Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams Exhibition

Not Sponsored: If you are going to be in London, England between February 2 - July 14, 2019 go and see the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams Exhibition. It's at the Victoria & Albert Museum in The Sainsbury Gallery. Tickets are £20 – £24. The exhibit spans from 1947 to present. The exhibition not only features Christian Dior's designs but also all of the designers that have worked at Christian Dior. From the pictures, it is an exquisite collection to see.

Above is a portrait of the late Princess Margaret (sister of Queen Elizabeth II / daughter of the late Queen Mother) wearing a gown designed specifically for her by Christian Dior. Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother met with Christian Dior at the French Embassy in 1950. He designed this dress for her 21st Birthday (source Vogue). I've always loved it. It's one of the dresses featured in the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams Exhibit. It has discolored (as you can see from the pictures below) despite best efforts, but is still amazing to see. Harper's Bazaar Magazine currently has this photo on the cover of their February 2019 Collectors Edition for the V&A Museum.

Another popular dress that will be shown is a copy of the John Galliano dress worn by Diana, Princess of Wales to the Costume Institute Ball the the met in New York in 1996 (photos via Majesty/Joe Little @MajestyMagazine on Twitter)

The exhibit contains over "200 rare Haute Couture drawn from the V&A's couture collection and the extensive Dior Archives alongside accessories, fashion photography, film, vintage perfume, original make-up, illustrations, magazines, and Christian Dior’s personal possessions." If you can't make the exhibit, there is a book that captures the highlights of the V&A exhibition Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams. This book celebrates the House of Dior from its foundation in 1947 to the present day (price £35 / RRP £40). I would love to have it for my coffee table or makeup room.

A peek inside the exhibit (and where I found these pictures) can be viewed on the Victoria & Albert Museum website by clicking here. It's called "Inside the Christian Dior Designer of Dreams Exhibition". The designs look exquisite in the pictures, so I can only imagine how they look up close. I bet breathtaking! This is a fashion treat you shouldn't miss.
