Benefit They're Real Mascara Review & Swatches

Comparing Benefit's mascaras is proving to be very interesting! HaHaHa They're Real is not a BAD mascara. It's a BAD mascara after two coats! HaHaHa I applied it once to my eyelashes, and it just wasn't enough. So I put a second coat on and STUFF started to happen (lashes clumping together, mascara on the tips, fall out, spider effect...you can see all of that in my picture below). Only use ONE COAT for both Rollerlash and They're Real. How are they different? From my observations, They're Real lengthens (but definitely NOT to the extent Rollerlash does) and there is very little volume. Rollerlash curls, lengthens and adds volume to lashes. They're Real is also much HEAVIER, THICKER and DARKER than Rollerlash. The Rollerlash mascara formula is much lighter and you barely see the mascara on the wand. The They're Real mascara brush is covered with mascara. They're Real is also harder to remove than Rollerlash (as many of you mentioned in my previous post). Rollerlash is water resistant. There is no mention about water resistant for They're Real (explains the black smudges under my eyes after a shower). HaHaHa My lashes prefer Rollerlash! I hope to stop by ULTA tomorrow to pick up Benefit's BadGal Lash Mascara. It's suppose to be volumizing (which I need!). So if they have it in stock, I'll post that review Sunday, so you can see all three :) I hope these reviews are helping you, as much as they're enlightening me. It's definitely showing me the difference. I have some other mascara brands I want to review next week (smashbox, tarte, soap & glory). I'm on a mascara kick right now. HaHaHa Have A Great Weekend!

  1. I remember getting this mascara one year as my birthday gift from Sephora! Yeah, I didn't care for it much either. Overall, I really like my Covergirl Lashblast mascara and have stuck with that over the years. Haha, once I find something good I'll stay faithful!

  4. Shame you didn't like this one...I can see more of an effect with the top one really any ways, mascaras are tricky. hate when it's a clumpy mess or my lashes stick together!! Will skip this one xx

  5. I do like the look of the rollerlash one more on you too Kim. Shame this one didn't work out, but at least you have the rollerlash to go back to! (unless one of the other mascaras you've got to review turns out to be even better of course!)

Hope you have a great weekend ahead!

  6. I really like the They're Real mascara - it makes my lashes look amazing but it's so difficult to get off and it's so expensive that I usually don't get it. Interested to try the Roller Lash soon though :)

  8. So interesting to read you comparing these mascaras! It's so helpful, so thank you! I'm eager to hear what you think of the NastyGal one. So far, the Roller Lash sounds a winner!

  9. It's so hard for me to find the perfect mascara! I hate when I buy a new one and it turns out to be a bad one. I wouldn't buy the "They're Real" mascara. And yes, you definitely enlighten me with these reviews.

  14. I never actually took the plunge to try either of Benefit's mascaras as I'm loyal to Lancome's Hypnose Noir Mascara, but it's been so interesting to read divided reviews on this one!! :)

  15. I have heard mostly good things about this, but never tried it. I think I will pass on it because of hte price tag. I am currently obsessed with a mascara from MAC! (I have a sample size and am afraid to find out how much it costs haha)

  16. looks like it's really working. I've never heard from friends about it (means they didn't use it as well). I'm happy to read your opinion, I need to get it for me

  17. I'm really loving that you're doing comparison post on all Benefit's mascaras, Kim! I have a love/hate with Benefit They're Real mascara. The one I bought was one of the crappiest mascara that I have ever tried but a sample of it that I got later was freaking brilliant. No idea why though.

I look forward to your thoughts on Bad Gal, I've read mixed reviews on it and more people saying it's utter crap. I'll sit back and let you be the brave one to take up the challenge of Bad Gal. LOL!

Have a great weekend, Kim! Hugs! xx

  19. I can't wait to see the review for bad gal! These are great posts Kim, and I think the roller lash makes your lashes so pretty! I feel the same way you do about they're real, it's just too much haha!

  20. I am so selective with my mascara because I am sensitive for some products. I do have a Benefit mascara that I love, but this one was the only one that I didn't really care for. The one that I received dried out so quickly. Great review Kim. Have a lovely weekend.<3

  21. There's such humor in this post. I love the review. And I can see the difference, too. If one coat is all you need, I guess that will save you money in the long run. Happy weekend, hun!

  22. Honestly I didn't like it at all. You know when it dries so much that it falls in tiny pieces?

  23. Clumpy is not good! I do like a mascara that is good with just one coat (for times sake) that looks fairly natural.

    This is my favourite lash!

  25. I hate it when that happens! I have heard so much about the Cils Boost by Lancome, girl the other day I got a sample and fell in love! But the price for the full size version, not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I haven't tried this yet - it does look like it lengthens but not to the extent that is claimed…I love your pictures and how you've shown the difference though - very good!! :)

Hope you're well - have a lovely weekend!

  29. I don't wear too much mascara, but when I do, I alway use my sister's method of layering - one coat with a mascara that lengthens, followed by a coat of a different mascara that curls.

Bummer 'they're real' didn't live up to the hype.

  31. I like a mascara that lengthens and adds volume. I've been using fiber lashes for special occasions but it's too much for everyday. Thanks for the review!

  32. That's helpful- I still haven't tried anything by this brand. I am yet to find a stand out mascara, they all seem pretty average to me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I totally agree. They're Real used to be my go-to mascara but the brush was too prickly. I love Roller Lash so much more!

    ReplyDelete
  34. You've picked up tips and learnt lessons from these 2 Benefit mascara. One coat is all you need! Thank you for the comparison, Kim.

  35. I have tried this before in a sample and it was okay I tend to use the L'oreal brand as I replace my mascara too often to purchase one that costs a bit of money. I have other products from this brand and find it is good but the mascara I will stay away from purchasing. Good review as always!!

  42. The rollerball mascara def. looks better than They're Real. Such a cute name...too bad it's bittersweet.

  43. I love the They're Real mascara, I get heaps of length! But I'll agree that the volume perhaps is lacking a bit. Also a huge fan of Roller Lash <3 <3 My sister and I have differing opinions on which is best! Great post!

We have done a review of the They're Real mascaras and eye liners, please check it you if you get the chance :) http://beautifulbedlamblog.com/?p=617 xoxo
