Why You Need To Reward Yourself For Reaching Your Goals

No matter what the reason for your goals, especially if it is lifestyle-related such as improving your health and fitness, it’s important to reward yourself with each goal you achieve. Being able to do this in small ways can help you continue on that journey. It’s not the same as self-care but you could still use some of the ways you practice self-care as a way of rewarding yourself.

Understanding why you should reward yourself on this journey is important. Rewarding yourself increases your dopamine levels. This then increases your motivation and helps you continue on your journey of reaching your goals. So you see it’s not just about celebrating but about motivating too! Although both are extremely important especially in today’s climate when mental health issues are on the rise.

So what type of rewards can you make use of to ensure you continue on your journey of reaching your goals but don’t want to either break the bank or damage your progress? Below there are some examples of small rewards to help you choose.

  • Treat yourself to a restaurant meal. While you may have to pay for restaurant-quality food, going to a restaurant that offers rewards means you can save up your rewards and use them for another trip to a restaurant.   • Watch several episodes of your favorite TV show, guilt-free. We often are rushing about and don’t get time to spend watching a program or indeed while we are watching something thinking we should be doing something more productive! Permit yourself to take the time as a reward for reaching your goal.
  • Have a long soak in a bubble bath. Light candles, play your favorite music, and take the time to relax. If there is family around, tell them you are taking this time for yourself and you don’t wish to be disturbed.
  • Buy yourself a treat. This can be anything from a new candle, make-up, or clothing. The options are endless so think of something you’ve had your eye on for some time and purchase it when you achieve your goal.
  • Treat yourself to a manicure or pedicure. Having someone do your nails is a great treat. You could make it a regular occurrence each time your reach a goal. This is a great way of pampering yourself.
  • Watch the sunrise or sunset. If you don’t much money to spend then choosing to make the most of nature is a great way of treating yourself. Don’t restrict it to the sunrise or sunset though. You could go for a walk in a forest or you could walk along a beach. Find out what is on your doorstep and make use of it. It’s a great way of reenergizing too.

Not all of the above items will appeal to you, maybe one or two might, however the idea is to come up with a list of things that you do like and which would feel like a reward. Get creative and come up with your own personal list and each time you reach your goal you can tick one more off the list. These rewards will keep you on the path of achieving your goals and keep you moving forward.
