Madison

  21. Kim, your adventures as a Brownie totally made me smile. I don't think I would've fared very well as one cause I didn't like the outdoors much as a child but you could put a plate of Girl Scout cookies in front of me anytime :)

You'll always be one of my fave bloggie friends!

I usually pre-make 4 portions of my steel cut oats at once and then divide them into containers in the fridge. They heat up real easily in the microwave.

    Have a wonderful weekend girl!

They had some of the funniest activities, but she totally loved the camping trips cause shes such a tomboy and an outdoorsy girl. Don't think I could ever do it! I'd be like you :P

  49. I can see that you are just like me little borwnie, I was a girl scout for a while and despite I loved the song and the dances I'm not an outside girl also, the bugs are terrible and I also remember once I got lost on the countryside for a while with my group it was terrible of course after that my career as a girl scout was done.
How rude the just gave you a piece of chicken on tv! they have money enough for a whole taco bell menu :P I love the brown skirt, you look really sweet!

  54. Hahahahaha! Kim, you're the funniest girl I KNOW, I swear! That was so funny, I had to read it outloud to my husband ... and he was cracking up too! I was a Brownie only for about a year too but I can't say it was because I hated outdoors, I actually love outdoors (and it got me out of the clubhouse where our meetings were held and that awful half papercup full of lukewarm koolaid we always drank with a BROWNIE ~ for real!) .. I remember my little brown outfit like it was yesterday! I actually left because we moved ... but I must not have loved it too much because I haven't even wondered until now why I just let that one year drop just like that and never pursued Brownies or the Girlscouts again ... must have been that koolaid. But oh how I love Girlscout cookies! ( Oh, what we have in common!) :) hahahahhahahahahahahah still laughing! xoxoxo ~S

  58. The color of your outfit does resemble brownie, Kim. The little flowers detail is cute. You have a unique and fun girl scout story. I used to have a love and hate relationship with my uniform. It's green with a yellow scarf (that's what we wore in Thailand at least when i did).

  59. Your story really made me smile! I wasn't a Brownie but I was a Girl Guide (which I suppose is like a Girl Scout) I wasn't always too keen on the camping (cold and wet!) but did like the songs around the campfire and that special taste of sausages cooked outdoors!
