How To Choose Shirts And Blouses To Fit Your Body Type

Shirts and blouses are a wardrobe staple that most women own. They’re perfect for workwear but they can look great when styled as part of a casual outfit too. However, some people find that they can’t quite get the right look when wearing a blouse or a shirt. In most cases, it’s because they are not considering their body shape when buying shirts and blouses. Everybody is unique, so it requires a bit of experimentation to find the right fit for you, but if you think about your overall body shape and buy items that compliment it, you’ll find it much easier. Here’s how to choose the right blouse or shirt for your body type.

Rectangular-Shaped Figure

The majority of women have some form of rectangular-shaped figure. If your shoulders are roughly the same width as your hips and you don’t go in at the waist that much, you fit into this category. If you have this body shape, you have a bit more freedom to play around with bold colors and patterns that brighten up your outfit. Wearing bold tops that contrast with the bottom half of your outfit creates a more defined waist and accentuates your natural shape.

Apple-Shaped Figure

If you carry most of your weight around your stomach, you are closest to an apple-shaped figure. When you are choosing tops, always steer clear of anything that is too tight-fitting because it won’t be flattering. Instead, look for shirts and blouses that naturally fall away from the body a little and tighten around the hips. In most cases, tops that have a v-neck and buttons work best for people with an apple-shaped figure.

Hourglass Figure

Women that have a well-defined waist and a bust and hips that are roughly the same size have an hourglass figure. Wearing a loose blouse or shirt won’t look bad necessarily, but it does also hide your natural figure, which is a shame. Instead, look for close-fitting blouses that show off your curves.

Pear-Shaped Figure

Anybody that has shoulders that are narrower than their hips usually falls into the pear-shaped or triangle shaped category. Finding blouses and shirts can be very difficult if you have this body shape and you need to be selective, but there are options that will look great on you. Ideally, you want to accentuate the shoulders and draw attention away from the hips and waist. Bold colors and patterns are a great way to do this and generally look amazing on women with a pear-shaped figure.

Failing to understand your body type is one of the biggest fashion mistakes you can make. Your body shape has a big impact on how clothes sit when you are wearing them, and this is more apparent with light items, like blouses and shirts. But if you can work out what type of body shape you have and follow these simple guidelines, you will be able to pick out the perfect shirts and blouses.
