MAC x Jeremy Scott Review & Swatches

When I first saw the packaging for the MAC x Jeremy Scott Collection, I squealed in delight! I had a flashback. An 80's & 90's flashback! Cassette tapes. CDs. Boom Boxes. As a little girl, my mom had vinyl records. I loved listening to them and going with her to the record shop. I grew up purchasing cassettes. I had a Walkman with earphones and a small boombox. I would purchase colorful blank Memorex cassette tapes, wait for popular songs to come on the radio and tape them. Videos were also popular at that time! I watched MTV & Night Tracks. For me, it was all about Duran Duran! Then I went into the CD phase.  I don't have any of my cassettes anymore, but I still have cds. Below is just a sample of my collection. I thought it would be cool to work them into this review. LOL So without further adieu, let me give you my thoughts on this collection. Tell me your music story below (records, cassettes, cds, digital downloads)!

supersweet(run & buy it) sweet(really good,buy it) bittersweet(ok, issues)not sweet(not good,don't buy this stuff)

MAC x Jeremy Scott CD - Cheek X 3 Acoustica (Blush, Bronzer, Highlighter) - Sweet
How cute is the cd packaging? I love that they have Cheeky Vol. 1 Mixtape written on it, like it was handwritten. The details for this collection are absolutely amazing. This "cd" contains a brown bronzer, pinky peach blush & champagne hued highlighter. I really love it! It's going to be great for Spring & Summer, because it gives you a fresh, sun-kissed, peachy cheek look. Everything blended beautifully. Why didn't I give this a supersweet rating? There should've been a Vol 2! This will only work for light to medium skin tones. There should be a second one with a darker bronzer and blush. MAC usually thinks of everyone. I don't know why they dropped the ball on this. Many people didn't buy it due to this reason. And MAC is known for catering to so many skin tones. Are you listening MAC?

MAC x Jeremy Scott Cassette Tape: Lip X 9 Future Emotions - Sweet
This looks and feels just like a cassette tape you guys! I'm going bonkers over this packaging! It's the same size and everything. I usually detest lip palettes, but I'm loving this one because it's small, compact and it even has a mirror. You get an assortment of 9 lip shades. Out of the nine, I only disliked two: Digging It (dark brown)...I didn't dig it. LOL and Happy Song (light pink)...not Happy! But those two colors may work for someone else. I found the formula for all to be pigmented and creamy. They're also pretty long lasting!

MAC x Jeremy Scott Boom Box: Eyeshadow X 29: Lo Fi - Bittersweet
When I first saw a picture of this, I thought it was going to be SO BIG! Like the OLD boomboxes that people carried on their shoulders LOL. I think others felt the same way. NO WORRIES! IT'S THE SIZE OF A BOOK (see below) and very slim. This boom box has 29 eyeshadows in it and it also contains a mirror.  I forgot to mention that ALL the packaging have magnetic closures. So that's good. The packaging is super cute. Love the realism of the boom box, with the speakers, record, play, fast forward and rewind buttons. There's even a depiction of a volume, balance & tone button. The formula for the eye shadows are hit & miss. You just don't have excellent quality here. I felt some were not pigmented, chalky, powdery. Others were ok. Applying them was very challenging for me. This costs too much for the shadows to be sub-par. Other than that, I was very pleased with the collection and have no regrets about purchasing these. I love the nostalgia.

Oh man! Kim, I want all of these just for the packaging! I really want that Cheek x 3 palette. And can you imagine if that boom box is actually the size of a real one?!?! I DIE! :D And talk about deja vu. I had some of those CDs you have....LOLZ....

Oh my goodness, Kim - the packaging on this collection is amazing! I remember all of the packages they've imitated and it brought such a smile to my face. The colours, mostly, aren't what I would normally choose, but the packaging alone would make a purchase feel worth it for me. Jeremy Scott and MAC hit it out of the park with the collaboration!

Okay I LOVE the packaging on these. It's a shame that the products didn't get the highest rating from yourself Kim, but these are so cute that I don't think that matters too much, haha!

I just went through the last of my CD collection the other week to donate it all - I kept some sentimental CDs/DVDs of home movies but got rid of the music. I don't know what happened to my vinyl 'collection' from when I was a kid but I know when we did a big clear out a while back I got rid of my cassettes!

Hope you had a nice weekend! We spent some time with visiting family, it was wonderful :)

Brilliant packaging! This brings me back to my childhood too. I have the Prince and No Doubt CDs in my collection he shows here. :) Mixed tapes were so fun to make. I used to record MTV videos too. The old days! The vibrant lip colors are so pretty.

I have always thought this guy is a genius in the simplest of ways. I absolutely LOVE the packaging !!!!!! The cassette tape one is my fave. Too bad the eye shadows did not deliver.

The packaging of this collection really attracts me, what a walk down memory lane. Shame that the eyeshadows were a mixed quality bunch though.

You're right, these would be worth a buy for the packaging itself. Perfect for those of us who grew up listening to cassettes and CDs. I can see who you don't regret your purchases even if two of three were disappointing.

First, the CD packaging...I can't believe how real it looks. Shame that MAC didn't cater to all skin types, including only light to medium skin types, though.

The cassette lip palette is adorable. I don't think I ever had a lip palette but this one looks really practical because it is small and comes with a mirror. A good purchase even if you don't like two shades.

The last packaging is pretty cute as well, but it's a shame those eye-shadows didn't rise to the challenge.

This retro inspired packaging is seriously too cool Kim! The CD's almost look like the real thing. It's a bummer the quality of the eyeshadows was subpar but at least the packaging is still supercool. It sounds like they really nailed the details of a real boombox.

Just the packing itself will make you want to hoard! They'd be like an instant staple in a makeup kit just because they're so pretty. I hope to see them here in the Philippines as well. :D

Who's idea was it to make this kind of packaging? Definitely eye-catchy and marketable. The shades are so lovely and suits you so beautifully Kim.
Thanks for sharing.

Oh wow!!!! Absolutely love this post - it's amazing and I love the packaging, total flashback and really loving this. It's been a while since something from MAC has made me happy! I don't use their products now since they entered the market in China and started testing on animals which is a real shame... :(

I love the packaging to this collection! And your intro made me so nostalgic lol!! I see some of the same cds I had in my collection Kim! I agree they should have made a vol 2 to the cheek palette!! Those lip colors are all gorgeous on you, I especially like the third one, that purple shade! That’s a shame the shadows are hit and miss, but at least the packaging is cool!
